I'm going to study computer science in a couple of weeks and my school has sent out some requirements for the computer required. GPU isn't that important since it will mainly be used for programming and studying.
1. min. 8 GB RAM 2. A newer i5 or i7 CPU (or an AMD equivalent) 3. min. 256 GB storage 4. max 1000$ 5. The lighter it is, the better
this make sure you get one with a 1080p display tho no, too old.

Go for newer think pads. Don't listen to retards trying to convince you that t420 is good enough for most people.
Look for t450s/t460 with IPS full HD screen. After leasing they are dirt cheap, and not too aged for most common tasks. They have also hot swappable battery which is huge plus on long travels

I assume he wants a good laptop, so don't recommend outdated garbage you fucking arrogant faggot.
Get a 1440p IPS screen, it's an absolute must for programming. 17" if you can, no less than 15" ever. Any CPU will do, you can set up distcc over ipv6 from your desktop at home, don't worry about compile speeds. Plus, literally every modern pentium can compile the heaviest student's projects in less than 30 seconds. 8GB DDR4 is plenty plenty for student's projects.

unironically a think pad. just browse through lenovo and pick one. They all have very good build quality. although some have some small bad stuff (for example the x1 has awful speakers and camera if you care about that) however overall it's way better than most of the stuff that you can find

I don't think I could adjust to mac os, otherwise it would probably be the best option for me.
I'm actually leaning towards some kind of zenbook from asus.
