Desktop is never going anywhere as long as there are people doing serious work. Video editing, pro audio & serious musicians, developers, mathematicians running big simulations, all the people who need a lot of power. They sure as fuck aren't going to do their work on a shitty phone.

Only basic normies stopped using desktops. All they do is use Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. Their iPhone 6S is enough for that.

Desktops won't die unless somehow non desktops become more cost effective which basically will never ever happen
That alone is all that really matters although there are plenty of other benefits to desktops

It is very easy to virtualize and centralize all of your compute resources, then you just RDP to a server when you need more power than a cheap laptop can give you.

Still ncie to have a desktop for tests on slightly bigger datasets, faster compile times etc.
