>Implying corporations wouldn't be the cause of the apocalypse

text-only version of wikipedia is 80gb

Why is everything modern so bloated? Encarta fit on a 500MB cd

Wikipedia became shit tho

Higher quality graphics == more disk space required.

This.

Perhaps when it comes to political articles, but technical articles are OK.

>datasets
I dare you, only books that somewhat survived after centuries are clay cuneiform tablets

Old Wikipedia

The meme folders of countless anons worldwide. 1.4GB right here.

mega?

I hope you like 500GB of ebooks

Attached: 1461785449362.jpg (3001x2251, 233K)

fuck, i miss encarta's mind maze. it's the single greatest game microsoft ever made

What the fuck happened to the original article?

Rumor has NSA is fighting an informational war, and Wikipedia is a battleground.

How do I purge the metadata from my memes?

Exiftool recursively

wiki is absolute shit for anything that could be even slightly tied to politics/events

>nobody gives a shit about download managers
Sounds about right to me.

It's good for tracking sports. It covers way more things than Encarta

More likely stuff like this.

Sliderules, compasses, laminated datasheets, mechanical weighing scales.

Attached: serveimage.jpg (900x710, 164K)

encarta has like 1/20 of the information that wiki has.

encarta had less information than an encyclopedia set from the 90s.

you would fail rebuilding society with encarta. you fail in life.

Do you guys have a copy of wikipedia from about 5 years ago or more?

>unsourced, tangential, niche items
It's ok goy, we wouldn't want you to think too much about stuff you may not understand.

Quality over quantity. There's probably more "information," measured as disk space, on Wikipedia about transgenderism than all of Encarta.

Wikipedia has the advantage in both.

At first I didnt understood the sarcasm and legit made me angry. Congrats.

What's the advantage of sixty gigs on literal whos, lists of episodes of forgotten TV shows, and critical appraisals of novelty songs?

But this iisn't really a problem, since a single SD card can fit this with no trouble.

Cultural knowledge is useful. Some people are obsessed with random musicians from hundreds of years ago or fashion from the 1920s, why not give them more information?

Also, consider this particularly relevant article that wouldn't be found in Encarta:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system)

The fact it even crossed your mind that I wasn't being sarcastic means we're at the end of times.

Yep

what the fuck

I'll share my list.

1. Source based GNU/Linux distro I can reinstall offline.
2. Source code of every program I need in an offline repository.
3. Lots and lots of ebooks, including but not limited to magazines, comics, novels and artbooks.
4. Retro games, even if I dot play is good to store it for cultural and historical purposes. Of course I need the accompanying emulator, in source code to reinstall it.
5. Speaking of emulation, thanks to WINE and DOSbox I can store digital encyclopedias like Encarta, DK Eyewitness, McGraw-Hill, Britannica, etc.
6. DOS freeware that can be conveniently run in DOSbox or FreeDOS. May not be open source but some of those were very nice and have no later contender.
7. USENET archives like archive.org/details/utzoo-wiseman-usenet-archive
8. Any pasta I can find from Jow Forums and other imageboards.
9. Lots and lost of films, Tv shows, music, series and radio shows.

Still need other stuff like a copy of Geocities and an older copy of Wikipedia.

This user has his priorities straight.

>why is the encyclopedia with more information so bloated?
Why are bloat obsessed zoomers so braindead? Encarta was a fucking toy, not a serious academic resource.

>a bunch of kike media, shitty old le quirky retro nostalgia xD and superficial skimming material
Why bother saving the sources when you clearly intend to do nothing but consume?

Thanks bro. I tested my setup without Internet and installing and updating works as intended, would recommend.

no one > that they wouldn't be dumb dumb

Dont forget :
The Greatest Story Never Told
Europa The Last Battle

There needs to be an updated version of mindmaze

Implying wikipedia is an academic resource.

Sadpanda backup

Digital distribution, there is no longer a financial incentive to get it to fit on the least amount of physical media possible and they don't have to test and optimize before release anymore because they can just send a patch and digital distribution gives excessively easy access so most people don't care now

plan 9 so we can get off to a good start

I have several hundred TBs backed up several times across DVD, blu-ray, M-disc DVD, M-disc blu-ray, Optical Disc Archive cartridges, and some LTO tape. Over a PB when you take into consideration everything is backed up several times

Attached: 1535625111528.jpg (1080x1052, 263K)

>Lots and lots of ebooks, including but not limited to magazines, comics, novels and artbooks.
Or you could just have physical copies that don't rely on a machine, electricity, or internet connection.

Open machinery designs like reprap, OSE CEB press, transistor radios, DIY clocks etc. Not a proper apocalypse if everyone still knows how to build and maintain every single thing, and I'd rather live in the 70s than the fuckin stone age.

neither Encarta nor Wikipedia have metallurgy methods or methods for extracting metals from the earth.
Not gonna make it.

Attached: 1512534566517.jpg (640x512, 40K)

Rebuilding? Good luck. Our society has nearly completely demolished the natural ecosystem, driven the prey our ancestors hunted extinct, killed off natural pollinators, and genetically modified the crops to require fertilizers and pesticides produced through complex means which can't be utilized without the abundant excess energy provides by fossil fuels, which we've nearly depleted. We fucked it up. We fucked it up scarily bad.

The only thing that can save humanity is geothermal energy on a massive scale or a shitload of nuclear power plants. Cold Fusion would sure be nice right about now.

survivorlibrary.com/library-download

Really? I'm going to download that and put it on an e-ink reader or something for when I'm backpacking

Based.

bump for this

What about porn?

Attached: 1474495834663.jpg (600x720, 79K)

overrated unless is cute pics

yea we really want future people studying pozzed articles by pozzed "contributers" on pozzed wikipedia.

i seriously doubt any kids on this site know what a sliderule is or how to use one. im in my 30s and i BARELY have experience with them.

Electrical engineer here, I'll be pretty useless after the apocalypse so can someone just archive a shitload of hentai for me?

>yes, I live without pr0n, how can you tell

Attached: Clint Walker1.jpg (676x720, 94K)

I've never actually seen one, but they seem like the only apocalypse-proof form of computer.

Mercury thermometers and barometers, weathervanes, sundials, astrolabes, mechanical clocks. Rulers, protractors, drawing compasses. It's pretty grim without electricity.

>there will be no electricity after an apocalypse

Attached: crank generator.jpg (960x520, 57K)

Is '95 pretty based still?
Did wikipedia kill payed encyclopedias in us? I hope not...

Friendly reminder for all data hoarders

how will you power all these electronics?

Play MindMaze

Attached: raf750x1000075tfafafa_ca443f4786-u1.jpg (750x1000, 78K)

Electronic devices are not all the same. and there is plenty of sources to get power from. So my plan is like this:

1. Discard power hungry desktop computers altogether. Replace with a power savvy SBC, they can do 4K video now. Also have an spare laptop for x86 applications.
2. Dont use power hungry applications at all. Live in simplicity and minimalism, minimalists might finally prove right.
3. Underclock your computers. They may live longer and will definitely consume less power.

Can say I am definitely paying less money on my bills already.

Now for power generation how much are you willing to pay? A diesel generator? Solar? I am all in to spend whatever if it comes with returns in at least an intermediate time, like solar.

Definitely crank generators like it was mentioned and human powered devices like a mechanically powered lamps and a gibson girl are a must. If you play it right it might be all you need to power your computers, maybe.

>nelson mandela front and center
Yes the murdering terrorist who ruined south africa. Why do people try to push the narative that he was the good guym

fuck off, we are having a good conversation for you to ruin yet another board Jow Forums

>t. nelson mandela

You stormfags always shitting threads like this makes me realize you must have something related to CIAniggers.

Did you came to put us all on a list or something?

what if its an emp?
(also nukes release an emp)

>documentation of everything in existence
I don't know, why is the universe so "bloated"

>rebuilding society with a M$ product

Yeah... no

And how exactly are your serveral hundred TBs of futa porn gonna help rebuliding society?

>implying beeing a murdering terrorist is a bad thing

At least use some substantial critique like "he's a nignog"..

Effing THIS.

Good luck with your dead metal boxes.
I have the most important stuff on BOOKS (google it, millenials).

Whlie you where shitposting on Jow Forums, I was lurking on /diy/, writing everything on PAPER. While you where memeing about the latest JS framework I was a silent shadow in the dark. Lurking. Waiting. Waiting for day x.

Go on, enjoy your machine learning while you still can. When the singularity awakens in 2020 there won't be any programming anymore.

We don't have much time left.
Do you even Kratky?

Exiftool except pdfs and epubs

Debian & all repositories including non-free on external HD and DVDs. Basically a new set of backups are made yearly and labeled.
>"But what about my windows"
Basically you will run into issues installing windows on a new or older PC even with cracks to activation due to drivers. Best way to get around this is Linux as the main OS, load VM software from the saved repositories and use that to load a windows environment with all drivers working perfect. Now you can salvage any computer or laptop and work just fine.

Do they have persistent data?

It’s still far closer to being one than some cheap shovelware that pretty much just existed to help sell CD-ROM drives.

Now I hope for the apocalypse

Keep books, use small, reliable embedded systems and older PDAs for what little computing you may find use for. You’re not going to need powerful hardware when you’re fighting to survive.

I remember listening to the grandmaster flash sample over and over again on this. It wasn't very educational.

>His SBC doesn't have its own tinfoil hat

everything to maintain moores law, or im gonna kms

Any cultural or how-to knowledge would be better kept on paper that won't waste electricity or be at risk of randomly shitting itself in some unrecoverable way at a moment's notice. For any computing I would stick to simple, rugged and, most importantly, readily programmable small computers like pic related that I can load with helpful routines as I need them. Such technology would be more resistant to radiation and hopefully harsher weather conditions as well with proper handling.

You'd be highly useful considering the vast amount of gear you could repair/repurpose. "Apocalypse" doesn't mean everything is physically destroyed. Remember amateur radio was first radio...

Something with agriculture, Math(all of it), Quantum phsyics, Magick, Physics, Eastern traditional Medicine, Chemistry, Biology, Philosophy, Art, Music, Mechanical gadgets(Levers, gears and the such), Modern combustion engines, Electrical and electronics, Programming languages, Dictionary and Grammar for every language and Translations, Every religion that you can grab information on no matter how dead, Miss Kobayashi Dragon Maid.
Yep, those are the essentials. Some may wonder why the Magick? I say, why not. Imagination never hurt anyone. Plus it'd be good baby sitter for the kids while you're trying to rebuild a electrical generator or doing some farm work.

>And how exactly are your serveral hundred TBs of futa porn gonna help rebuliding society?
Even ancient high civilizations had futa porn. It seems to play an integral role.
