it is not dust, i cleaned the whole pc yesterday
>GPU problems
It's probably amd.
hey, its a rx 480, which i got for 60 bucks, good deal right? but seriously, help a brainlet out, what is the problem here?
thats how dust works, also clean your room
true, haven't cleaned my neet nest in a while
>rx480
It's been used for mining 24/7 for a couple of years, it was already on life support when you bought it
Getting a 480 at 60$ is not a bad deal but don't expect it to last several years , it was probably a mining card.
Does it work or you're just scared of the ""corrosion"" ?
no, it was sitting behind a glass panel in some shop, they recently crashed and were selling everything, bought some ssds and an 1tb barracuda hdd, total for 50 dolla.
it does work, i don't even know if it is corrosion, ive seen some corroded soldering before, this doesn't look like one, but nothing else comes to my mind. also it is not a mining card,
It's old stale solder flux that crystallised. You will be able to scratch it, but there's no need to.
probably the best explanation yet, is there a way to find out that it is crystallised sf for sure?
toothbrush + isopropyl alcohol ASAP and redo the weld spots if you have equipment or just sell it
i think i still have the warranty
>weld spots
you have no idea what youre talking about
its flux
leave it on
What is the purpose of solder flux?
In soldering of metals, flux serves a threefold purpose: it removes any oxidized metal from the surfaces to be soldered, seals out air thus preventing further oxidation, and by facilitating amalgamation improves wetting characteristics of the liquid solder.
^ some electronics basically gleam with that stuff all over ... not uncommon on gpu neither but looks weird if its only 1/2 spots
>MINING BAD
got any statistics to back up your meme, boys?
right
thought so
alright then, thank you.

a simple google search before shitposting would have saved you from looking like a retard.
who exactly looks like the retard here
you, doubly so now.
there's nothing in those links about second-hand mining cards' failure rate
re
tard
Tin doesn't corrode like iron, brainlets.
oh i thought you just didn't believe in miners buying up and dumping cards at all. in which case
>muh undervolting
>implying the average normie crypto miner would ever have half as much of a thought occur in his head
>muh bathtub curve
>implying 24/7 crypto mining is standard use
sadly I cannot provide failure rate statistics as required to fully shut you up because seemingly no one has gone to the effort of collecting the data. the closest i could find is one man's anecdotal 10% failure rate. reddit.com
tl;dr yeah if people weren't stupid maybe but they are and even if they weren't that's still 24/7 load.
stop cumming on your gpu user
And cards have been rated for 100c since forever as they make house fire cards
Consistent heat rather than hot/cold/hot/cold cycles logically seem like a better idea.
I bet at worst you're looking at the fan dying on a mining card.
And how did it get there my naive-minded young friend? Did it teleport behind the glass? Did someone put it there? What was it doing before it was kidnapped and put in a glass box?
it's still 24/7 use. I would assume constant temperature load can be as degrading as inconsistent temperature load given sufficient time at load. SETI used to eat up GPUs too for the same reasons.
>it's still 24/7 use
jokes on you, temperature cycling causes more damage
relative to what though, standard use? and how so as a function over time? needless to say though I wouldn't buy a used GPU from a gamer either, I won't argue temp cycling isn't bad.
I still think people are blowing a lot of paranoia smoke with mining cards.
R9 2xx series that's been mining for 4 years? Yea probably a bad choice
Rx 5xx series that's been mining for 1-2 years? Probably just fine. Plus check the manufacturers warranty period. If you buy a GPU at 30-40% original price and get a year of warrenty it's as much value as I'd expect.
> I wouldn't buy a used GPU from a gamer either, I won't argue temp cycling isn't bad.
So why present much of an opinion if you're not the type of person to buy a used card in the first place?
I've bought used my last 3 generations
warranty memery is a consideration. most warranties are void if mining was done, but you'd have to be an idiot to get caught out on that.
Because it's all
>gambler's fallacy
down to the bottom.
>pc store has pc parts on display
what a shocker
I'm loosing the battle on dust. I literally clean everything and 2 days later I can do it again. Am I doing something wrong?
yea you should stop caring, after a certain level of dust it stops building up
have you tried vacuuming your house regularly? facetious suggestions aside if you actually have acceptable cleaning routines make sure you're getting the details. central air? check your filters. dry, dusty climate? take your shoes off before walking around inside. got animals? brush them regularly. you know, shit like that.
>first article just states a bunch of GPUs were sold specifically to miners and how manufacturers, retail and consumers reacted
>second article states that with the crash on crypto and increasing cimplexity mining wasn't as good an idea
the guy you're replying to obviously asked about the physical effects of mining on GPUs and their lifespan, not what mining did to the market
Cum on it and see if it bursts in flames.
your card was baked and was covered in flux while doing that.
why the fuck you bought a fucking AMD card used by buttcoin miners jesus christ you retarded OP pajeet.
i shoot blanks
as i said, i was not used for mining, maybe read the fucking thread next time?
Try cleaning it with rubbing alcohol
Are those missing caps or it's it my imagination
dust mites brapping on your GPU.
Clean that residue before it affects the pcb coating.
It's pregnant
looks like dust. wipe with alcohol+lint free cloth
I'd rather buy some mining card that was undervolted and underclocked instead of buying some mouthbreathers card that had it OC and overvolted for months on end to play PUBG or whatever.
Clean your basement you fucking retard
>not using a static free brush
its maximum comf
This. I'd trust a miner owned card over a gaymurr owned card. Also, the GPU die and pcb are built like tanks. The mechanical fans will die before the electrical components do but it's stupid easy to replace GPU fans for cheap.
>Because it's all
>>gambler's fallacy
>down to the bottom.
Buying locally I've pretty much had people selling in good faith, upgrading to a newer or better card. All depends, pretty much everything disclosed.
*Shrugs* I got my 1060 for $180cdn when they were going for $280 retail and hasn't done anything wild.
I'll add, in Ontario is %14 sales tax so I usually pickup used just because of that.
That orange is rust/corrosion
Can I snort that
did you try to jump these lmfao
it shouldnt be solder flux. really SHOULD not. because after soldering, PCBs in this price range SHOULD be coated by a very thin epoxy film. unless the film is damaged (scratched), solder flux should not be able to oxidize.
>he doesnt know about tin whiskers
fuck leadfree solder
stop buying mining cards you fucking moron.
>I said it wasn't so it wasn't
It was
Oh what I would give if someone had the balls to say fuck the EU and fuck RoHS and make shit with leaded solder again
Lead free solder is why electronics became unreliable trash
Scratch it, if it turns into ugly orange/brown powder it's most certainly it.
It's not epoxy usually. Anyway, you're talking about conformal coating but that's a bit expensive and unneeded on any consumer product so they don't do it.
sorry, but i can not get a better shot. this is it after i scraped as much as i can.
Jow Forums - Tech Support
stupid onions boi, read the whole thread
is it tech related, yes
were i curious, yes
there aren't many technology based / /
and Jow Forums being literally called technology is the board i opted for.
condensated semen.
Trust me, I know this.
Just wipe it with a brush and contact cleaner. And ventilate your room more.
doubt it, i had this card for 1 month, the other one i had 5 years, desu fapped much more back then, and it is just fine.
wtf is this? i typed "desu i fapped much more back then" it autocorrect to "desu" when i have autocorrect turned off.
I bought a bunch of faulty 570/580 mining cards, all ended up being fan or bios issues. Bought 8 of them for £450, flipped them in ebay for £110/£125 each after repairing, kept one for myself. I more than doubled my money
fuuuuuuuck what is this?!!!
lol
N I C O T I N E F I L M
stop smoking around your computer
Leftover flux from cheap manufacturing
Don't fucking mess or even touch those small parts if you want your GPU to be stable
I like typing it too desu
what kind of water did you use to clean your computer?
>tin solder
>orange corrosion
Nope. It looks more like flux residue.
There's no conformal coating on GPUs or other stuff not meant to be exposed to the elements. PCBs in that price range should, however, be properly cleaned after soldering, so it's weird to find flux residue on it. It really, really looks like it, though.
How about you take a picture that is actually focused on the stuff in question rather than on a random heatpipe?
