Lots of the hives of pcmr 15 year olds constantly shit on A320 whenever someone brings it up, I've never really understood the hatred for the low end chipsets.
If you're not gonna OC and don't really need the physical expansion options of the better chipsets, why not go with A320?
it's a better investment to get B450
For what purpose if the features won't be used

usually the A320 series boards are literally $10 less than a comparable B450 board. B450 boards are usually far superior in the VRM and expansion department. It comes down to what you're getting for the money. However at proper pricing, I've seen A320 chipset boards for sub $50. That's the sort of thing you go for. My buddy built his R7-1700 on an A320 board with 2x16GB of 2400MHz memory as a dirt cheap editing machine.

I'm literally doing jack shit on my pc, new games don't interest me that much, maybe RE2 remake, we'll see how cyberpunk turns out. I do wish I could run Tekken at Ultra settings though. And emulate PS3, that would be nice. Productivity is a non-factor since most I do is run Altium from time to time for simple side projects. Upgrade would be a waste.

Because if I'm going to upgrade I want to do it all proper like, at least r5x and something in the range of current 5700xt. Prices in my country are ~25% higher than their US counterparts so yeah $2k sounds about right. Well maybe $1500.

Lincoln Wood

Thing about zen2 is the sensors are reporting the hottest core temp instead of the junction temp. That's why most monitoring software report high temps while the actual chip isn't actually that hot. Latest version of Ryzen Master fixed this.

The 7nm technology of zen2 has very high energy density. That's why the temperature might get high locally while the rest of the chip isn't getting hot at all.

Alexander White
Alexander White

1. Yes, it has all the correct mATX holes
2. Yes, you CAN fit a full sized video card in it. It just rides RIGHT UP against the ram slots. See the pic I have, its a Rx-570. It is literally touching the RAM slot, but it DOES fit. BARELY.

He really isn't. The 8350 will bottleneck an RX 580 in a ton of games at 1080p. I used to own essentially that combo with an overclocked 8320E and an R9 290X and the CPU resulted in godawful lows a lot of the time. Selling it and buying a 4790K was a relief.

what's the best way to put together a modern pc in terms of the order of putting the parts into the case? psu then mobo with cpu already connected then plug things in? add cpu cooler before or after the mb is in the case? what works best for cable management?

Anthony Long
Anthony Long

Socket CPU and RAM
Install mobo, wire up front panel
Install PSU, wire up atx and cpu power
Install/wire fans, then heatsink.
Install/wire drives
Install/wire GPU
RGB last.

Daniel Ross
Daniel Ross

To add to this, after installing GPU, turn on computer, install OS and drivers, THEN RGB. RGB last, after everything else is working right:

Install/wire fans, then heatsink.
why heatsink at this point? dont you have to access the back of the mb/case?

Nathaniel Flores
Nathaniel Flores

Majority of cases have a cutout for the back of the heatsink. Doing it at this point ensures all your clearances are met. If your case does not have a back of mobo cut out, install heatsink after socketing RAM.

I've built 4 3700/3900 systems and after the second gave up on the stock hsf. If you can't hear them there's something wrong with your ears. Anything over 20% rpm the fan creates annoying fan noise and even with fan curve smoothing users complained about it. With the noctuas you can barely hear it even when running occt.
