it's inconsistent and noisy, the contrast between things is offputting... i dont know. im no designer, but i can speak as a user that it could definitely be improved

This has potential but it needs to follow the original design a little more closely. For example, I would example hovering over a >>postnumber to give me a preview of that post.
I also think there's way too much padding around the content, you can only fit 5 or so comments on the screen at once.

I'm sick of having to open another browser window to copy-paste the link into just to be able to post because jewgle has an aneurysm over Pale Moon with ublock and umatrix installed. Why don't you use 4chanx with the noscript captcha? + Oneechan for theming.
(Protip: disable the spoof referer header on uMatrix for Jow Forums so the captcha will work.)

Makes no sense for it to be a centrally hosted front end, you're better off just developing a css/greasemonkey script to make regular Jow Forums look like that.
If you really want to have a separate frontend, you're MUCH better off making it a desktop application so that the user doesnt have to connect to the arbitrary middleman domain to look at Jow Forums.
