>Want to duel boot linux on new laptop >Hey i'l try some of that FOSS stuff Jow Forums talks about >Debian sounds good, look at all the nice things they say about it >Try to install, no wifi drivers by default >have to stop installation half way through and download "non-free" drivers on a different computer to get internet access >Try again, it works close laptop lid for a second, black screen >try F7, it says screens locked and will give me a login prompt in a second >5 minutes later open tty and loginctl unlock-session 2 and i'm back in >10 minutes later make a openSUSE usb >Hey it's got YasT >Install openSUSE >much nicer graphical installer >pick what software I want, detects my wifi card right away >go ahead and partition and... >Ldm_parse_tocblock(): Cannot find TOCBLOCK, database may be corrupt >now my computer just boots to a blank screen >boot loader is broken >MBR is corrupoted >fdisk can't even delete partitions >wipe the entire disk (goodbye windows 10) >at about 8 hours of troubleshooting by this point >make a ubuntu usb >beautiful installer >wifi just werks >installs without a problem >Linux up and running in under 20 minutes
There's a reason why Ubuntu is always recommended as a baby loonix user's first distro, user.

>be a retard >shit breaks wow
Ayden Jenkins
not to pass the buck, but dual booting w windows adds a lot of complexity.
Wyatt Anderson
>run default installer >shit breaks
wow
Levi Martin
sorry, really tired. cut my post off randomly devs for enterprise products like suse and rhel don't really care that much about the market segment that is dual booting and using random wifi cards because they don't make shit for money off of u i have no interest in minimizing the lack of development/streamlining here cause i don't care about your segment at all either, but you can expect higher quality support for a lot of other shit, most of it is either easier [license issues make this more complicated than you would expect] and also benefit a larger user segment
Caleb Ward
you are the exception, not the rule. I've literally never heard of the OpenSUSE installer not working for someone and I myself have installed it on 4 computers before
Logan Evans
It's actually impressive how many windows babies manage to fuck up GUI installers. OpenSUSE's especially is fucking braindead. I would pay money to see a windows baby do a vanilla arch install.
Nolan Ortiz
okay then bud, try installing windows 10 on another partition on a hard drive with a linux distro on it. The dual booting is the problem, and while linux distros at least attempt to handle it, microsoft doesn't even try. And yet its the linux distros that get blamed
Cooper Long
>he fell for autistic linux Jow Forums memes
install gentoo
Liam Powell
>Want to duel boot linux on new laptop why would you EVER want that
Jackson Martin
dude you feel for the linux meme....literally nothing aside from Windows OS is worth it Windows it just runs...all software is made for it you are literally cutting yourself from the world by not using windows
Xavier Baker
It's fine maybe get your dad to fix it for you.
Carson Gutierrez
>not using Fedora in the first place There's your mistake
Jose Edwards
Counterexamples are worth more than proexamples.
Jonathan Reed
when they're so vastly outnumbered they are called anomalies
John Torres
>know about Debian's policy that doesn't include non-free software beforehand >still goes through with it >why o why aren't all these proprietary programs installing >fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck You're a special kind of retard, aren't you?
Jace Carter
you're in for a treat OP, when you install windows again for your dual-boot, it will fuck up the bootloader :^)
Jonathan Edwards
>duel boot violence is never the answer
Connor Smith
>Dualbooting with WINDOWS 10
Holy shit ahahahah
Jordan Sanchez
Dude, just start with the simple stuff. Both Suse and Debian are for more advanced users. Try Mint or ubuntu, they wont let you down. The usual gravitation goes from mint - ubuntu - debian - manjaro - arch, something like that.
i used popOS as my GPU was UEFI-only, therefore Ubuntu wouldn't boot also popOS ended up having a better ui and looked better so that was a good choice ubuntus still good tho
Jose James
Had nothing but problems with Stretch
Austin Jenkins
Lmao you're actually retarded
Oliver Richardson
t. doesnt know that arch linux is satire and uses it unironically
Mason Diaz
If u fuck up debian its your fault, i downloaded 32 bit by mistake and im so comfy i dont wanna go thru the hassle of installing again since im lazy,
T.brainlet who never used linux before 3 weeks ago
