These days, a PC can usually play what a PS4 can play (apart from mostly first party titles but most of those arent even THAT good anyway) because exclusivity in the consolw market is going extinct. Even Microsoft killed their own console and decided to just port everything to PC regardless if it's first party or not, though the Xbox doesn't really have that many games.

The market is too competitive and consumers too aware. Sony also has too many products and probably too much R&D costs for niche stuff
For example they still release and sell MP3 players, not just the $500+ audiophile ones, but also below $200 "budget" devices, that are often inferior. have weird gimmicks that probably cost thousands to develop and proprietary cables, and that basically applies to almost all of their audio and video products

I think a large aspect is the lack of coordination between their departments and race to the bottom. If Sony seriously integrated their tech and media departments, kept their stuff higher end and they could have had an ecosystem to beat most of their rivals.
