Jow Forums Do you believe that smartphones will ever become obsolete?

If so what will likely be the next big thing?

No, they will be become a standard that everyone just has but it will no longer be a craze, just like a laundry machine or a microwave

How young must one be to ask such a question.

Yes, just like the home computer did.
Something better will come along, like cellphones did.

They are already well on they way to obsolescence.

No, because it's as simple as a device can possibly be while providing a large variety of entertainment, communication, tracking, and navigation functions. A smartphone is at it's core just a touch sensitive piece of glass that fits in your pocket and connects to a network. Those will exist so long as networks and pockets exist.

That's simply because phones have become so ubiquitous that anyone who wants and can afford one has one. We're basically just producing them at replacement rates now.

>anyone who wants and can afford one has one

Just like PCs

smart glasses with wrist-mounted input devices

Except the majority of the population has moved or is moving from PCs to exclusively smartphones and tablets for daily computing. Nobody is moving from smartphones to something else.

Augmented reality.

now you have two batteries, two devices, and don't really replicate all the functions of a smartphone so you still need one of those as well

implants. connect direct to your brain. no middlemen

>don't really replicate all the functions of a smartphone
not currently no, but we're talking about the future you idiot

Attached: 56dxpvnry9901.jpg (638x336, 32K)

It's impossible for smart glasses to provide the same functionality as a smartphone because the screen has to be transparent. Watching a movie or reading a book on a train with one eye while staring at the guy sitting across from you would be utter fucking AIDs.

>moving from PCs to exclusively smartphones and tablets for daily computing

Nobody using a smartphone or tablet is doing any computing. It's not like they are balancing their checkbooks, writing documents, or doing complex analytical calculations. All that the masses want is interactive TV. They go on social media to pretend they are an important star with an imaginary audience to please. Or they just bring up Netflix to stare at an vegetate.

Computers are only useful to people with actual work to do.

Congratulations, you've rephrased exactly what I said in a condensing tone to feel better about your position above the horrible unwashed masses. Feel better?

Based. I hate these faggots who think they're so special and redpilled.

smartphones have already reached their peak

you can get a decent smartphone for $50 if you're smart. The Moto Z2 Force was $100 last year, SD835 and 4GB of ram

Wrong.
My work has actually replaced quite a bit of computing with smartphones and tablets. Scheduling, Billing, Document generation, Data entry, etc.

>next big thing?
ur mum

True, I got my first smartphone in 2011

It was an iPhone 4s. I'm on my second smart phone now, been using an Android with Kit Kat for 4 years. I hope it will last for several more years.

no urs

>If so what will likely be the next big thing?
brain implants

Holograms

AR glasses/contact lenses with gesture controls and speech control.

Your entire house will have an operating system built into it. Things like your car, microwave, refrigerator and smartphone will all be interconnected by the same operating system and will all be able to synchronize with each other.

You'll be able to use your smartphone as a master control.

"Nobody is going to watch movies on a tiny screen" - Some wrong person from 10 years ago. Well guess what retard convenience will win out 100% of the time and nobody is going to carry around and stare at a brick once AR glasses are a thing.

Foldable phones (if that counts) or some sort of holo-meme shit?

why the fuck would I want to sync my car with my microve? and what if I drive a 64 Mustang and use a microwave from 5 years ago? checkmate new-tech fucks

I control your mom with my dick

neural interface huds.

>why the fuck would I want to sync my car with my microve?
>this week, based schizoposter has forgotten what automation is

Computers directly wired into your brain.

It's all about convenience.

It's about listening to Spotify at home and it instantly synchronizes to the exact second once you get in your car.

It's about checking to see if you actually left the stove and lights when you leave the house

It's about getting a notification from your microwave that your dinner is ready when you're in another room.

The point is that your whole house will be connected as one unit and your smartphone will be the master control.

If you use old tech you'll lose your ability to synchronize duh.

Dilate

it has already become a standard.

>watching a movie or reading a book
what the fuck? do you think 99% of people use their smartphones for that? no they use it to browse facebook/twitter/insta, and that's to whom the next generation of ultraportable computer devices is going to be marketed. and smart glasses (that get released) are going to be able to handle those social media networks just fine because they won't exist until they can. you're so out of touch it hurts lmao

They'll be replaced with AR glasses that have little audio outputs at the end of the handles. Those will be replaced with the NeuraLink BrainPhone™

Yeah they will be replaced by a more evolved version of google glass that looks like regular sunglasses where the lenses are full screen AR display and later on this will be replaced by high tech contact lenses but that will be decades from now, probably when we are on our death beds

This but probably with some kind of bone conduction instead of speakers. For privacy or whatever.
Battery tech has to jump forward a bit though. They need to last all day.

fml for being born now and not in thirty years. that said being older and wiser will probably be a benefit through the water wars

I can't wait for the time where "phones" are so advanced they are pretty much implanted as a part of you and if you get hacked the hacker can literally just format your brain or some shit

They are obsolete already. Smartphones are the most useless garbage you can find

Ever hear of market saturation? Smartphones are no longer a growth market. That's why Apple is working on changing direction to increase profits with stabilized sales.

neuralink

phones will just turn to white appliances

I hear you.
We were born literally at the start of the massive tech revolution, which is just in time for us to enjoy the shitty buggy alpha versions of all the awesome technologies that will reach their full potential just moments after we die.
It's depressing.
Take shit like the VR glasses like occullus, like a year after we die Matrix tier VR will probably hit the markets.
Same with real dolls, just as you release your last breath, 100% human like sentient AI waifus will hit the market.
And of course space travel, just as you kick the bucket, flying to the terraformed Mars and space in general will start being like getting on a bus to visit the next town over.
And same goes pretty much for any cool technology today.
And the biggest joke of it all of course, like 30 years after you are dead a pill to stop aging forever will hit the markets.

Fuck i have to stop now before i want to commit suicide too much.

People break glasses and replace them with new styles all the time though. That's the killer market- get everyone using smart glasses and idiots will be replacing them every year.

the next thing will be your brain

this is the only correct answer, yes they will become obsolete. and then humankind will ascend into ultimate degeneracy

Implanted tech.

Neurochips.
>when your neighbor glances in the direction of your property, stealing photons from your airspace and violating your NAP, so you hack his McDonalds™ presents Neurochip, hijacking all of his nerves and setting them on the torment settings, turning time perception down to 0.00001x speed, disabling mobility and planting some Burger King™ presents child pornography without first paying the licensing fee, causing the Burker King™ cyber-dynasty to see him as a thief and dispatch the Apple™ Deathsquads to take care of him once and for all.

Yeah but people still get hyped for new smartphones, whens the last time you heard someone get excite for a microwave?

Neuralink will never catch on

Windows phones were obsolete before they wereon sale.

Soon. But why stop at formatting a brain?
>Millions dead after rogue hacker infects norway population with neurocoin miner
>Send your childhood bully to eternal virtual torment! Think here to find out how!
>Make your girlfriend orgasm for all eternity with this one weird hack!

>be married to a 10/10 qt girl for 15 years
>suddenly find out it was an ugly sweaty neckbeard man this whole time who hacked your senses so you percieved him as a hot grill

this, when you get brain implants, which will be better than that phone and help your brain and even your eyes for example, what's the point to get a smartphone? Of course, we will enter transhumanism at that point.

Holographic phones.
Then probably implants.

Attached: Ghost_in_the_Shell_HEP_01_00.jpg (814x1144, 642K)

>wearables that are fully connected with each other and are almost organically attached to your body like glasses or a watch. Question is what will be the main interface for interaction. Can you plug in to any public interface device provided like wifi kind of stuff or some holo stuff

>Computers are only useful to people with actual work to do.
Attention boys arch user waddling through

Probably in far future where implants or small devices connected to your head will give you virtual reality with all smartphone traits but still there will be probably group of loteks who will use old school devices.

>total recall 3 titty girl.jpg

>will be probably group of loteks who will use old school devices.
>loteks
Already got a term to describe the filthy lotek scum.

Smartphones are exactly the same as PCs, their features might reach the peak, but shit OS, shit apps and incompetent devs make it necessary to produce more and more powerful hardware

>waaah i was born in the most prosperous time in history
kys you ungrateful retard
