Just dont get a high energy dog that requires exercise. Also make sure you train it well. No half ass shit

dogs are great. but they are a HUGE commitment. you have to realize they aren't toys you can put away when you're bored with them. they are living breathing creatures. INNOCENT creatures with needs they will depend on YOU to meet. eating balanced meals, staying clean, going to the bathroom on a regular schedule, cleaning up accidents inside the house*, keeping them mentally stimulated to help avoid loneliness/depression, going to the doctor to get checked and receive regular scheduled vaccinations, getting their nails clipped and fur trimmed regularly, obedience training, puppy proofing your home, etc etc. Dogs are wonderful creatures but you should not even attempt ownership unless you are 100% committed.

I mean if you have anxiety a dog or cat really helps but it's not necessary outside of that
but pretty much

I don't see the point of them if you're just going to have it for emotional support. You'd be better served to fix the source of your mental impairment. You'll probably just end up pissing off everyone around you when the dog inevitably misbehaves due to lack of stimulation, alienating you further from your peers.

If you have to ask, the answer (for you) is NO.

This guy gets it!

if you are serious about your dog, it will give you unconditional (platonic, i insist) love.
in return you'll get a new rhythm to your life.
but don't let it wait for you all day long, if you are employed and can't have it with you at work

Having other people in your home or a friend/neighbor you can trust the dog to while you are away is pretty much mandatory if you work full time hours.

that's not always true. i can imagine a lot of people would really want to get a dog for some time and then regret getting one after a month or so.
it's important to question weather you should get one and it's not indicative of weather you will fail after some time if you decide to do it in my opinion

Dogs are the niggers of pets. They bark at everyone, they attack people, they shit everywhere, and nobody likes them except idiots who think they're "cute".
If you must get a pet, make it a fucking cat.

No and no.
If you want your house to stink like a dog then get a dog (or cat if you like cat piss)

If you just want a furry companion without the fuss then a cat is the right choice. Cats just need food, water, a place to shit and if they are an inside cat then toys to make them not bored.

Mine generally spend their time sleeping on my lap.

i don't feel like cats love their owners
they just want to survive themselves, they don't care about others

>I want to be responsible for a highly intelligent and empathetic living being that requires attention and companionship
>but it might be bored because I plan to spend a lot of my time infront of my computer wearing programming socks instead of caring for it

Get a cat or a plant you fucking retard. Every living thing requires love and attention but you dont deserve a dog with your way of thinking.

>I want muh pet to looooove me btw I watch mlp and masturbate exclusively to gay furry porn

Yes, German Shepherds are good friends, they fuck good too. Replaces your faggoty gay trap programmer gamer girl BF discord tranny shit.

> wearing programming socks and not caring for it
who said i will do either?

imagine projecting so much you don't even realise

If you like cats and don't care about them being dicks, get one. They are low maintenance and won't bark or destroy your house when bored.

I used to think that before getting a cat due some circumstances, but they really like you, they just don't show all the time. My cat for example comes to my bad every night, licks my arm and cuddles with me. And sometimes when I'm using the computer, it comes around purring and sits on my lap or next to my mousepad, it's cute as fuck.

If you're getting a dog, at least don't get a puppy and support the breeding industry. Get an old, sick, ugly doc from a shelter and make his last days better. That way you can also see what it's like to own a dog without investing +10 years and a shitton of money.

Don't get a dog if you aren't sure it's for you. I know a few people personally who bought dogs because they were cute but as soon as the novelty wore off they started neglecting it or just outright got rid of it at the shelter. Dogs need a lot of care, a lot of love and if you're a sedentary computer all day kinda guy a dog is just going to end up as an annoyance you hate to take care of.

Oh, boy! I sure love offtopic threads!

>he doesn’t have a husky gf
SEETHING

I found a stray one that came to my house
>bought dogs because they were cute
I'm don't care about how much cute it is, i want it for emotional support because I'm alone most of the time. I really don't think it will end up us an annoyance to me i just think I'm maybe happy enough as i am right now

Dogs want to be with you. If you work from home, that's great. Perfect excuse to go for walks and so on. Even if you're working they feel a lot of comfort from just sitting by your side.

If you have a regular job where you need to go to work every day and you live alone, please do not get a dog. Dogs have been bred so that they basically feel anxiety if their favorite people are not with them. They also have no real concept of time so it's torturous for them to be left alone every day.

Dogs live for social stuff. That's their raison d'etre. If you can provide that then definitely get a dog. If not then definitely do not.

Also adopt, don't buy. It's cheaper and you're making a lonely dog happy.

Nice, you're helping out dogbros. Good human.

>I'm thinking i should go for it but maybe it will get bored since i spend a lot of time doing Jow Forums stuff

Man I love dogs, but the topic of having an office pet makes me raging fucking mad.
My aunt is the CFO of the company, and she put forth the idea of having an office pet. One of the options was a small dog... I asked who would take care of it after work hours? Naturally, the answer was: (You)

I make minimum wage as a dev and she knows this because she pays me. I can't afford a pet like this - the most I can handle is a goldfish or a plant (I suggested both). I live in a shithole in the city where there's not much grass around either, so where am I gonna train it to shit and piss? Not to mention my apartment is so tiny that it would be cruel to try to house a pet here, there's no room for it to run around. FUCK. THIS.

cat's can be affectionate too. they're just assholes most of the time though.

tell her you're allergic.

>Even if you're working they feel a lot of comfort from just sitting by your side.
i work as much as i can and that's why i feel it might get bored. i will pet it once in a while and i will love to have it besides me or in my lap but i won't be playing with it all the time.
Also i have a lab with lot's dangerous instruments...
>Dogs live for social stuff.
that's a problem, I'm not very social.

yeah I probably should adopt it, i know of a family that can provide it a much better home

>should
shouldn't
typo

I have two dogs in the old country. I love dogs. I have watched her two dogs while she was away on vacation.
I don't want to be dishonest and immature, and make up excuses. I want her to realize how selfish the whole idea is ("I get to enjoy a happy dog in the office, while having none of the responsibilities associated with raising a pet"). She was pretty taken aback when I said it would be cruel for me to have a pet in my current home (tiny-ass apartment), and that I would be fine taking care of it -some- weekends, but not every day.

Your aunt sounds like a stupid cold bitch.
Also it's better to lie in most scenarios to not deal with other people's shit. Pity you can't do that. Maybe look for other people interested in taking care of it? But I think it will only buy you some time.

I was a dog person growing up, and I have a kitty now and consider myself a cat person. My girlfriend has 3 dogs and horses.

dogs:
>very bright, skippy, friendly kind of love
>unconditional affection
>easier to train
>walks and playtime non optional
cats:
>more intelligent, has the same emotional range as a person
>just like a normal person, won't always want to be around you, but will most definitely enjoy time with you
>can't really train but comes with some behavior out of the box that you can adapt your living style to
>will largely entertain themselves, but a little bit of playtime is till non-optional
we've been trying to leash-train her but that shit's hard and she hates it lol

You should get a cat. They don't give much of a fuck if you ignore them, but can still be petty good company. Dogs will get depressed if you don't give them enough attention.

also make sure to get an air purifier for the hair and dandruff and up your cable management game so they don't fuck with it

>technology

Lmao, what kind of shitty dogs did you grow up around?

Nah, I think the whole idea was put on hold after I said I wouldn't be taking care of the dog full-time. I suggested getting some fish for the office (I honestly, really would enjoy taking care of them plus we can get some low maintenance one). No one wanted a fish for some fucking reason. I suggested a bonsai tree too, that could be cool.

If the topic comes up again, I'm standing my ground don't worry.

Yup, this. I pulled my cat out of the winter and he barely weighed anything. He was scared as fuck for the first week, but now he spends all of his time in the same room as me. Always sleeps on my feet. Cats are often a little distant, but they tend to like people who treat them well.

>user I'm really sorry to say it
>You're creating a toxic environment for your coworkers
>I know we're family but I cannot accept your behavior
>Get your things you're getting fired

cute crossbreed!

no, buy a cactus

and just one day he will maul you too

Cats are less obvious about their love, my cats will follow me or sit on my lap or look at me and wink and purr.

OP HERE,
They 'stray' dog that came to my house apparently had owners.I gave it food water and stuff to play with and he did all morning, then after sleeping a bit he started wondering around and he didn't return for some time, someone went searching for it who knew me and he said he found it with his owners and they wouldn't give him.
Now i don't know how well the owners treat him since he came all the way here and he looked like he had a lot of fun and wasn't concerned that he lost them but nothing i can really do

Whether, user

What the fuck she sounds retarded

doesn't look it due to the small head but she's 5/8 amstaff.
*she
i put my hand in her mouth some times and try to force her to bite. she always refuses.

I know what you mean. My dog is a staffordshire bull terrier collie croos but most people don't realise due to his small head.

Too much maintenance, basically like a kid.

>Cats
>won't destroy your house when bored
