I used a eMac a lot in elementary school and loved it. begged my parents for a mac but they said no since my dad hated them and was a linux user at the time. I used XP at home but I liked mac os more but really I just played RuneScape on it and never did anything else.

I had to use a mac while I was working in a biomedical research lab during uni. You get used to it, but I found it extremely annoying to use. I hate the dock instead of a taskbar and not really being able to see what you have open. I hate how the system tries everything it can to stop you from just browsing the file system like a normal OS. I hate how there are no options to snap things to the left/right/top for multitasking (it's no wonder macfags always have random shit scattered across their virtual desktops, because of absent/shit-tier snap/taskbar functionality)

Click top bar, select Go, hold Option, select Library.

I used OSX exclusively for about half a year, 2015/16. It's still garbage.
I used both a brand new 15" macbook pro and a hackintosh that I built, so I got to experience both the out-of-box experience and the nitty-gritty of setting up a hackintosh (meaning I dove WAY deeper into OSX than 99.99999% of users ever will and holy shit; not worth it, just spend the extra money and buy a real mac if you really want OSX, every single Linux distro I've ever set up was easier, and I'm including the dark ages when Red Hat was a still consumer desktop distro back in '99).
Window management is still garbage compared to pretty much any OS ever, although vastly improved since the last time I played with OSX 4-6 years prior (one of my frequent lab partners in school had a MBP). Likewise Finder is still junk, but still noticeably better.
I DO like the integration (i.e. Continuity) between OSX/IOS devices though.

I used macOS for about a year and a half.
Neither love nor hate, it had cool things. I liked gestures and some of the keyboard shortcuts. Some stuff literally just worked and Pages was neat for some stupid tutorials I made back in the day full of images.
However it was also pretty limited in the way of having to purchase software to do songs stuff like write on ntfs and for games and some fun it's also garbage compared to even linux. It's a really good laptop OS in my opinion, that's it.

I used a air for two months, then gave it away after buying a better laptop. It's slow, the top menu is just dumb and it's really nothing special at all. The os is ok like Ubuntu is ok but not very good. Missing keys and just how slow and in configurable it is was my biggest issue. It was just a laptop, not a very good one. Like a hp stream which a friend has, it works but it's just ok. Like that, nothing special.

I found an old iMac that was just going to be recycled and put linux in it and use it right now while I wait to save up for a new pc after my old one died. It does the basic things such as the shitposting and some less demanding games fine. I don't use OSX but I did keep it in there as a fallback.

Using a Macbook Air. Quick, battery lasts entire day, UI feels lite and very responsive. Doesn't get warm with normal app usage (browser, pages/numbers, mail).
It is a joy to use, especially compared to my friends windows laptop which lasts 2 hours tops on battery, gets hot with fan going crazy without running any apps and the touchpad randomly drops contact and freezes for a moment.

Used a Mac exclusively as my main computer from 2006 to 2011. An Intel iMac, forget the exact specs. Really nice machine, enjoyed the OS, but I bought shit RAM that wasn't Apple approved so I had to remove it to install large programs like Photoshop.
Really comfy computer, sometimes I miss it. My ex ended up smashing the display while cleaning out the desk it was on, pulling out the drawers one by one until they were all out and the desk tipped and the iMac screen smashed. Wasn't economical to fix, so I formatted it squinting through the broken screen and sold it to some creepy guy who said he fixes them for schools.
Fast forward to 2012, broke up with that girl and was broke, but got some welfare. Used that welfare to buy a shitty AMD laptop, installed Ubuntu and to my surprise everything Just Werked. Ended up getting my current desktop in 2013, installed various Linux distributions, FreeBSD, etc. Eventually installed Windows for games and used that for a while, but I just removed the Windows partition and now exclusively run Ubuntu 19.04, with the laptop (now with a broken keyboard) acting as a server running Ubuntu 18.04.2.

I used OS X as my main OS for something like six years after getting a bit burned with Vista. I liked it well enough, but when my HDD died I was thoroughly put off buying another Mac ever by the way the Apple Store wanted to handle it. They wouldn't even quote me a price over the phone for replacing a fucking HDD, they required me to bring the computer in and have them "diagnose" it for a fee first. I got it fixed somewhere else and eventually jumped ship back to Windows 7.

Desktops are easy as long as all your hardware is natively supported. Once you get the Clover USB made it's really simple to do what's called a vanilla install, which means there's no tinkering or patching. I'm on a used Dell Optiplex right now and the only thing that didn't work out of the box was audio, and the fix was dragging and dropping a kext file into the Clover folder in the EFI partition and rebooting.
Laptops require a lot more tinkering and patching. WLAN/Bluetooth never works, so be prepared to buy a USB adapter for that. There are all kinds of brightness and sleep issues to iron out. Power management is a bitch to get right.
I have a guide I made for both my hackintoshes (Optiplex 790 and ThinkPad X230) that you may find useful: hackintosh.neocities.org And do note that the EFI folder will work the same on any xx30 series ThinkPads with the same Intel graphics. I tested it on a friend's T430.
You need to access the BIOS settings to hackintosh so you can disable and enable certain things like EFI/CSM, serial ports, AHCI, etc. So keep that in mind.

I used a Mac for almost a year in 2013 when my netbook broke. It was an older ppc model and I was tech illiterate, but when I look back, I can appreciate it in more ways than I did then. Shame Apple has fucked up their shit nowadays. I had to fix my mother's iMac that's running the Sierra or whatev it's called and it was the most inane experience I've ever had.
