>admit your company is being incompetent
>public talks down to you
>try to talk down to them and hope the bluff works
whatever intern was running that twitter was probably disciplined.

Ten years ago, the company I work for (main ISP here) also had the password in cleartext and we all had access to it... And the possibility to change it.
Great for clients who don't remember the password and didn't give a cellphone for us to send it by text (40% now, but back then it was 99% of them). So we could change it and tell them what it was, and ask them to change it themselves after the call.
One day, a story broke out of a password that happened to be "salearabe", aka "dirtyarab" or "dirtyspic" if you want to understand the implications if it had happened in the US. I don't think the "those are just random characters sir, it's just unlucky it was those, lemme change it" card was played. Since the client was indeed from North Africa, understand it was tricky and consequences were never the same.
So media outrage, etc, financial compensation for the client who felt wronged.

Turns out, but that was never put in public, we just know it here, that the client was a typical annoying cunt and probably didn't speak much the language. The call that resulted in the "lemme change this asshole password for something that suits him" was backtraced by the cyberpolice (which is just our recordings because we are always recorded for evaluation and the whole marketing team telling us how to do our job because they want us to say this or that instead of sounding like a human being).
So it was backtraced and... The guy who did it was actually located in... North Africa. In one of the companie's subcontractor branch.
So basically, a North African employee who worked for an European country was pissed off by the behavior of a North African client located in Europe who was disrespectful and was probably showing the worst of what an immigrant would show. He was fired, the asshole client earned money from the lawsuit, the company was tarnished a bit and we couldn't change the passwords no more.

Does Yahoo use Jow Forums?

mirin that elephant's foot though.

This is unironically how most American businesses operate these days
You just complain and insult your consumers rather than actually providing a better product

TECHNOLOGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like sex, amirite?

I'm dying rofl

They don't, because the threat model they use - "what if we won't get hacked" - is the last hot thing in cybersecurity.

They are breaking GDPR laws.

How have they not been hacked yet? That's like the biggest bait I've ever seen a company drop

I don't get it

why don't you just not use their service and use some other service that provides a secure system

Wtf is he doing>?

Tumblr

>I don't get it
An extremely large company is using ridiculously stupid security practices.

>why don't you just not use their service and use some other service that provides a secure system
Firstly, changing them can take months, secondly your data is STILL THERE.

Its because it has no vga, not troubleshooting

I hate these people

I work in a development company, eveyone is a dev so when a marketing guy comes over, we're already very sceptical.
We work on a tool for multinational companies with just my boss and me. The guy keeps saying that the tool is going to
be the "New Excel". We cringe everytime he says this, but we keep working on the tool cuz he has has connections with
one of the companies we want to sell this tool to. (not really a great concern cuz we already have a connection with a
huge multinational company). We work on the tool for 2 months and the guy keeps whining about some front-end bull-
shit. We discontinue collaboration with him and he gets nothing of the code (cuz it's good code). He gets to keep only one
thing, because it was (all his idea apparently). The one thing he keeps is the name of the tool and that's it. Goddamn I
hate marketing people.

Why is your post full of random line breaks, you aren't writing poetry here....

BUY HIGH SELL LOW BABY

I'm no tumblrina but that place used to be the best fucking site for porn. they completely ruined it.

however I see what they mean about 'the next pdf'. sounds retarded coming from some boomer exec but I've been waiting for an innovation like that. unfortunately the best way for such a thing to happen would've been to let tumblr continue to do their own thing.

idgi

He's right though. If an attacker has access to your computer then you're fucked anyway. Might as well store it in cleartext.

Thanks for contributing to the cringe

That is false.
With correctly implemented security you can gain access to literally the entire database and learn NOTHING about any user data.
That is the fucking point.

Attached: lol2.png (800x1019, 44K)

If you store encrypted passwords, then they only get emails, which isn't a big deal nowadays.

>I see what they mean about 'the next pdf'

Explain? I'm not a tumblr user, I just thought it was like imgur

Goddamn that made me laugh. Bless you, you are a good man for that. That guy must be trolling... right? The downvotes and closing are the cherry

More like a mix of a media sharing site and a social networking site.

The cringe is that the executive of Yahoo thought the most apt comparison was to a file format, if he said "the next Facebook" or "the next Twitter" that's at least in sorta the same ballpark

it basically is imgur but with a more creative layout and ease of sharing. also, there's a lot of written content on tumblr.

I see its potential as a way for laymen to share ideas and incorporate images, color, motion, video, etc into them. not groundbreaking (isn't that just what a webpage is?) but it would be very easy for normal people to use.

I fucking hate managers and boardroom folk
I did a webdev project over the span of 8 months for some clowns who wanted changes here and everywhere. Then one week before we go live they told us to drop it and they want to go in a new direction.
>my fucking face when
Good thing they paid beforehand

In America this is how you unironically get fired from SMM.

Hash an salt those password BBY. Plaint text is just braindead.

Used to work for sprint from an Eastern Euro country.
Can tell you we had access to your every pass, your full name and address and your full SSN.
Some guy even got fired once for selling full identities for a dollar.
I would be skeptical of Sprint if I were you.

fuck harsh pine floors

>we cant let this opportunity tumblr way from us

Someone will do a blind study and prove that people can't really tell the difference between a 30$ and 3000$ pair of headphones like they did with wine

What bothers me the most is "pwoblem" instead of "pwobwem." At least be fucking consistent

Is this thing using a belt ?

that's some hella cringe shit. like I don't understand how this shit happens. people have to be getting free "vacations" to miami or some shit for these kinds of contracts and such shoddy ass work.

How are governments so fucking unbased? are some of these places just so single party no one can stop it?

And that's a good thing

Old but good

I don't understand those people.
Even assuming that power cables made a difference (they don't), don't they realize that behind the socket it's just some cheap old power cable anyway.

I think every super high end table is belt driven yes. Belt drive is used in tons still actually because it's supposed to reduce vibrations by not having the motor directly in contact with the platter

Is this a thing? Does Facebook tell you you can't use their service you signed up for if you violate their rules?

...

...

>get really confused by their responses

>Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) today announced that it has made a proposal to the Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) Board of Directors to acquire all the outstanding shares of Yahoo! common stock for per share consideration of $31 representing a total equity value of approximately $44.6 billion. Microsoft’s proposal would allow the Yahoo! shareholders to elect to receive cash or a fixed number of shares of Microsoft common stock, with the total consideration payable to Yahoo! shareholders consisting of one-half cash and one-half Microsoft common stock. The offer represents a 62 percent premium above the closing price of Yahoo! common stock on Jan. 31, 2008.

Did Yahoo really say no to this or were microsoft blocked from making the sale were yahoo really that retarded

jesus fucking christ.
yes
looks like the company you work for was just purely incompetent from the start. well deserved.
> old gear have real lamps inside
imagine our fucking shock? thanks, captain obvious.

>imagine our fucking shock? thanks, captain obvious.

Based retard. It's not being used as an indicator. This is an old DMM but it's not so old that LEDs didn't exist. The fucking thing has seven segment displays for the readout on the front even. The light bulb is actually part of the power supply circuitry. Acting as some kind of regulator for the NiCd batteries.

Attached: 8000A.png (1359x674, 157K)

God damn, it just gets worse as you keep reading.

It doesn't matter how good you THINK your security is. You work on the what-if's, it's what keeps you on your fucking toes. I'd say I hope their actual IT doesn't feel like this arrogant cunt about security, but the fact that they do in fact store shit in plain text proves otherwise.

And snake oil. If your cables are properly shielded, your devices have some form of noise reduction and are properly grounded, and you're not right next to a massive source of interference, you should be fine.

> once i become captain obvious.. i just can't stop pointing out the obvious
> goes onto a board usually full of old dudes
> explains how old electronics works
> not captain obvious
thanks, captain obvious.

Huh thats not even a complex circuit. Whats the story behind this?

is this nigger crying for real?
