why would you ruin a good laptop like that autist

I stuck between either a T43o or x220 for my main programming laptop.

I execute a lot of 3d visuals, and travel often so I gotta make sure my bby lasts long and doesn't explode on me

Attached: 1564805105243.jpg (498x573, 55K)

Looks like shit with the black led part

because the lid had the shadow of where an apple logo sticker used to be and no amount of alcohol, acetone or windex would get rid of it without damaging the coating
so i sanded it and painted it

Anyone ever tried an egpu setup on an x220 under Linux? I'm living in my apartment during the week but usually go home for the weekend where my desktop is, but I'd like to be able to play some games while I'm here as well.

Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade the wireless card on my T420. Do you guys have recommendations for any, preferably ones which play well with linux (open source drivers a plus, but not a necessity). Thanks

oh, bluepad guy here again
i have a thinkpad advanced dock for this z61t, the one with a pcie x16 slot running at x1
what gpu should i cram in there? its single slot, full height but only a bit past slot length
single slot is the limit, i cannot do anything wider than a pcie slot

*sips*
yeap, you don't need anything more than a w530.

Is this worth the price?

So why did you choose to paint it bright blue instead of flat black?

You can find cheaper, that’s not a good deal

For that money at least try and get a T430 or T440p

everyone has a black thinkpad
now i have a bluepad

So does your bluepad not think?

no, it uses windows vista
its effectively braindead

I found these two. Are these better? I'm looking for something with at least 8GB of ram and if possible an SSD because I've heard good things about those.

Are the nupads worth getting? I really want a 1440p+ display in a laptop.

Attached: lenovo-laptop-thinkpad-x1-yoga-4th-gen-hero.png (725x515, 76K)

I'm sorry to hear that.

what were the specs of the yoga?

Much cheaper? How much cheaper?

NEVER get laptops from people who use those stock photos of thinkpads or dells. those are ALWAYS scams and you will get a busted up laptop. Those sellers and listings are basically chink listings

Go for the T440p user, great machine. I have one and I love it.

Some are, some aren't. They're going to cost as much as an Apple laptop, but you're actually going to get what your paying for. You're getting a "high end" business machine, not something that costs a ton because of the name and how nice it looks.
That being said, new thinkpads don't necessarily have that same appeal and value as older ones do. Old thinkpads are cheap and a really good value because they were such good computers when they were new. You'd be getting one that is really good now and down the line people will look at like they do t420's now.

My T430 brothers, have any of you tried to swap the utter garbage Toshiba heatsink/fan for the Delta one? Did you guys swapped for the regular one or for the dGPU one? Do I need to flash anything in the bios?
Need some guidance here, can't stand the banshee screams anymore.

>2019
>lenovo is still crap

W520
>cant use 3 external monitors
T420
>can

hey wtf

i used the regular heatsink. it's a straight swap no need to flash a bios or anything

Nice. How silent it is?

a lot quieter and less screechy than the toshiba heatsink

>buy a refurb T430
>battery it comes with doesn't hold a charge for long
>buy new authentic battery, same capacity
>it drains just as quickly - way too fast

Did I strike out twice in a row, or is that just par for the course?

Get a 9-cell, doesn't matter if it's used.

The one it came with is a 9-cell. (I returned the other one since it didn't seem to make a difference.

I did make a couple adjustments to the laptop. I swapped the hard drive out with an SSD, replaced the CD drive with a 2nd hard drive space, and put a 1TB SATA in there. I could see that affecting the power maybe a bit, but I'm losing 1% battery every 5 minutes. Can't imagine it'd make that much of an immpact.

Hows the keyboard on that one?

i'm socially retarded and have a t420

what operating system should i use

still cute, ignore the haters

sup Jow Forumsangstas, i'm going to fall for the meme and buy a thinkpad, which model should get? I’m gonna to use it for anime torrenting and youtube.

OpenBSD

I broke my T420. I put the wrong screw in the wrong hole (was drinking) and sent a screw through the motherboard and RAM.

It was shitting out, anyway.
Bought an X250. I'm fucking excited. I got the decent 1080p screen (non touch) and i7.

What's the "thinkpad" of monitors?

x250
ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=thinkpad x250 i7-5600U&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_sop=15&_osacat=0&_odkw=i7-5600U

If you're smart you'll be able to get i7-5600U, 8gb ram, FHD IPS screen upgrade and ssd for around $300. Just don't pay too much for the base model and do the math beforehand.

Any love for system76?

Thinkview

Whoops meant: Thinkvision

I just got a cheap t430 last week, really liking it so far. How much better is the xx20 keyboard? I plan on doing a swap.
And where can a source one? I've seen some third party t420 replacements but I don't know what the quality of those are like.

Im looking to get a t430. Should I pay a little extra for the model with the dedicated nvidia gpu? Its not a very good card. Would it be better to get a basic model and upgrade to the better heatsink and much better cpu (i7-3840QM)? I would just get the dedicated graphics model and then upgrade the cpu but I wouldnt be able to get as good of a cpu as I would on the other model because of overheating issues. BasicalIy, is the the dedicated gpu worth a weaker cpu? I know this sounds kind of autistic but im new to this and need help :(

Everyone I've talked to with it has said they regret going for the dgpu. It's shit, and drains battery, and outputs heat making the fan run more and the cpu run hotter...
Buy an expresscard to pcie adapter if you want more gpu power

What's the max amount of memory for a T410?

Can you link me where you bought yours?

I believe 16gb with a bios update but 8gb stock

With an official or modded BIOS?

>but I'm losing 1% battery every 5 minutes
That's roughly 8 hours of use, that's as good as it's going to be with T430, bruh.

....what kind of battery life are you expecting?

Is a T420 with 12GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD worth $120?

Attached: T420.png (1000x688, 1.03M)

Thats a pretty good price

Just get a W541 m8

Attached: 20190731_004745.jpg (2179x1906, 2.41M)

40% off on thinkpads on lenovo rn.
i7 9750h, 8 gigs, 256 nvme, 4k ips anti glare, gtx 1650 max q, 80 kwh battery for 1770 usd. Should i cop?

also an user told me here to hold off buying as lenovo'll launch a sale on 4th august and lo and behold, they did. How did you know that user? Do they follow a set schedule of sales?

Attached: x1 extreme gen 2.jpg (1000x1000, 109K)

The displays suck in them.

Are the carbons okay? I want somewhat newer hardware and a larger resolution. I don't mind the newer keyboards
My x201 died a while back and I never replaced the mobo out of laziness/fear of fucking something up. My t420 seems to have issues with any replacement battery and some persistent wifi issue that wasn't fixed in a card change.
I've seen a few generation 1 carbons for around 200 bucks on ebay and been thinking about it. I don't mind the chunkier models so maybe I should just get another t series.

Anyone know good shops in Japan to buy used thinkpads?

Compared to what

My x220 is really starting to take a beating. Never ever upgrading.

yeah that's pretty good
i payed £125 for 4GB RAM and 298GB hdd

there's a BIOS whitelist, get one from there

>I execute a lot of 3d visuals

How good are thinkpad keyboard? How are they compared to dell Latitudes and Vostros? I really like my old Vostro although I wish that the keyboard travel is a bit longer. I'm only interested on newer thinkpads (T430 or higher).

I have an XPS 13 and the keyboard/trackpad fucking suck so I'm switching to a ThinkPad. I'm eyeing the T480 since my mate can get me one new for AU $1000. I've only tried the X1 keyboard and I've heard that the T480 one isn't as good, is this true or just placebo?
Cheers

Does i5 or i7 really matter for thinkpad?

Close to everything desu. They really aren't very good displays. The other hardware is fantastic though.

they used to be good but the newest generations keep making the keyboard worse, the latest x1c 7th gen is one of the worst keyboards they've ever made

Well it's the newest laptop I've owned so it looks great to me.
>He doesn't stay 2 Gen behind to get the same incrimental performance growth at 1/10th the cost

I also forgot the 7th gen X1 existed, I've tried the 6th gen keyboard and that was really good, I'm just hoping that the T480 one is good too

Get the T580 for screen real estate, trust me.
Not so much.

very nice user :3

Attached: 1564801144672.jpg (831x1160, 127K)

Is this legit? The photos of the bezels aren't consistent, so I'm not sure if it's a real posting.

How is the 51nb X330 compared to the old X230?

ebay.com.au/itm/Think-Pad-X230-330-51nb-com-Mint-Condition/133131222376

i got the yoga 460 which is like 2 years old now but fairly new, the digitizer/stylus is great and it has a sata bay, issue with the x1/ x1 yoga is soldered ram and no sata bay

800 aussie dollars for a fucking x230 with a retro keyboard and new screen??? no no no

Noted. How do you find the keyboard shift to the left? Seems a bit uncomfortable, I'm a uni student with tiny lecture tables. Cheers

I mean 3d modeling like mandelbrot sets, 3d data graphs, etc

>3d can only mean vidya

X230 or T430?

worth?

Does any of you guys own one of these and could share some experiences?

Attached: yogac930.jpg (639x400, 81K)

The buttons above the trackpad on my T420 seem to work veeeeery intermitttently. I've found that the left mouse button barely works, but the right mouse button works occasionally if I spam it

X230 smaller T430 bigger
T430 also has CD drive which can be replaced for another 2.5" drive bay, but they also both have an mSATA SSD slot
but all of those things are kind of unnecessary IMO and you can get 1tb SSD's for $100 nowadays

for one, those are the trackpoint buttons
and two, do any other keyboard buttons seem to not work very well? If so then the keyboard cable may be damaged and you'll have to replace the whole thing, which is only like $20
if it is only the trackpoint buttons then someone might have tried pulling the buttons off to clean it or something and broken the tiny plastic bits since the keyboards aren't meant to be taken apart and put back together...

...just run a calibration test? If you're on Windows then you can use the Thinkvantage software or Thinkpad Power Manager. If you're on Linux then you can use TLP.

Recalibrate the battery and then see if the capacity is near what it's supposed to be.

It's just those buttons, I'll pull them myself and give it a shot a little bit later when I get home

The problem is that everytime I order something, it seems to get "lost" in the mail on the way here, so I really want to avoid having to get a new keyboard if possible.

I'll see if I can maybe find a dead thinkpad somewhere nearby to scavenge parts from, that would probably be the easiest

x250 is the t440p of the x-series, chad move

Anyone here has one of these?
Does the "power" button work on non-Lenovo laptops?

It's not a big deal since I don't use my laptop closed (having a small secondary screen is nice) but I was wondering since the power off/power on button not doing anything is the fault of Linux (guess not, since it doesn't work while powered off, and that's independent of the platform right?) or just Lenovo making it send a non-standard signal only Lenovo laptops understand.

Attached: Zrzut ekranu z 2019-08-05 18-09-32.png (734x481, 49K)

Some one has a good guide and some tips to coreboot a t420?

kill yourself pedo

Attached: 8AN6Pwz.jpg (4320x2332, 351K)

based

So I've checked the buttons out and they seem fine, that must mean cable damage then.... Upon inspecting the cable I noticed a small cut on it. I'll have to go looking for a supplier.

Are there any sellers that ship internationally that you might be able to recommend?
