Hey guys, I found my dads old 13-inch MacBook Pro from Mid 2009. I installed macOS Mojave on it and I was wondering if there was a way to make it run better and debloat it, or is that even possible? I am mostly familiar with Linux and Windows (Linux being my daily driver).
Mojave will run on 2GB RAM, there's really not much to debloat with macOS. If you want it to run a little better, try installing El Capitan; but I wouldn't go any lower than that. I just put El Capitan on a 2011 MacBook Air with 2GB RAM for that reason, but it's not that big of a boost, I might go to Mojave for the extra features.

Is there anyway to do shit like turning the shitty compositor off or fuckin with the UI more?
Lucas Long
Not really, you can disable some graphical effects though, which will help with general speed. Sys Prefs > Accesibility > Display. Also, download and install Onyx and it will let you tweak a little more beyond that without having to look up 100 terminal commands. titanium-software.fr/en/onyx.html
You got it user, I rather enjoy trying to get 10+ years out of Mac hardware.
William Brooks
Same, I hate how they stopped supporting the older machines and continued to make it slower and slower just because the hardware could handle it on newer machine. But then again mostly the tech illiterate use this shit so they don't care.
William Price
I like to make old PCs and phones work again. I never drop a device until the cost of repairing it surpasses the cost of buying a new one.
Juan Adams
>macOS is for tech illiterates This is what windows-using video game-playing queers actually believe, cringe
Memes are for children, please link an objective source that isn’t YouRube jewgle spyware. Most computer users use windows, an operating system that lacks basic features that have existed for decades that caters to the lowest common denominator of retard.
Dominic Martinez
>linking to luke smith as an example of a "tech literate" I'm embarrassed for you
Robert Adams
>mostly the tech illiterate use this shit so they don't care. macbooks are used a ton by programmers
Henry Hill
imagine using windows
"how do I ssh?" >install this 50MB program by X "how do I use FTP?" >install this 70MB program by Y "how do I generate an ssh key?" >install this 100MB program by Z "how do I compile this?" >install this 200MB program and let it install the following 20 libraries
Julian Foster
So is Windows and Linux, whats your point?
Mason Perez
Be careful, don’t confuse the winbaby too much. If you start using too many acronyms they might start deflecting with “muh games” and “muh chrome”
Christopher Bailey
I don't I just used it a lot before. >I am mostly familiar with Linux and Windows (Linux being my daily driver) >Linux being my daily driver
Henry Foster
Windows is literally only used by children, gamers (same as children), office slaves, and tech illiterate boomers
Camden Rodriguez
>daily driver please drive yourself off a cliff
Carson Long
not an argument
Zachary Perry
Linux is not an OS
Brayden Young
Nor is a YouRube video an argument, google spyware using homo
Lincoln Stewart
>youjew spyware lol >ignores every point in the video ok retard
Joshua Nguyen
I didn’t watch the video, as I do not use any google product or service, much less YouRube. Please take your schizophrenia meds and learn to form coherent arguments on your own without using a YouRube video as your entire response.
Michael Flores
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
Ethan Martinez
maybe he didnt watch it because he correctly pointed out that youtube is spyware
Tyler Ward
>doesn't just look it up on invidio.us brainlet
Jackson Smith
> debloat there's no such thing in macOS, all you can do is install an SSD and you're good to go.
Ayden Perez
Using any alternative to YouRube is still indirectly accessing or utilizing a google product or service. It’s sad how there are people on Jow Forums who do not take things like this seriously. Cringe zoomer.
>ssh powershell >ftp built into explorer since time immemorial >100mb program brainlet >compiling you don't need visual studio to compile programs, and don't even start with libs when it's the same bullshit everywhere.
Jackson Carter
>invidio.us botnet literally how?
Kayden Hughes
>powershell The absolute state of tech illiterate retards
Jose Diaz
good first steps: > add more ram > put in an SSD desperate measures: > disable animations > disable siri and spotlight
Jacob Torres
I already know all that but in terms of software I was wondering how to make it run better besides what the other user said ().
Matthew Price
any terminal made by microshit is 100% crap in terms of usability and features, id sooner use a bare TTY its a free service meaning you, the virgin in this situation, are the product ;)
Kayden Nelson
It uses JewTube's embedded player.
Gavin Phillips
imagine not using ublock origin and noscript... Are you retarded?
Gavin Walker
>duh duh blocking malicious elements means it’s fine to use malicious software It’s sad how zoomers have no backbone
Angel Evans
the player itself doesnt track you unless there is other google shit on the site.
Blake Howard
both of these add more uniqueness to your fingerprint which google can and will track imagine using these extensions and not knowing what they actually mean for you
Cooper Hall
It doesn’t matter if it tracks you or not, you are still promoting YouRube by watching a video that was uploaded to their site.
Landon Butler
>implying thousands upon thousands of people don't use ublock or noscript Man that foot print must be very "unique"
Christian Ross
Yeah because a player not showing the ads that make them money is supporting them. Ok schizo boomer. Get with the times old man.
Thomas Ward
Nice argument. Literally what is missing from PowerShell that is necessary to be usable?
Just have sex and use youtube incel. YouTube doesn't care about your porn history retard.
Christian Miller
browser fingerprint is a combination of extensions, screen geometry, HTTP headers, fonts, timezones, rendering, and browser options any youtube DOM loaded by your browser directly accesses youtube on your behalf, invidio does not broker the connection ;)
Samuel Adams
Sounds like a lot I can just easily change in my settings so they don't track me. And how does DOMs support them?
Chase Taylor
On top of that if you care so much how come you use macOS? Apple tracks everything you do so why care?
Gavin Perez
it's not bloated in the first place, uninstall all the third party shit you have installed and you're good to go
Gabriel Barnes
Third party shit? Like what?
Aiden Adams
please explain how changing any of those from their default settings makes you less unique! loading an embedded youtube element makes a request directly to google HQ ;)
i use gnu+linux ;)
Evan Bell
Because it's not real info they can track me with that's why. Isn't the whole point of all this is to be not tracked?
Angel Martinez
"how do I ssh?" >ssh is built in. cmd.exe ssh "how do I use FTP?" >ftp is built in. cmd.exe ftp "how do I generate an ssh key?" >powershell -> Install-Module -Force OpenSSHUtils;ssh-keygen "how do I compile this?" >install this 200MB program and let it install the following 20 libraries, just like in Linux based OS.
Where in that post did I imply otherwise, work on your English reading comprehension or fuck off of my American website ESL faggot
Nathaniel Peterson
Yeah and I bet you have 7 proxies to hide behind too.
Nicholas Baker
any os will run smoothly on 2012 hardware, granted it's on ssd
Benjamin Jackson
>terminal emulator
Oh no no no
Learn more, freetard.
FYI Powershell is way better than bash, if you ask.
Owen Jenkins
Reddit spacing, kill yourself. The only money you can make though windows is by using your “windows pc” to prostitute yourself online, jobless faggot
Asher Williams
>uses tor >made by the government ok pedo lol
Joshua Lopez
>FYI Powershell is way better than bash, if you ask. t. Minimum wage retard
Alexander Baker
>made by the government If you believe that being made by the government implies that it is insecure, then clearly you have zero computer science background and lack even a surface understanding of how exit nodes work
Parker Baker
good lord powershell is so fucking bad
Adrian Cook
the average botnet slave when faced with TTPs necessary to be safe online will always resort to ironic humor ;) cmd is a terminal emulator and the latter statement is heavily dependent on what OS you are using, Windows being inferior......so by transitive property powershell is also inferior ;)
Austin Rivera
Lemme fix that for you >Ah yes if you believe fed created software is insecure then ur just dum lol! tor is so secure Just fuck real women, not toddlers pedo
Julian Brown
Freetards attacking the person after they have nothing to rebut against the OS.
Please learn English or get off the internet, tech illiterate retard
Jacob Wood
TOR network is used around the world in areas where censorship threatens human rights though a basement dweller such as yourself wouldn't know this ;)
Alexander Morgan
CMD is a command interpreter, it uses it’s own logic to call syscalls.
*nix emulates terminal(tty) on their consoles.
Can’t freetards actually learn other than shilling and humiliating themselves and their os?
Aiden Diaz
Okay schizo. Have fun with your pedo tor chatrooms.
Anthony Perry
I don’t use any chatrooms over tor, I simply manage several tor exit nodes and have tor mirrors for all of my websites. Please go back to your minimum wage job, this is a board for people who understand technology.
Michael Lee
If you haven't already you should upgrade to an SSD. Also get more memory. 8GB is the minimum to run macOS comfortably. But seriously, an SSD will be the best upgrade. macOS is slow as shit when you run it off an HDD. And for the love of god, stop using Firecucks. That shitty browser eats memory like crazy and you only have 4GB. Use Safari.
why would I waste time learning an operating system I have never used or needed? ;)
David Russell
not an argument
Jaxson Garcia
And how is it unusable? Post specific examples or STFU.
Elijah Sullivan
It is an argument, using nonstandard commands and having to install basic features that have been standard for decades is in violation of NIST standards
Isaac Campbell
Umm, let’s guess. To criticize?
Why criticize the os that you haven’t used or don’t need?
Lemme guess, are you a neat freetard shiller that distrohopps every week doing nothing productive on the computer?
John Davis
cant resize properly, certain key sequences dont get passed properly, command history isnt saved across sessions, etc. ;^) I use Debian and am a senior SOC analyst and my only exposure to windows is typically reading about how insecure it is (not even as an OS, just the protocols in the windows ecosystem in general) ;)
Kevin Russell
>nonstandard commands and having to install basic features that have been standard for decades Windows isn't UNIX you utter fucking moron. Holy shit just kill yourself, you're clearly miserable if this is what you do for fun.
Jack Moore
>Windows isn't UNIX thats why it sucks wincuck
Hudson Butler
>windows isn’t UNIX then it’s unusable and a toy OS, stallman said it best: > I didn't single out Microsoft. In fact, Microsoft had nothing to do with it in the beginning. Microsoft in 1983 made a toy operating system for toy computers, and I hardly paid any attention to it.
Ethan Butler
A preference isn't objective opinion. Go back to spamming the Stallman pasta.
Liam Wright
>Security analyst >not using, haven’t used or don’t need windows i.e. no exposure to windows
