Daily reminder to praise Dubu.
Lady wasn't THAT bad.
Gavin Wright
eh, i didn't like it. i thought the worst list was a cop out in general. not one song that i like made it in there and there were too many ballads and ultra nugus who are obviously going to suck ass.
but at least i got a few new songs to listen to from the best of list and got reminded of a few songs i'd forgotten about.
Logan Davis
i didn't listen to anything i hadn't already heard

Adrian Cook
it's best left forgotten imo.
>full paragraph analyses of each song is nice. you're not the writer, are you
no lol
Julian Reyes
okay. the deep anti-trophouse animus made me wonder.
Eli Robinson
no, i hated that for a while. can't remember when i first heard it though. i think it was a red velvet b-side back in 2016 and someone in the comments said the genre was called tropical house and it was easy to remember because so much of it sounds the same. there have been a few trop house tracks i've liked but mostly i can't stand it.
Josiah Price
does wonder girls' "i feel you" qualify as trop? did that kick start the trend? that was one of the first 80s retro concepts.
Asher Rivera
nah, that was just 80s retro stuff, which i think was the previous big trend before trop house but it lasted way less time and nothing springs to mind from that trend right now. it certainly wasn't as annoying though.
here's a couple of tracks that i think are really obviously trop house and should give you a clearer idea what it is
youtube.com
youtube.com
they're not as terrible as some others, but i'm not a big fan either. t-ara's last comeback was also trop house, but it was more toned down and less obvious which made it better
Cooper Wright
>i feel you
Reboot is 80s: the album
Christopher Reed
what was yoona doing here
Andrew Morgan
"I feel you" was a specific kind of 80s pop, like latinized miami dance pop, which is a step or two away from house, which was 80s music too (though not necessarily "trop house" which is just house with bloopy synths?). so they're both 80s revival forms in a way and wonder girls might have kick started that. it seemed out of left field at the time with that Robert Palmer video imagery.
Jackson Flores
robert palmer ie.

idk, it's possible, but in my opinion highly unprobable that i feel you caused the trop house wave. that particular kind of shitty house music has been popular in europop (and i think south america but i'm not sure) for like a decade before it started showing up in kpop. i think that's part of the reason it annoys me so much, because it reminds me of shitty songs i kept hearing on the radio. i think it's more likely that someone unwittingly started the trend with a shitty summer comeback he got from some euro producer and everyone started copying it.
but who's to say what was going on behind the scenes.
Ian Ortiz
I like zoo
can you recc me more red velvet?
Austin Diaz
what, you mean more b-sides you might not have heard or just more red velvet in general?
Levi Clark
we have different perceptions and associations. house makes you think of cheesy euro dance pop of the past couple decades, to me it's a specific 80s proto-techno dance/soul music from the US and its subsequent revivals. i've always been puzzled about where the trop fits in, and it could well be from the europop you mention.
Wyatt Cox
All I know from red velvet is ice cream cake
Kayden Cox
kot id get
Tyler Gomez
no, i understand what house is, i'm talking about tropical house in particular. i'm just saying that the kpop tropical house trend is more likely to be influenced by the more recent europop trop house crap as opposed to it being some natural progression from 80s inspired comebacks.
though i guess there's a case to be made for your point as well. if we take f(x) 4walls, which was sort of retroish house but not trop house exactly, as being at least in part inspired by i feel you, and then the red velvet trop house songs as being inspired from that (since they're also sm), i suppose it's possible it kind of did start with the wonder girls. if that's how it happened, that is.
Sebastian Gonzalez
well, for some title tracks you can try happiness, dumb dumb, rookie and for some b-sides cool world, beat that drum, mosquito.
if you like those, you can go ahead and listen to the entire the red album
Caleb Peterson
I'll give them a listen thanks
Actually I heard rookie before but it didn't register that it was red velvet :D
