Practically all tech is made in China however the companies are in USA, so USA companies are putting their markup on products that take almost nothing to make. In this case the entire company is all China making it cheaper.

The tech is plateauing in a measurable way to consumers. Screens are ridiculously high res now, OLED everywhere, most high end phones have more than enough RAM for current use, the camera quality on flagships is pretty much as good as most normal users are going to care about.
There just isn't any big leaps coming that impress people enough to want to upgrade constantly anymore. It's not like 2009 where being a gen behind could honestly feel like using a stone age phone. The difference between a 2018 flagship and a 2020 flagship is just not going to be mind blowing for the average consumer.
Now combine a feeling of stagnating progress with a removal of features on a regular basis and the average consumer is going to look at this and see "So the new phone looks and runs about identically to my current one, but now it has no headphone jack and can't use a microSD card?" And that outlook is not going to sell anything.

Input lag is VERY noticeable in terms of responsiveness of the device.
Mediated based devices for very long time had AWFUL input lag, I am sure that up to Helio P10 it was cosmic level of lag. Newer sub 300USD devices with MTC SoC also have disappointing lag, can’t say anything bout more expensive models.
Try to use SGS8 or never, then Huawei Play or P Smart and then iPhone 5/S/6 or any other never iPhone.
I guarantee that Galaxy and iPhone will have 100x better touch response and any scrolling or typing will be ungodly good in comparison.
Even simple thing as pinch to zoom is way better on more expensive Samsung and Apple device.
Because of this simple thing I am biased towards Galaxy and iPhone. I have to try Mi9 and p30 to see if anyone made any progress.
