Dumb kids brainwashed by LOL HIGH RESOLUTION ON SMALL SCREENS MAKES A DIFFERENCE bullshit

But my thinkpad is 12" 1400x1050 ips

you smell like a buttmad phoneposter and I bet your fuckin phone has a larger resolution than a 1000USD lenovo laptop

no one is forcing you to buy a 1366x768 tn panel.
if you have half a brain you can customise your lenovo tm thinkpad tm.

>1366x768
feels comfy desu.
Moved from x220 to t480, opted to save a few bucks and went with 1366x768. I can upgrade to an HD for ~$50 whenever i grow tired of this.

1366x768 literally makes complete sense in the business world where there are a bunch of boomers that cant see and IT doesn't want to deal with things fucking up because people have very different resolutions and scaling. reminder that a lot of businesses rely on highly specific no-frills ancient software that literally breaks at high resolution. this is why I think levono still offers old OS installs as well. lenovo's biggest business is purchases from other businesses and poorfag laptops where the res makes sense. 1366x768 I personally feel fine with at 13" and below. it makes running games on mobile chips with integrated GPUs a lot easier too. I can still run less intensive games above 30fps and a many titles at 60 on my 2012 thinkpad.

phones don't have more real-estate to use the higher res though, the UI is still huge so you're basically paying for video sharpness and smooth edges on UI elements. this is why over 1080p on phones and even laptops is a waste unless you actually need it for say video work. high res screens suck battery life a lot.

Dumb consumerist sheep thread.

If you don't give a shit about pixel resolution and you'd prefer to have a display with the same DPI as laptops from the 90's, then more power to you.

If you value a nice display with high resolution, then I hope you chose the right laptop that has what you want.

Why are any of you bitching and shitting on each other?

Perfectly fine for a laptop.

>pixel resolution

most windows 10 ui doesn't even fit on that resolution
go try it out and come back crying you piece of shit

Do any other laptop manufacturers still sell laptops with 1366x768 TN panels?

Attached: 1558505543645.png (772x1024, 557K)

Once you went Retina in 2013 you couldn't go back to shitty screens.

...

It's as tall as a 1024x768 display (so tall dialogs fit on screen), but in 16:9 resolution.
Window elements designed on a 1024x768 screen are the correct relative size to the screen.
The majority of old people using these displays will bitch with higher resolutions because a: non-integer application scaling fucking blows absolute chunks and shit breaks and b: if you don't scale, everything is smaller relative to the size of the screen.
Many applications are designed expecting a ~1366x768 screen, so a 2x scale on most higher resolutions will ensure that shit goes off the edge because the window has a 720px minimum height.

There are a lot of reasons for 1366x768 remaining common, and I could keep going.
and besides, it literally could be worse, we could be stuck with 1280x720

Personally, I'd advocate for a 2732x1536 (2x) display if manufacturers aren't going to do 4k displays.
but a standard 3840 x 2160 screen would be an effective 1280x720 with a 3x scale -- not perfect, but good enough for the vast majority of non-hi-DPI aware programs

I haven't bought a laptop since 2011. Is the standard really still 1366x768?

It's not about ebin resolution for l33t gaymen laptop bullshit or any of that. Just having more screen real estate.

Attached: 1557475808739.png (1626x1450, 187K)

Based resolution makes an 1050 ti feel like a fucking 1080

Nearly every mayor retailer has 1366×768 laptops for sale, it baffles me how manufactures still pump out millions of these displays because consumers don't know any better.

Attached: 1533757568826.png (632x852, 47K)

sorry to break up the party for all you neets and underage faggots but the resolution exists in their product lines by DEMAND. many large companies and multinationals use old esoteric in-house software with no scaling.

>Bought laptop in 2012
>1600x900

I'm pretty sure HP EliteBook still come with that.

It makes sense for the enterprise and businesses but it's the current year and consumer grade laptops still use that shitty resolution just so that corporate boomers can make a quick shekel.

JUST

they exist in budget consumer grade laptops because, here's a shocker, they're cheaper.

nah it's because they cheap out on everything because employers mistreat company equipment

that is also a factor yeah

>not posting dimensions in miles with the ppi and leaving it up to the consumer

IPS LCD's have been around for decades now, the technology behind them has grown enough to the point where most 1080p panels are dirt cheap, there's literally no excuse for a laptop to have a crappy 720p screen in 2019.

go and undercut the market then. should be easy with your cheaper 1080p panels

nonononono we cant escape this hellllllll aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh linus tech tips hellllllpppp uuuuuuuuusssss give us 4k laaaptoooppppsssss we sacrifice our GPUs please looorrd linus

Size matters more desu.
I got a 11" 1080p IPS laptop and a 14" 768p TN laptop and I use the the shitty 14" TN one more.

>1080p panels are dirt cheap
Sure. Are they cheaper than 1366x768 panels? I doubt it.

At typical laptop viewing distances the pixels are not even visually distinguishable, instead even with 20/20 vision there is a “retina” effect making them blend seamlessly together.

same here bro
almost got 1600x900 but fuck that shit
i miss 1680x1050 but 1920x1080 is fine

Thinkpads under IBM were 1400x1050, 1600x1200 and they even had a 2048x1536 IPS in the early 2000s.

Meanwhile Chinknovo Thinkpads are stuck at 1366x768 TN in 2019. It's honestly embarrassing. The lowest resolution Macbook has a 2560x1600 panel IPS 400 nits of brightness on the 13" Air.

>Chinknovo Thinkpads are stuck at 1366x768 TN in 2019
No they’re not. That’s simply the default resolution offered for Excel boomers, you stupid fucking faggot. And it’s fine for every use case.
>buh buh buh my 10-but cartoons
Grow the fuck up tranny.

>Macbook has a 2560x1600 panel
That's one thing Apple does right.
FUCK all this unusable 16:9 garbage

>why would you want a BMW bro, a Chery will get you there anyway

>faggots unironically DEFENDING 768 VERTICAL PIXELS IN 2019

I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU ARE THIS RETARDED.

It’s more efficient and any more pixels are wasteful. Plus 1366x768 keeps the s o y b o y s away because they can’t watch their precious cartoons in less than full HD.

Most based reso.

Attached: wut.jpg (630x615, 35K)

I love when they advertise it as "HD"

My dad fell for this meme, bought the cheapest laptop at walmart against my advice, because he "needed it in a hurry"

It's ironic they advertise it as "HD" when it's the lowest screen resolution that they are allowed to make since 786 vertical pixels is the minimum requirement for Windows 10.

HD is anything greater than 640x480. But stay mad, I’m loving watching you trannies seethe about this.

This, I installed LineageOS on my phone just to downscale the UI so it won't look cramped and the battery won't run dry after 1 day

1366x768 is a huge limiting factor for a lot of workloads
Can't hope to use any sort of image/photo editing or god forbid video editing tools on it because there's simply not enough working surface to house just the control elements, much less the actual preview.
And I don't image playing around with a DAW yields a much better experience either

That's just plain false. Unless you're viewing some sort of micro-laptop, the pixels are clearly visible and you get a clear LC grid effect ala an old gameboy.

>touhou

sure is summer

1680x1050 you mean

16:9 is the worst meme to ever happen to laptops. The proportions just don't work right for a portable item's dimensions, and also it feel like I'm using the computer through eye slits because there's simply not enough vertical space.

Just use a vertical panel/taskbar or none.

A few years ago when I moved from a matte display 16:10 ThinkPad to a 16:9 glossy Asus I wanted to off myself

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT THE FUCK IS IT WITH THIS RESOLUTION
WHY DOES IT KEEP POPPING UP
WHY EXACTLY THAT RESOLUTION

Probably true, considering the 1080p panels are usually set to 150% scaling by default, which makes the effective resolution 1280x720 which is even less dense than 1366x768

>using apples buzzwords

i use my x240 with FHD. pretty comfy desu

lurk moar

>999+

remember back then when 1024x768 was the norm?
well, after a while widescreens got popular and jews stretched 1024x768 a bit then called it innovashun
25 years later and it still sells

>Retina
aka
>720p IPS

based and very redpilled

>720p IPS
nothing wrong with that

I'm happy finally moving to 1080p this years. Really awesome, so much room.
I don't understand why 768p still widely use in Laptop. Is china over produced tons of this screen that they need to exhausted the stock first?

you do realize that anime is created in 720p and up-scaled to 1080p? only retards dl 1080p chinese moving pictures

>t. seething poorfag
my laptop has a 3000x2000 13.5" panel which I run at x2 scaling, text is so crisp I get a semi when looking at the screen.

and now include 1080

But my Lenovo Thinkpad has
>1920x1080

Putting a 1920x1200 into my W500 was like waking up and realizing that FHD should be bare minimum for a 15" laptop. I would post my marisa with my W500, but isp is banned from image posting.

defend high-resolution battery sucking displays then
>MUH SMOOTH EDGES CHECK OUT THAT CHROME LOGO BRUH

except those were in laptops many years before "retina". I used 1024x768 back on the original x40 series thinkpad.

Fuck you. You're like the TV manufacturing jews who tricked people into getting shitty 720p TVs instead of actual HD 1080p ones.
>oh no no goy, I said HD, not "full HD"!

x250 owner. The resolution on 12.5' is not an issue.
The absolute garbage screen is though desu. The IPS versions, 768p/1080p, doesn't even matter which, are worth it.

>falling for marketing speak when the specs are listed on the box
do people not look at stuff before buying?

Attached: 1366x768.png (1366x768, 1024K)

You'd be surprised. Also a lot of TV manufacturers flat-out don't list the actual resolution on a box. The only way to know is to be keen to their marketing bullshit and that when they say "HD" they only mean 720p. When I visited my parents, I used one of their new TVs and I was confused why the picture quality was so shit. I didn't even know they still made 720p TVs in 2018, and it didn't say anywhere on the box what the actual resolution was. Had to search the model number and find out that way.

Screen real estate matters, fag

this. multitasking on a 1366x768 laptop is insufferable. Even when you downsize/minimize everything you possibly can, it's just not enough.

If you have a craptop, it makes sense. 768p actually has half the pixels that 1080p has.

Attached: 1564512590633.jpg (1024x544, 60K)

I bought a Lenovo laptop for my nephew and his mother found porn in his browser history. As the calm, rational woman she is she smashed the laptop with a big rock. This rendered the screen unusable. I have a similar laptop and I put the 1080p TN panel it came with in my nephews panel and ordered myself a compatible 1080p ISP panel. It arrived after 3 weeks and I'm still using it. that 1080p IPS panel cost me $40.

A cheaper laptop's $1000 and there's plenty of models from Lenovo and other brands which cost twice as much. Ordering panels in bulk is obviously cheaper than just buying one 1080p IPS panel - which, as I said, cost me $40. Putting 1366x768 TN panels is just inexcusable.

I can understand arguments for using 1080p on laptops up to 15.5", that's 141ppi which isn't that far from a 28" 4k display (158ppi). 1366x768 at 15.5" is 100dpi and that's .. not "perfectly fine". I have that too, I have a really cheap laptop for when I do work in the no-go zones we have here in Sweden. Its a 1366x768 TN panel on it. That's just horrible and not at all "perfectly fine".

>they're cheaper.
explain this:
13.3" chromebook: 1080p IPS
15.5" laptop 3x the price: 1080p TN
??

link me model

summer isnt a thing , this has been confirmed

Just get a used MacBook and install Gentoo on it lmao

the user your replying to has no idea
---

the true reason is that the major corporations buy laptops in big batches and the company will just order the bare minimum sppec (720p tn)

they get those since it is cheaper for them but lenowo has this strat down.

they dont actually make the product cheaper. they prob just take like 20dollars or whatever off the price of a laptop with 1080p screens and are basically gaining a huge margin by selling the tn at like 2x its price

The Panasonic 1620p panels are unironically based
