What's the point of having 500+ FPS when most people only have 144Hz monitors (or at best 200/240Hz) ? I know it reduces input lag but isn't 500 FPS overkill ?

It used to speed up load times to have like 999 FPS in loading screens I believe.
Most people set source games to 241 when 120hz was the norm. Twice the refresh rate +1 for some performance reason. Now people seem to recommend 300 FPS max.

Where's the lie though? If it's designed to handle that temp and doesn't crash then it's fine. Overheat isn't a subjective term. My i5 ThinkPad gets close to that (ffmpeg) and is still kicking. Realistically, any enthusiast will get close to the max temp range anyway.
