B) VPNs only shift the attack vector to your VPN, which could be even worse than your ISP as VPNs have been known to sell data to 3rd parties

you've clearly never even looked at a dns configuration before. I have a local resolver that uses tls/https requests routed over a "fast" vpn and I have to traffic shape every packet to high priority queues just to make the latency bearable. most applications shit the bed when the dns doesn't resolve within 2 seconds. caching means jack fucking shit for the initial request.
