i don't play games. i just watch anime, listen to music, try and be productive.

I have a laptop with a 2c/4t CPU and it's slow as hell when browsing the web. How can people even use these things? I see tons of people on Jow Forums who have even slower CPUs in their laptop than mine.
I also went from a i5-750 to a i7-2600K a few years ago and you'll notice the speed difference. Thank god for the advancement in technology.

I could do all my Programming work on a 2Core machine in VS incremental builds don't gain from multi threading. 70% off the time my PC is nothing more than a fancy typewriter. 4C sunnycove is the best SKU for work. 3900x has more ccx to ccx latency then my old ivy bridge. so real mt workloads scales better with Intel. any application which runs better on Ryzen than on Intel has no shared state and will run even better on GPU. Most old software like Oblivion will crash on ryzen duo race condition.

I rock a 3.9GHz i3-7100 hyperthreaded dualie, but I turn hyperthreading off because it's a security risk and I don't actually need it. The most stressful application I run is Firefox. I bought it because I know that the only thing I'm really feeling is single threaded performance and SSD speed, to upgrade from a 3.1GHz Phenom quad-core.

Every day I lament that I have a processor I would kill for a decade ago, to do tasks (display and edit images and text and occasionally video) that I could do just as well 2 decades ago, but our programming is so poor and bloated that it's actually necessary. I've just installed Kolibri (a 1.5MB operating system written purely in assembly) on my spare computer, it starts in about 5 seconds. A little bit limited though.

I assume you're talking about the Intel Core i7 980X, which isn't a decade old yet (it will be in early 2020), the FX 6100 didn't launch until over a year and half later in 2011 (only 8 years ago, not a decade ago)

In any case, a 980x looks like trash compared to the 9700k or 9900k.

I disagree. Ryzen 3600 seems like the best price:performance, and I don't think it being 6c/12t is really that detrimental. Plus if it actually ends up being a hindrance many years from now, you can always do a very inexpensive upgrade to a higher-end Ryzen 3000 or 4000 series by then.

The i7 980x came out in march 2010. That's not 10 years ago, that's 9 years ago.

And the next 6 core CPU was the FX 6100 in late 2011. Making it only 8 years old.
