Alright guys enough living in the past...

Alright guys enough living in the past, instead of pining for obsolete computers why don't we bring the 80s and 90s aesthetic and ethos to modern computers?

chunky buttons and bitmap fonts, yes
battleship grey and obsession with blue, no thanks

Sadly only chicago95 and xfce, everything else is too inconsistent

Form your own cult. Make a website in HTML1. Implement a git clone or just git for a unified project of retroware and retro computing aesthetic.
Fork this into coding, design, and hardware, with subforks for each and subprojects for each too.

Ideally you should end up with a retro looking system running on RISC-V-ULP that can use assembly or C only to emulate or implement and port all old software or make more.
Make all of your hardware IEEE802X compliant for all the newer standards and ATX compliant as well so people can build their own.

Blue is perhaps the best neutral color for highlighting.

bring back dither

I'm working on it lads

no thanks, github is plagued with the nu-age shitware we call metro design. If its not win95 like or a dos terminal, i wont touch it. You stupid silicon valley niggers are the plague of earth.

Any good themes for windows 10 that brings back this old school aesthetic?

Including icons etc

Pervert. Win 3.11 for workgrpups is the last pure OS.

Also, don't use "ethos" if you don't know what it means.

Would be better to make a linux DE, so actual people are going to use it.
Why reinvent the wheel.
Gnome and KDE suck ass. A fully functional Windows95 clone DE will be an instant shooting star.
The xclass widget set is pretty dope! (xclass.sourceforge.net/)

>Would be better to make a linux DE, so actual people are going to use it.
I don't care if anyone uses it, I'm making this for myself. :) If it's useful to someone else that's nice too.
>Why reinvent the wheel.
The wheel has become corporate and dull.

> I don't care if anyone uses it
So it's a completely wasted effort.
> The wheel has become corporate and dull.
A resurrection of the foxproject would be more helpful. And that is as anti-corporate as it gets.

whatever you say buddy

Since I have a real job and a gf I don't really have much time.
But making a Windows95 clone DE for X11 with the help of xclass would be a fun hobby.
Especially when major DEs like Gnome and KDE are screwing up since years.

I am married with a full-time job. I still have plenty of time for serious projects.
I'm sorry about your lack of time user. Maybe one day you'll have more of it.

Still like your project.
You can make a real difference If you introduce something radical, a feature Linux is never going to have and that will really set you apart:
A stable driver interface.

release bootable iso so I can test it in a vm thanks

Not gonna release ISO's anytime soon, but FWIW it's pretty easy to get it running in a VM, there are scripts that do all the work. It takes about 20-30 minutes to build the toolchain, but that's a one-time thing.

you guys know that equinox desktop environment already exists, right?

it's finished
why would it need updating?

change for the sake of change is why most software nowadays is absolute shite and that's the reason why this thread was made

I actually like this idea. Bring the simplicity and functionality of retro computers into the modern age with updated visuals and compatability.

Lets start a cult

get rid of the X button in newer GUI's, double clicking [-] works fine.

I like my X button
