>Bought a wifi adapter
>Had to compile and install a driver for it

Install ubuntu

Jow Forums told me it's not good though

I'll bite
Make and model of the adapter.

tp-link archer t4u v3 and also alfa awus036neh not working either

Get a computer with WiFi card that’s supported retard.

Distro?

Ah yes the other power of Linux where you get to blame someone for their hardware purchase

fedora30

Stop betatesting NSAware for free
/thread

>broadcom makes chip and doesn't give documentation to public
>OEM buys chip puts chip on adapter board and doesn't give drivers source to customers
>both give microsoft 1st party support so microsoft literally doesn't have to do anything

>linux guys have to take that blob from windows and wrap it in a module so it can interact with the kernel
>no one on MAC/Hackintosh/haiku/*BSDs/RedoxOS/ReactOS/FreeDOS/ect can port the hardware to their OS because they can't make a driver to interact with the firmware without the source-code
>meanwhile intel + qualcomm provide firmware free or upstreamed firmware that can be loaded into the ROM at boot without kernel modules blobs.
>they can actually be ported to all the other above mentioned OS's ignoring linux itself.

LEL LINUX SUCKS AM I RIGHT MAH DUDE? :^)

>manufacturer makes it difficult or impossible for anyone else to make drivers
>b-but muh linux
just buy any good intel and it will werk. even netgear and broadcom shits are mostly fixed

>Provides binary blobs for peripherals by default like windows
>LOL WHAT ARE U TALKING ABOUT FREETARD IT WORKS ON LINUX ALREADY

OOOOOOF

linux whiteknight out of the woodwork

wow thanks Jow Forums great help

>mfw Intel wifi, just werks on Ubutnu works with installing a deb on Debian
>3:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6235 (rev 24)

>Jow Forums told me it's not good though

I bought a cheap 6 dollar 3070 Ralink adapter off ebay and even it works on linux because the developer mainlined the fucking drivers in the kernel and it literally just fucking works.

worked on my Dell, in fact I have two wireless cards and both work as expected

Stop using Debian.

Not using debian

If you buy unsupported hardware for a Windows computer or for a MacOS computer, who is to blame? The retarded consumer or the operating system for simply not supporting it? There a plenty of computers which will support Linux OTB and there are plenty of resources for finding out which shit is compatible.

>be me 4 years ago
>buy wifi adapter
>plug into Linux powered laptop
>works fine (plug n play)
>my $20 adapter still works because I googled "Linux compatible wifi adapter"

Brainlet

I did too but kernel updates break shit sometimes amazingly

I just looked for an adapter with an Atheros chipset and it Just Werked, even on Debian.

Restart your computer retard

did that already obiviously

You fuckin moron

meaning it was actually a binery blob in a kernel module that broke because the OEM didn't update their blob for a newer kernel.

AKA it wasn't upstreamed.
