Inevitable Win7 to 10 Upgrade

>Wanted to stay on win7 forever
>Huge sale in local chain for Ryzen 3600
>25% off brand new CPU
>RAM on sale on newegg

I upgraded. But now I must go to windows 10 so I upgraded existing OS to try and grab a CD key to use for fresh reformat....its not there.
Wat do?

If I used a windows loader for my win7 key all those years ago, and it says I have a 'legit' digital license for my win10 upgrade I just did (bless you media creation tool)...am I safe to tie it to my Microsoft account, so that I shall "keep a legit copy of win10 available after the reformat"?

Or would I be better off just installing the new parts, reformatting, installing windows 7, using loader, installing all win7 updates, then upgrading to win10 again that way

I have no fucking idea what you're inquiring about, you uneducated goat fucker.

I am on Windows 7.
I must upgrade to Windows 10, as Ryzens do not work on 7.

My windows 7 copy was 'validated' by a windows loader.

Want to know if its safe to tie the windows 10 upgrade to my microsoft account (AKA No risk of problems for me or my account) or am I better off just reformatting for the new parts, reinstalling/re-cracking windows 7, and upgrading to 10 a second time.

Don't buy ryzen, problem solved.

Install gentoo, fag

>Linux

Ah yes, because so many games support it.

Either install an operating system that respects your freedom, or associate your key with a Microshit account. A tech support pajeet can activate your copy of Windows so long as you have a legitimate key, and prove that you purchased your new CPU/Mobo.

>Ryzens do not work on 7
I'm posting this with a 2700X on Windows 7.

Actually, yes. Pretty much every everything but PUBG works on Linux, thanks to the WINE team, Valve, and Doitsujin.

Ryzens are not officially supported on Windows 7.

The only way to get it working on windows 7 is usually through a hobble cobble of things.

Once you activate a windows 10 install with an oem or retail key, that hardware is permanently licensed and registered, so if you fresh install it activates as soon as you go online. I don't know if you can transfer that with the account connection thing, but it's worth a try.

Believe me if I could stay on win7 for my main rig, I would.

Too many things that I do or parts I am about to use require win10 officially/for stability.

In all likelihood, my secondary rig I will be making in a few weeks or months will keep on win7. No reason to install win 10 on more devices than minimally needed.

It wasnt activated with OEM/Retail, it was done through Media Creation Tool via the "free win7 upgrade" dealio.

Says I have a "digital license", but obviously its not tied to my microsoft account.

I dont want to tie them together until I'm 100% sure I won't be putting my account at risk, as I said previously my win7 was made "legitimate" through a loader.

I know they used to have a 'free upgrade handwave even illegal' policy but that was a few years ago so not sure if id still be safe, so to speak.

>jumped ship to manjaro first to get familiar with lunix, and then arch later
should have done it sooner
wine and proton are good enough for the occasional vidya I play

Unless you are only playing braindead rooty tooty looty shooty niggery, then yes.
Fuck off back to zoomer.

Just get a PS/2 keyboard, zoomer

A 7>10 upgrade is basically the same thing.
The hardware is activated by the mobo/cpu's unique identifiers that are sent to Microsoft the first time you go online with an unactivated install.

If you're referring to Fortnite, PUBG, CoD n such no I don't really play them.

I do play a healthy number of indies that are windows only. Im sure some could work with WINE or DXVK or w/e, but honestly I use my linux for tech minded things;
managing files, fixing tech problems, quick boots for when windows is being a shit.

Its not really a OS I like to game on, no matter how much/little fuckery I have to do to get things working.

I have one. DESU I'd just rather have stability than fucking around with unsupported potentially unstable software/hardware mixes.

Spent enough of my life doing that shit since windows 98, Id rather not have to keep doing it if I dont have to.

>indies
the most likely to have linux ports or work flawlessly on proton.
Stop being a lazy fuck.

So if I understand you right, does that mean this essentially IS a legit win10 install?

AKA my having used win7 loader is irrelevant, and I'm safe to tie it to my Microshit account so its easier to reinstall win10 after reformat?

I had to do this even though I don't have a Ryzen, I just happened to have a PS/2 keyboard so it worked out

would this work with a PS/2 mouse too, or no one knows because they've been completely obsoleted by laser mice?

>So if I understand you right, does that mean this essentially IS a legit win10 install?

Yup.
You don't even need to tie your account to it if you're using the same hardware, as soon as you go online it will activate based on the hardware's unique identifiers being registered with MS.

Not the same hardware;

Upgrading from a FX-6300 and GIGABYTE 970 UDP motherboard with DDR3 ram to a Ryzen 3600 with TOMAHAWK B450 mobo with DDR4 ram.

I'm just explaining how this works normally. I've never tried to transfer an activation in this way, nor have I ever used the account key linking. I'm just saying it's worth a try.
If it doesn't work you can still plug any win7 key into 10 and it will activate it just like it did your current one.

Worst case you can buy an activation for that hardware for 99 bucks in the MS store.

Meanwhile I'm still using XP.
The sky isn't going to fall just because you're fucking operating system loses support, that's just shill talk.
And no assholes I'm not going to use windows 10. Fuck telemetry and fuck you.

Clarification: any win7 key that hasn't already been used for a 10 install.

>load iso using ntlite
>insert usb drivers
>build iso
>install
Was that so hard, fucking retard?

Install gentoo or kys

I would install W10 on a junk drive and verify your MS account is tied properly. Also, don't upgrade all your parts in one sitting. Adding a new CPU may flag it as a new machine. It's not supposed to, but it happens.

>load iso using ntlite>insert usb drivers>build iso>install
What is this shit?
Use dism you subhuman.

>dism
how do I use this to ONLY install the motherboard and USB drivers? I already have the OS installed previously, but I manually uninstalled the motherboard's related drivers since I moved computers

Yes, OP, if you have used a loader for Win7, you can get a legit version of Win10 for free and tie it to your MS account with no issue, because it's effectively generating a new digital "key" based off your hardware - it has nothing to check against for hanky-panky.

install win7 i just went back to it because win10 was pissing me off

csgo has a linux port and thats the only good game

>just run an inferior interface so you can keep using a buggy, overrated gamer OS for underaged who don't remember Win2000
Okay reddit, gonna post about how great the N64 is next?

finally someone gets it

Windows 10 enterprise 1903 is the best Windows since 2000.
Windows 7 was never good, it was just Vista but slightly newer.

Out of curiosity, what happens if/when a Microsoft account is found/accused of having a win10 key thats not legit or earned through "hanky-panky"?

Do they ban account? Strip the win10 key? Like is there any actual penalty that anyone knows of?

7 was fantastic tho....

2000 was good. I enjoyed 2000. 98 was great. XP was bae for the longest time. I was on XP from like 01 until 2010. Best 9 years of PC gaming I've ever had.

No, use a local account, never sign in using a microsoft account, unless you want to be bombarded with onedrive messages...

Doesn't windows 7 lack some of the recent optimizations that 10 has? Also, can you still use 7 even with zen2?

>Just get a PS/2 keyboard, zoomer
Can't get PS/2 flash drives and the like.

>2000 + 19
>not using win 2000 with the kernel patch
okay retard

>Wanted to stay on win7 forever
>Huge sale in local chain for Ryzen 3600
>25% off brand new CPU
>RAM on sale on newegg
It's not like you couldn't have gotten a more powerful CPU than your current one that would still work on Windows 7.
Just shows your blatant consumerism and weak-will. Enjoy your botnet.

Who said so? You could still run dos if you wanted to. This retarded argument that "New processors don't support old software" tell me you know jack shit on the workings of the very hardware you're buying, maybe you're better of with Apple.

Yes. Because I'm going to find a CPU reasonably more powerful than a FX-6300 that isnt AM4 or equivalent without it being noticeably overpriced or moderately difficult to find in stock anywhere.

Plus, i'd just need to upgrade again in like a year or 2 anyway; hella inefficient use of money.

Good luck finding drivers for your ryzen dos build

Nothing lasts forever op.

>am I safe to tie it to my Microsoft account,
MS doesn't care, really.
unless you live in United Socialist States of America.
but then, burgers are lucky they elected Trump.
so, yeah, go ahead upgrading, MS has no way to prove your win 7 isn't legit.

why tf do you need an ms account they are just trying to trick you into thinking you do. if it's cuz you need to download stuff from the store you can just hit cancel when they ask for login and it still works

>ITT tech boomers cling to unsupported and obsolete operating systems
Meanwhile I'm using 10 LTSC and it just works

Just get Ubuntu

>you can just hit cancel when they ask for login and it still works
yes, you are right. i have literally never used any MS account.

but maybe it is needed to upgrade windows.
i man i clean install from torrented isos and use toolkit or anything else to activate so i don't really know about ms account and key binding.

Because I downloaded the win10 upgrade on my current fx-6300 build. The only way to 'keep' the key is to either use one of a myriad of 3rd party programs (none of which im versed in) to dig into registry and find the win10 key (or win7 key if it transferred it, w/e)

OR

tie this win10 'license' to my microsoft account, allowing me to re-install it with 0 issue (theoretically) when I hook up my ryzen set up instead and reformat HDD.

Why the fuck are you even upgrading from that? Many people here from what I've seen are still rocking the i5-2500k or the i7-2600k.

Right now I'm moving my brothers compter from a 2500k to an AMD 2700 CPU. He wants me to clone his current SSD to the new system since he got his files on there and doesn't want windows 10.

Do I just have to use a ps/2 keyboard and manually uninstall and install the motherboard and usb drivers?

use ame

go to majorgeeks.com and search for windows CD key they have clean utilities without spam and malware
