I'll go first: I want to update my Intel GPU's driver on Puppy Linux (Xenial).
Help?

why are modern laptops all pure shit that breaks within 2 years, unless you buy a $4000 one?

Good Windows program for opening GIF files?

Long lasting product lines don't move as many units, except with respect to your competition should your units be better. And by the time your laptop starts dying there's something twice as powerful out...and the software has gotten twice as bloated.

enable TearFree in your xorg.conf

My HP Stream 11 ($199 when I got it, mainly because things here are always overpriced) has lasted like 4 years.
It's still alive technically. The only thing that died is its SSD.

anyone familiar with acpid stuff?
I'm trying to make my laptop suspend and then execute i3lock whenever I close my laptop lid, using acpid. Everything should be working fine, I disabled systemd's handling of the
laptop lid,i created the event file and the action file, and it's still not working. The weirdest thing is that when i close the lid, the laptop
suspends, but it skips over the i3lock part. (I've verified that it is using the script by commenting out the pm-suspend line, in which case it
doesn't suspend when the lid is closed.) It's really confusing to me that its handling one part of the script, but disregarding another.

#!/bin/sh

echo "lol"
grep -q close /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID/state
if [ $? = 0 ]; then
i3lock
sudo pm-suspend
fi

(the echo "lol" was just there for testing purposes)

Why is it important to insert a newline at the of a file? There's an option for that in every modern text editor.

Is it possible to recover old ass pictures from an old ass smartphone with a data partition that has been wiped a few times?

Theoretically, yes, but in practice you almost certainly overwrote some of the blocks, and those nudes that girl sent you when you were both 16 are gone and you should be grateful because that's a massive legal infraction if they weren't.

>enable TearFree in your xorg.conf
Alright, that worked better than expected.
Last time I tried to add this file and rebooting, I couldn't reach my desktop. Xorg refused to start until I removed the file, but pic related works.
Thank you very very much user!

What's up with the thinkpad shilling in here?

I want to build a PC strong enough to play realm of the mad god
My last pc handled Crysis well but lagged in realm of the mad god

Durable laptops.
Cheap with good specs.
No planned obsolescence.
Cheap to fix and upgrade.

Literally all other laptops suck.

Can i recover data from a laptop that was encrypted with bitlocker without password or key?

>Return it Jamal
Owner encrypted it without knowing what bitlocker was, im recovering CAD documents only.
I don't even have the laptops in my hands yet, just wondering if its worth it taking this job or if its pointless.

Ryzen 3600, GTX 1660 or better and a SSD done.
Tell us your budget, the game is not really that intensive, just shitty/inefficient.

this is bullshit though, they use cheap plastic to make those and they tend to crack

>Haswell and newer
Yes.
>Sandy bridge and older
No.

is it possible to find DSLR with 1080p 60 fps for less than $300

Attached: u_10155818.jpg (1000x887, 62K)

How do you know that's the same laptop at the end
How do you know he didn't just record it working first then edit that as the end of the video

>what is encryption

I'm growing increasingly angry while using Windows 10, it's utter shit, and I'm one shitty experience away from just going crazy and becoming a hermit, abandoning my family and all technology.

Question is, is there any way to get an i5 9400f and GTX 1660 running with Windows 7, or should I just go live in the woods?

so when you want to add something at the bottom it's just one click? well that's why I enable it anyway

Lumix G7

Are there any simple ways using commonly available items to increase the reception of a shitty pocket wifi? Like putting it in a tin can or behind some foil or something?

even the old t410 was like that, the palmrest was made of really cheap plastic and it would just crack with normal use

Install windows 10 2019 LTSC.
Once done install updates manually (cumulative updates)
Disable forced updates, defender and telemetry in group policy.

There, as good as it gets.
>Can i install W7
Depends in the motherboard.

An antenna...?
Amplifier?

I'm already using LTSC with everything disabled.

My board is a Z390 MSi Pro.

What is bothering you about 10 currently?

Bluescreen issues, too many restrictions even with LTSC and group policy edits.

Can I have two SSD and 1 hdd?
I want to swap my windows off my old ssd and games off my old hdd then use them both for backups
How would I swap windows from 1 ssd to another, drag and drop?

Wtf kind of ram is this?
It won't fit a normal ram slot?

Attached: 20-167-462-V04.jpg (640x480, 26K)

you can have as many drives as you have connection ports and of any type. my desktop has 3 SSDs and 1 HDD and my laptop has 2 SSDs

there are programs for cloning a windows install from one drive to another, but I've never used any and don't even know any names.

Disk clone, and then repair via safe mode, most of the time it requires a little tinkering with the bootrec command, from personal experience, assuming you use Windows.

disk-partition.com/articles/cloned-hard-drive-ssd-wont-boot-4348.html

nah, it’s a flux capacitor

Assuming you aren't pretending to be retarded, that's an m.2 SSD.

That's not RAM lad, it's an SSD. M2 NVME I think.

Why does moving a ten thousand 1 KB files take so much longer than moving a single 10 MB file?

why if you make a full disk image and compress it with winrar, it's smaller than if you compress all the files into one file using winrar?

Well this is the stupid questions thread so I'm forced to assume you're not trolling and are really that retarded.
So I'll answer with the equally retarded joke the cashier at the Microcenter made when I bought one of those things.
"It's a Mewtwo."

how do i make firefox use my history before google search

What is the likelihood that windows 10 will corrupt my linux partition if I was to dual boot on the same drive?
Or screw the partitioning and install it an separate drive?

yeah, they fucked this up with the new firefox

I'm upgrading from an i3 8100 and Asrock H310 board to an i7 9700k and MSI Z390 Pro.

Can I clone the drive and save myself the trouble of reinstalling windows, or will there be driver issues?

It won't. Windows used to nuke the bootloader and install its own, so you have to sometimes reinstall the bootloader if you install windows second.

how bad is windows 10 when compared to 7?

HP Streams are actual beasts. They are cheap as fuck but mine has lasted me 3 years now

gentoo
then use based pqiv

It's usable but there are a lot of annoying problems where you try to do something and it should work but it doesn't because microsoft deliberately broke it because it doesn't trust you with /their/ intellectual property. But you don't have a choice if you want windows on new hardware.
I mean, see windows 8 for just how stupid they think the average computer user is. And they were right by the way, they are that dumb, but they've all learned over time how to handle things in a certain way and 8 was actually so dumbed down that I couldn't figure out how to do anything in it, so there's no way a moron would unless they'd never used a computer before.
LTSC is a bit better about that since it doesn't include so much of the dumbed down bloatware for retards.

Are there any tools for windows or an Android app that can capture a video and display it's actual frame rate and resolution? I have some video feeds I want to compare quality and frame rate and confirm what the real rates are versus what's being claimed.

So I'm trying to pin down a problem of a PC. I have switched everything to check the source of the issue, besides the CPU, so it's between that and the mobo. Sometimes the PC will shutdown under load, sometimes with a buzzing sound when playing games. Switching the GPU's PCIe slot didn't make a difference, and same for a different GPU. This GA-970A-UD3 mobo will also do long beeps when not booting, and the manual says it's "GPU not inserted properly". It will sometimes keep doing that beeping and suddenly finally boot surprisingly. Is the motherboard done for?

how can we fight windows 10?

Is anyone familiar with throttling? I downloaded a ton of porn recently thanks to the sadpanda thing and I feel like I'm being throttled but I don't have experience with it.

Would throttling make everything go insanely high in latency?
I've been watching resmo all day and my browser keeps spiking to 6k the second I decide to change pages. I just replaced the modem and wires and the problem is persisting on all of my devices.

so there's no way to fix it? not even with extensions?
fuck

It could be that your PSU is being overloaded. And if it can't provide enough power to the GPU, it might fail to be noticed on boot. But it could just be your motherboard is toast.
Install an operating system that respects your freedom.

It can't possibly be the PSU, I've tested 3 including a brand new Seasonic one and they all have the same issue.

>Install an operating system that respects your freedom.
which one?

I'm on Verizon on my phone but I have a Galaxy s9 plus. Why can't I surf the Internet and talk on the phone at the same time? Is there a way to fix this in the developer options or in his regular options?

Call your ISP and bitch. When they slow my speeds down once every 4 months or so I call them niggers and they usually fix it and apologize. Then again I’m on 1gb fiber optic unlimited.

Is there a way of completely encrypting an internal drive and having grub on an external drive so there is no unencrypted boot partition?

are 2.5" hard drives necessarily any less reliable than 3.5" hard drives?

Motherboard, slot or PSU are kill.

Yes there is a huge difference between the two when it comes to reliability.

My Samsung Galaxy S6 won't charge anymore.

Whenever I plug it in the orange light to indicate charging doesn't show up,

It still warms up though as if it was charging. Wut do?

I've never experienced that, but come to think of it I've only ever looked something up on a call while connected to a wifi network.

Ubuntu

Please help me out /sqt/
I've been trying to install Windows 10 on a new computer, but the installation keeps getting stuck as soon as it's done with the "Copying Windows files" stage, it doesn't even show any percentage near "Getting files ready for installation".
At first I thought there might have been some error when I was writing the bootable flash drive, so I formatted it and tried to rewrite it again, but I'm still having the same problem
Some more possibly useful information:
>I don't have a product key, was going to use one of those activators
>Windows version is 1903
>Flash drive was created using Microsoft's Media Creation Tool

>want to clone hard drive to ssd and swap ssd into laptop (t420, ubuntu/lxde)
>ssd is a samsung 860 evo
>plug into usb port with usb/msata adaptor
>sudo lsusb returns "Bus 002 Device 006: ID 174c:55aa ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1051E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1053E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1153 SATA 3Gb/s bridge
"
>otherwise nothing happens, not visible in file explorer etc
wut do

Use a different flash drive.
Use a downloaded ISO and rufus.

Mount it?

Is there an easy way to copy all of the file names in a folder in windows 10 to a text document or spreadsheet?

I've got a list of a few thousand files that I need the names of and I'm a brainlet when it comes to programming/scripting.

Attached: Structure_and_Interpretation_of_Computer_Programs.jpg (400x579, 50K)

I blush to confess that I didn't know what that was. Thanks.

>I think I may have killed my HDD with my new PSU.
I dug out an old disk drive and plugged it into the PSU and my rig booted without any problems, I think the issue is my HDD. I left the SATA power cable from my old PSU connected to the hdd during my first boot and immediately corrected the mistake after it didn't run, I didn't hear/smell anything and the drive looks fine but all signs point to it being fried by the new psu.
It's over lads, I mainly use this rig for games and I wasn't smart enough to back it up, is there a chance I can salvage it?
I'm ordering a new SSD this weekend, is there anything else I can do? Am I going to have to pirate Win 8.1 or is w10 finally viable for gaming?

Now that rabb.it is dead, what are some ways for the retarded to watch video together in sync? No Discord. Should be able to stream from PC->iOS.

Attached: rabbit.png (953x318, 24K)

The easiest way I can think of would be to do something like cd c:\folder\ then ls and just copy the terminal output but I don't know what the equivalent commands are.

Hey, im gonna start learning to program in Python using the automatetheboringstuff.com . My question is: should i buy Automating the Boring Stuff Book?

I have the money, and i know the book is free on the web. But i find it more comfy in paper, what are your thoughts?

Attached: 1564586654744.png (651x588, 44K)

After a bit of googling I figured out a somewhat easy way:

Putting "dir /a /b /-p /o:gen >names.txt" in a text file and saving it as .bat did the trick.

Thanks for the assistance though, user.

/tg/ here. PDFs are great for quick searching, but I love being able to flip though a book. I'd say go for it if you won't miss the money/would easily spend it on something dumb.

I think my fonts are fucked up, but the programs logs are not showing errors.
> fucked programs py3status, nicotine, sublime-text and probably others.
Some help will be usefull.

Do the first several chapters online, and if you don't lose interest and still miss paper, buy it

>live in tiny south african family compound of 8 small houses
>everyone watches and records camera footage on their phones
>because I have a PC and 3 monitors my wife's uncle asks if I can use one to watch the 20+ cameras on nights I stay up late online
>set everything up but because computer is not that great, the software make's my gayming and web browsing slower
I have an old PC that could run the cameras but it would take up limited space and look retarded. Is there aome sort of tiny, cheap hardware on the market I could use juat to run this program on one of my monitors?

Whats some good Video editing software to use on Windows 10?

want it for free/will pirate.

Also i own a MSI GP73 Leopard, im not having any problems with it but is there anything i should worry about with it in the future? had it 7 months and barring a broken screen that was my fault no problemsso far.

Kali Linux and wifiphisher
Opinions and experience?

i have a wpa pass and live in downtown Manhattan, do I really have to worry?

How long b4 you canT delete your post here?

I have an HP Microserver at home with CentOS installed on them. There is running an SMB and Nextcloud on it.

Question:
Now I want to install docker to segmenting the applications from each other. Is this now possible after installed the applications before to take them in a docker container afterwards?

Attached: docker.png (1200x1071, 567K)

Are touch-screen or android flip-phones a thing? Anything good or standout?

If the ports are free, Docker containers containing an application have NOTHING to do with the application itself installed on the host.

there's no generic way to do it, you'll have to migrate each application separately but it should be possible
i'd start by spinning up containers of the application docker images then seeing what config you have to copy across then create docker images out of those that you can just spin up and teardown as you please

hehey /sqt/

When people said "this game is CPU-intensive", what does it means and how can we physically see it? Stutter? Freezing?

Afaik the only time CPU choice is important in games is that using an underpowered CPU will bottleneck GPU performance but I don't know how CPU will directly affecting gaming.

I mean, I saw how SSD and RAM is important to a gaming computer's performance to some extent but I just can't see which part in the game that actually use CPU power

>me
newfag with docker

Ports are free, but I can also define them by myself or? But the other thingmakes sense, thanks.

So you mean I should download smb and nextcloud in a finished docker container on dockerhub and then copying the configuration on it?

>download smb and nextcloud in a finished docker container on dockerhub and then copying the configuration on it?
pretty much, if your config doesn't change a lot you can create a new docker image using the ones from docker hub as a base and overlaying your config on top of it using a Dockerfile
some docker images can be configured using shared volumes/mounts which allow you to share folders/files between your host machine and the container, for those you don't need to create custom images with your own configuration since you can just mount you existing configuration

the CPU has to feed the GPU instructions on what to draw
if you have tons of models on screen each with their logic it will be the CPU doing all that work, the GPU is pretty dumb but can do a lot of work in parallel so it won't be doing the state transition calculations for all the models in the game
especially if the game has a lot of AI, most of that is usually done in the CPU since it can't really be parallelised well

>log into sdf
>trying out commands
>lost track of a program that i backgrounded
>ps aux
>long output
>wait hang on
>i can see processes from other users
should i be worried?
