Please don't let her taint Jow Forums too! Thanks.

There's a juicy looking T470 going very cheap online but it is "BIOS locked"
What problems would I run into if I pick it up?
I'm trying to get a T470/T480 on the cheap for regular business/university activity.

Tyrone give it back

>thinking of buying an x1 carbon gen 2 thinkpad
>would i be able to replace it with an x1 gen 1 keyboard?
>could i add something like a Thunderboilt 3 eGPU to it to transform it into the likes of a 1050ti etc.

So should i get a fully specced x1c6/7 or a modded x230 and buy a new machine in a year?

Attached: 1515387102536.jpg (642x960, 88K)

How noticeable is an i5 vs i7 for an X220? I can only find X220's with i5 in my country and I wonder if I should just buy one or wait for an i7 to come up

Just replace it

X60t cutest thinkpad

Attached: 2019-07-29-225507_1024x768_scrot.png (1024x768, 766K)

the difference is next to none, juts get an X230 and replace the keyboard. HD3000 is useless nowadays

fake, the cutest is x200 with jp keyboard.
x60 NON tablet is still cute tho.

The screen on my non tablet makes me wanna kill myself more than the fact that it lacks wacom

just ordered r400! is it compatible with libreboot? seems like it's just a beefier version of t400. still, wouldn't be a huge loss if it wasn't.

Wrong.

Attached: thinktiny.jpg (1002x849, 226K)

is the x60t still useful as a tablet computer? and can the tablet version be librebooted?

How hard is it to put an IPS panel into my T420? And what CPU is a good upgrade?

I got my x220 in the mail today and it doesn't fucking charge. It came with linux mint installed and it says that it is charging but it doesn't actually ever gain anything. It has also been depleted to 0% so it shuts off the instant it is unplugged. I checked the battery life and it's at 87% so it probably isn't a shit battery. Any advice?

>libreboot
shitware made by a mentally unstable person who turned to official page into their personal blog to rant about their political views. As you can see in my screenshot i am running coreboot, Libreboot is a fork of an old buggy as fuck coreboot release. So yes.
>Is it useful
yep, i love it. absolutely awesome FFS screen and form factor

looks like veronica belmont

whoa whoa shit i didn't know about any of that baggage lol, i just saw in the OP about only certain models being librebootable and assumed it was slightly challenging and fun to do
so it's compatible with coreboot, and coreboot is better?

Attached: 645684.jpg (512x481, 27K)

is intel 3000 graphics good for dreamcast emulation

ebay.co.uk/itm/322036489063
X230. £88 after the 20% discount. Seems like a good deal, but what sort of condition can I expect for something that is 'Grade 2'? I plan to replace the keyboard and palmrest, but I don't want the lid to have obvious cosmetic marks (besides a few scratches here and there).

X60/t/s/T60/p/macbook1,1/2,1 are the easiest, You run two flashrom commands form a shell. Hell even my grandma could do it.
Coreboot is a better option for a number of reasons:
-More up to date: Bugfixes for machines constantly being rolled out
-Doesn't limit your freedoms:
-You can run GNU/Linux, Windows, any OS that you want
-You can include blobs like microcode which fix internal bugs and allow some cpus to work at all in some boards
-You can use vgaroms so that windows video drivers don't shit themselves when booting in legacy mode
-You can use UEFI, which is a pain to get working on libreboot
-Much higher number of mainboards supported
-Much larger developer base

Good deal, grade 2 should be:"not new used daily, not ran over by a truck"

my dream is a thinkpad workstation with touchscreen/pen support combined with a decent GPU

like a P52 with Quadro M2200

neat, i'll fuck around with it next time i see a cheap x60t in my area, thx for the info senpai

should I stop using it

yall know how to disable the keyboard locking feature that keeps from mashing keys? I know you can disable the beeping.

talking about t430 specifically forgot to mention bc retarded

using factory BIOS on T60
happy

why yes I do use an x390 with 16gb memory and an i7.

Just got back from my first day at my new job. Utterly relieved they gave me a ThinkPad without even asking me for a preference. Left is my personal T440p, right is the new work T480.

user if you a 29+ battery it's problaby dead because those batterys are like 10 years old buy a new 44+ 9 cell battery

I might just be retarded but i used
>upower -i `upower -e | grep 'BAT'`
to check the capacity of the battery and it seemed fine. It is a 29+ battery but I guess they could have memed me by saying '87%' original capacity when it doesn't actually mean anything.

Got this off craigslist for $80 freedom dollars. its the Dell Latitude E5440 with the i7 4600u and Nvidia 720M.... oddly I cant upgrade the nvidia driver and its stuck on the 389.08 because the newer driver "is not compatible" with my windows software. I think im gonna dumo Linux on it soon though.

You need 425.31, it's the last driver for the 7xxm gpus.

Wont install.... i tried it already

IS INTEL HD 3000 GRAPHICS GOOD ENOUGH FOR DREAMCAST EMULATION

DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU'RE PLAYING.
JSR HAS MOMENTS OF SLOWDOWN, BUT I HAVEN'T RAN INTO ISSUES WITH SKIES OF ARCADIA.
I'm using Redream, so it might run better on an actually decent emulator.

Can I get a 2019 update from the copy pasta on modding my t60 in something usable, how feasible and expensive it still is? Unfortunately I don't speak chink. Alternatively I'm thinking about slamming a pi4 in it.

What's the newest, smallest model with a clitmouse? I have an X140e that's 6 years old and still going strong, but if I can get into something better for 500 bucks or less I will. 13" or under preferably

thinking about getting a t440p for Python programming and light animation work, was looking into getting a used i5 model and just getting a new FHD display and ram for it, will is suffice or would I be better off looking for a different/newer model?

Attached: D8CRtMS.jpg (374x374, 41K)

help.
my x230 running at 1.2ghz on windows 8.1 while not having battery installied, only using charger
while on arch linux, it got like 2.6-3ghz stable for 15 minutes straight.

also after some power option tweaks on windows, still didn't work.

Attached: index.jpg (238x212, 10K)

Take it to the infirmary.

>Anime
You "be better off" yourself, degenerate.

Similar case over here, got a personal t460p and in my job (got in almost a year ago) they gave me a L380, they're now giving T480, shitty part is they both come with 768p TN screens idk why, little bit depressing desu as my personal t460p comes with an IPS FHD display,

Just got my x230 from ebay today for which I paid 60$. No battery(just ordered one) and the outside is scuffed to hell, but nothing about it is actually broken and everything about it works. I'm pretty satisfied with it.

How much did you pay for that?

>anime bad
do you know where you are

Hi. I have a ThinkPad. I like my ThinkPad.

X200 librebooted trisquel + ssd and more, reporting

I wish I had the drive and energy to libreboot my X200 and X200s. And to add AFFS panels to them, because they're just not tolerable to use with the default panel.

Why the fuck would anyone want to use a 10 year old laptop on purpose?

We aren't all mentally ill like you.

Gentoomen, eurofag here.
I'm looking for a sub 15" notebook (ideally 13", tall aspect ratio) with enough juice to run Visual Studio and Firecucks (muh pajeet forums) for at least 4½ hours on battery (I've found that corresponds to about 1/2 of predicted web surfing time). This laptop will almost never be used on mains, so I've had some issues finding benchmarks that were done only on battery power - which is important because some laptops' performance eats shit when unplugged. When on mains, however, it will be connected via TB3 to an external GPU that will output to external monitor.

Currently my top pick is this T490 notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T490-i7-MX250-Low-Power-FHD-Laptop-Review.421150.0.html

It has the best performance for my use case of all the laptops I've checked. Beefy versions of XPS, Latitude 7390 and Elitebook x360 are also high on my list with a bit less performance (except XPS single core which is trash) but an hour or 2 more battery life. Unfortunately they are a lot more expensive (except XPS which is 100€ cheaper) so I think it's not worth the trade-off.

If anyone has practical experience with that T490 or high iq opinion in general please do chime in.

>tripfag calling others mentally ill

Attached: 1559882341451.png (900x844, 349K)

>not wanting a used and abused thinkpad
what else? do guns scare you?
the only "wear" you shouldn't want are worn out batteries and damaged screens

Exactly what i was thinking too, but i didnt want to give the tranny a (you)

If you're in market for a new thinkpad pick T480/T480s over T490/T490s, the 9th gen is straight up downgrade aside from few screen options and if battery life is a priority I'd recommend T480 with 9 cell option.

Thanks a lot, that looks very promising, I'll look into it. You might have just saved my ass, I thought there were no modern laptops with easily ejectable batteries left.

T480 has some problems but if it's battery life you're looking for you won't be dissapointed.

You are right, I'm reading the review and filling out my excel sheet as I go, and that display in review unit is shit with backlight bleed and abysmal sRGB. I hope there are better display options. That battery life is stupid good though.

Really makes you think

Attached: Online-Trading.jpg (640x480, 179K)

so, OP's models are kinda outdated as shit, which is kinda usual with generals.

so, i have roughly 500 bucks to spend on a thinkpad, has to be new because the guy i am buying for had a bad experience with used laptops

no games or particular needs, an SSD is welcome
what's a good model with a good performance/price ratio?

Attached: file.png (770x433, 341K)

How has the X61 aged?

tfw it was mee...

> Physics student so coding, mathematica, originlab etc.
>lots of typing, will write both my bachelor's and master's thesis on this machine.
>Want something that will last me a long time.
>Weight is important but doesnt need to be super light.
>I'll do an exchange year next year, and there its gonna be my only machine.
>Could spend up to 2000€
I thought about getting an x230, modded with fhd screen and 220 keyboard and corebooting it. Or should i just go with a new model?

I'm using a x220 and it really nice in doing all the basic stuff.
But now i want to play some older games, nothing fancy, but the x220 cant do that good. Is there a cheap alternative? can anyone recommend a laptop with a bit of power to let me play older games?

your attempt at whatever that was didn't even make sense, outsider

So, is x230 still worth buying? Thanks

x230 igpu can be like 50% faster

Define older games. In my book an X220 should be able to deal with those just fine.

Has anyone tried GuixSD on your machines?

well, i was planning on flashing an x230 once i purchase it.
i was going to once i buy one. i've tried it on a VM, though. why do you ask?

Yes. Its a pain in the ass to update.
You need 3 terminal commands to update your system, one to pull latest descriptions, one to update the packages and one to edit the bootloaders config file to update the kernel
Very few packages, i dont even think it has iptables (maybe im wrong)
No tor browser bundle
And you cant run packages designed for other systems. Very bad cross platform support since it has a unique file system
Im using trisquel now.

X230s arent compatible with libreboot
Nsa contributes on coreboot btw

sorry, i didn't realise you/they were specifically talking about libreboot.
i know the NSA and other off-putting organisations contribute to coreboot, but the code is open-source. some amount of auditing obviously goes on before accepting a pull request.

No coreboot is not 100% free, it has non free blobs. Only libreboot is 100% free

why is x230 with 13.3 screen and x220 jp keyboard the cutest thinkpad?

Attached: cutest.jpg (2992x3492, 1.95M)

yes, but the code that the NSA contributes is open-source, no?

then? the part of code people contribute on is open source.

HIYA LEDDIT FUCK OFF LMA0

The rule of thumb with emulation of anything better than N64 is:
Does it have a nonshit GPU?
Intel 3000 is shit-tier.

I just copped a T420 for 900 riksdaler($95) did i do good anons?

i7-2670MQ maybe?

Enjoy your non free nsaboot that doesnt even disable intel ME
