redpill me on the t460s
they're quite cheap but i rarely see discussion on them

It's now 3am and i can't decide on an affordable thinkpad with enough power to get, somebody please help my budget is roughly £200-£300 bongbux

I'm pretty happy with my X201. Any way to make it run cooler on windows? Fan noise just bugs me out.

X200t gang! love mine, all it needs is a battery and HDD cover

Attached: IMG_2475.jpg (4032x3024, 3.7M)

Based.

They're not really talked about because they're "nu-pads". Eg; they still cost a decent bit and they've lost the charm (as well as many of the features) IBM-era and early Lelnono pads have.

Attached: thinkfamily.jpg (2777x1851, 2.02M)

heres the back of my tablet, just a bash sticker and thats it

its really nice, i really love that it doesnt have a touchpad for some reason

Attached: IMG_9558.jpg (4032x3024, 971K)

Where do you find the trackpad-less x201 on the left?

theyre pretty rare, but if you want to de-trackpad an X201/S/T iirc you can swap in the palmrest from an X200/S/T that doesn't have the touchpad

(It's a X200 with a X201's head) But yeah, what he said.

How much power do you need? In the US at least you could get a t440p for less than $200, and an i7-4700mq for about $70. A quad core in a t440p is very powerful.

Hey Jow Forumsentooman I want to invest in an x220 on eBay.
You got any tips before I buy or stuff I should consider afterwards?

I came for the Twinks. All I see are Chinkpads. YOU LIED TO ME OP!

>neckbeards abusing power
That’s all of Linux. Over the course time i just switched to BSD. The license seems to keep the nerds abused in high school away. It’s like the Wild West. The actual freedom scares them away, back to the anuls of Linux. They use their position to take out whatever hurt they’ve been holding onto on anybody that reminds them of their abusers. Instead of facing the issues. The bsd crowd just seem more laid back, it’s still about the love of programming instead of elitistism. It’s not a badge to be worn yet. It’s not an Apple logo. Lenovo seemed to attract the hipster crowd. The systems run Linux very well. It goes hand in hand. It’s why i just use Windows or bsd.

Let’s say I’ve removed the whitelist, what’s the best possible WiFi card I can throw in the T440P?

I don't have much knowledge about x220s so I would caution the usual ebay tips. This is obvious but just in case make sure to check the listing thoroughly, look at every picture, read the description. Make sure there is nothing missing like a battery or ram and make sure it looks like it is in the condition you want. Good luck

>god tier laptop

any other anons here hare have reached the peak thinkpad?
got this chinkboard + lcd display for £450

Attached: qewrt.jpg (2933x3911, 1.41M)

Only 1 RAM stick, no TB3, 4GB soldered in most models, many have 768p TN screens. Unless is a very good deal on a 8GB soldered/FHD IPS model don't bother.

What are the upgrades you've done?

i7-8650u quadcore
1920-1200 lcd display

In more modern days, I am preferring Latitudes over the coveted Thinkpad. I hate the 'unipad' wannabe macbook style they're pushing. unipad sucks balls, and they feel janky. I loved my T61p, and I had a T520 for a little while that I liked, last time I was at my pc distributor, I started fingerfucking the newer lenovos he had, and fuck.. they suck ass. The keyboards don't seem to sit flat, and the whole board is flexing when you type, the 'island style' keys are spaced too far apart, and I hate the 'shield' shape some of them utilize. The plastic feels like the cheap shitass HP from walmart plastic. Some of the keyboards are fucking stupid as fuck to pull / replace sliding the plastic between the keys down and exposing screws.

Latitudes are a little bit nicer looking, but generally eaiser to work on in my experience.

nice bait faggot go back to >>>/reddit/

Have any of you used an eGPU with your Thinkpad?

Can you post the rightmost pape?

is the i7-2760QM better than the i7-2820QM? the 2820 runs hot on my T420 and I'm too scared to fuck up my board trying to get a ivy bridge processor to work in it.

uwu

Is it possible to find a genuine synaptics t450 pad? All i see is alps or chinese knock offs pretending to be synaptic pads.

Anywhere I can buy a T420 slice battery for less than 80 bucks? Ali express and Ebay don't have them, Amazon has them for 80-100 bucks

Attached: fat_mythra.jpg (492x489, 68K)

Do you have links or model numbers for the screen and board?

nbparts on amazon

Have an old X201 in perfect condition and unlimited budget. How to optimize performance and NSA-proof it? My biggest concern is the i5 processor.

AX200

I know it isnt a twinkpad but what does /tpg/ think of the elitebook 8460p? I've used them before IRL and they seem ok, theyre pretty cheap on ebay too. can they be hackintoshed?

thanks!

Also has anyone considered adding a heatsink to the DGPU heat sink on a integrated laptop? Im told the DGPU will fit the integrated models and ad a slight bit of cooling but what if you add a heat sink to the copper plate and a small fan? might be able to use a higher tdp.

Why do you need 3 laptops for?

why not?

how would i accquire a thinkpad X210? they seem like really cool laptops and i want one

would it be possible to swap the x220 palmrest for the x200 trackpadless one?

I have a x200, x201t, x220, x301, t400s, t400, t440p, and a w700ds.
Most of them are lying in a pile at a corner cause I can't use more than two at a time.

They stopped taking orders or producing the motherboard, the only choice is to get them off someone. Chinks being chinks are fucking scalpers, cheapest I've seen is double the original price. I'll need to get a friend in China to buy it for me and ship it back.

>he can't use more than two at a time

>w700ds
is the secondary screen on that thing usable or is it just a meme?

lel

It's a regular TN panel flipped 90 degrees so viewing angles are horrible, not bad for watching something while playing games though, I only play FFXIV and the GPU is more than enough for it.

Sick, I believe you but any source or is this just common knowledge?

T570 here. Really like it so far. Putting my T500, T510 and T540p to rest. Sadly, the comfiness levels of older models are not there. As other anons said: The keyboard is not too bad; very quiet.

>putting my T540p to rest

wanna give it to me user?

Hey guys I have a T440p and I am wondering if I should upgrade to 16gb from 8, or if I should get an IPS display.

hmm, 8gb is honestly enough for most people user. consider IPS, its much better

Younger brother had a 2015 macbook pro from school which has now died. He needs a replacement laptop.
What could I grab which would be roughly equivalent (or better)?

Attached: file.png (259x194, 125K)

First get 1080p IPS
Then get a quad core (if you don't already have one
Then get 16gb ram

Oh, and get a T450 touchpad at some point

For me it's the X220, the cutest ThinkPad

Damn okay if the IPS is really that worth it I'll get it first. lmao I already have a 4980hq that was like $150 USD and now that I've started college I'm trying to save.

I have a Dell Precision M4800 that's decently specced out. However it's rather power hungry and I'm really looking to get something that sucks less juice but still performs well. Has anyone had any luck with the newer AMD based laptops? Stuff like the A485 and A285

sup, brehs? i got my r400 but i experience screen tearing on both windows and linux alike. see pic for some info. do any of you know how to fix this?
yeah, they're cool.

Attached: Screenshot from 2019-08-24 10-56-41.png (1280x800, 688K)

It is okay to get a compatible IPS if it says it has 72 gamut? Im a screen nigger so I don't know much about them

What do you think of t450's? are they good? Or is it better to go for a t440 instead?

Oh forgot details.
>location
Australia
>budget
$1000 but less is more

He just uses it for school so doesn't need to be fancy.

I usually just fix intels tearing with tearfree option in the xorg.conf.d. You could also try tweaking with your wm or installing compiz but that always somehow felt very inefficient fix when compared to the xorg one.

T440s reporting in. It's good to have nailed a laptop for once in my life.

Holy shit, that's the most based post in a while.

Best place for buying working thinkpads in Australia? I'm guessing ebay, are there any other places I'm overlooking?

Or worse, he could be French.

Awesome setup, and collection, user.

Can someone shed some light on t410? Can get used one for 90 euro, but not really sold on it.

Buy him another macbook unless you want him to be another virgin incel shooter.

is it normal that the X220 fans are constantly on and on full speed? And when I turn on tpfancontrol it hovers around 80° while doing nothing. Can you replace the thermal paste or something if that helps?

if the t450 isn't much more expensive you get way better U-processors and you get the dedicated mouse buttons on the touchpad back, unless you want to upgrade everything, I think then the t440p is better

I think for not much more you should be able to get a T420/T430 which are much more modern machines, the jump from 1st gen Intel Core i to Sandy Bridge alone is a huge improvement

Open it up and clean everything, replace the thermal paste and make a proper fan curve and it will run reasonably cool

Peak comfy, better port selection than the T420/430 but the processor is quite long in the tooth now and there's no real reason to get a 410 over 420/430 if you don't care about the 16:10 screen ration

You could have luck on gumtree as well. I personally got mine from ebay.

Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
(Ignore the shit on top, it's the only pic I have on my without identifying shit on screen)

Attached: IMG_20190220_054116326.jpg (3120x4160, 2.79M)

Anybody ever done a T420/430 mobo swap into a T410 chassis? I like the comfy 16:10 and classic keyboard but want something a bit more modern in terms of CPU.

Good luck with the ports. You're better off trying to swap the panel and bezel.

Clean your fucking computer merciful fuck, and stop watching spastic hour with steven crowder

>X200 with an 8th gen quad core and hidpi IPS
this is literally the perfect laptop
where did you get the board?

Any thinkpad that can support opengl 3.0 renderer or should I just forget about it?

How long does your battery last with all that? Are you bound to an outlet?

>wanna fall for the Thinkpad meme
>but my toaster laptop is still running okayish.
I want one and I feel like I'm missing out but the back of my head keeps telling me not to further spend on things I don't really need.

Attached: 1562423939386.png (302x257, 36K)

Any particular tips for buying aftermarket/third party batteries, or is it as simple as just taking a look at the seller reviews?

I did clean it and boy did it brought a new quality to my life. Thanks for suggesting.

How do I stop being so neurotic over battery life? There are outlets pretty much everywhere why am I so worried?
Started at 88%, battery dropped to 54% in 1 hour and 20 minutes from writing and a little browsing.

Is there anywhere i can view potential upgrades for a specific model e.g. w540?

looking at replacing a gpu on one

>my battery keeps dying
>it runs too hot!
>can I play age of empires 2 without upgrading my RAM?
>at least my keyboard is the old style heh
>yeah I switched from ubuntu to mint to gentoo because my anime background looks better
>no I cant have firefox and excel open at the same time I only have 4 gigs of ram
>check out that enter key
>thicc lol
>if I choose to mod it, it could be fast

You guys realize a you can get a p50/51 for like $600 used on Ebay? Why spend the same money upgrading a pos that will never be fast?

It's a tool, not a lifestyle. You guys are worse than reddit sometimes...

What's the consensus on the Thinkpad x240? I'm planning on getting one as my first Thinkpad.

x220 - i5-2520M 4GB
any ideas for the second ThonkPad?

always depends on the condition and price compared to the x230 and x250
a straight forward ThinkPad, though it has the 4th gen U-processors and lacks the dedicated mouse buttons on the trackpad which might be annoying depending on how often you use the trackpoint.

If you just do basic web browsing and coding the U processor shouldn't be an issue.
If the lack of mouse buttons really annoy you, you can easily replace it with an x250 trackpad

Thanks for the info. I'm currently discussing the price with the owner due to the fact that his x240 is really worn out, looks like the screen is fine but the rest is really worn, so I'm not entirely sure.

But thanks for the heads up anyways.
