i use gimp for basic post prod like retouching, cropping, compositing with text and things like that. it can do some things like unsharp mask and white balance adjustment if you're a casual who doesn't shoot raw and use separate raw developing software. just install the latest version so you're not stuck with some outdated garbage. but it's not suited for doctoring images. even with photoshop it's usually obvious if a pic was tampered with. if freetards ever say it's as good as photoshop they're trolling and/or mean that it can do what they need it to do, not that it's as good in general.
