The teamspeak server that they were using died one day, thankfully they all ruled out discord.
Set up a mumble server literally two days after it went down, set permissions to something sensible, and made a few people other than me mod.

A few people logged on initially and now we're all meeting on some random ts server that belongs to a planetside outfit.

Same thing for the matrix server I set up to host a team chat for a Uni project.
