>Faster than wangblows
>Don't have to sell your soul to Microdick to use it

>Package manager
>Unironically better to code on

Looks better
Feels better to use

Good for hacking (not in retarded cybersecurity meaning) - just pipe everything together
package manager; installing c/c++ dev libs on Windows is retarded

it's free
it's Free

Package manager
Customisability

Jackie
Chan

freedom
control

Better for porn

I'm a NEET
I have no social life or interests

doesn't update and kill your pc randomly, unless you specifically tell it to
package manager makes it a million times easier to install dependencies

Facilitates innovation
Better socioeconomics of collaboration and openness

1 . Muh.
2 . Freedumbs.

Sorry dude, can't even give you one.

Less bloat
Less telemetry

Some thots getting paid to wear Linux swag is a reason to switch? lmfao

1) You're gay.
2) You're the bitch in a bitch&butch relationship.

Windows doesn't run on phones anymore
Windows tablets are expensive

1. free
2. easy to use

1. Freedom
2. Privacy

I don't use Lunix on the desktop but those are the reasons to use it. Everything else suffers compared to Windows though. Great on servers, but I'm considering moving to FreeBSD.

It's not viral marketed 24/7 like you paid Microsoft trolls do for Windows
It isn't a pile of fucking garbage like your shill OS.

>flexibility
>privacy

Free software
More options

1. it just werks
2. does anyone know how to compile the driver for my keyboard

Which free is which?

Yes

Thank you user, very insightful!

Glad to be of service, citizen! Awesome-man, aawaaaaaaaay!

i don't like windows 10
i don't like macos either

>Looks better

Gimme a fucking visible picture asshole.

>Package manager
He said a GOOD reason not a fucking flaw dipshit.

>legally costs nothing
>secure and reliable (no malware worries)
>very customizable (can use different environments)
>lighter than win10 (make old hardware useful again)

Free as in free beer and free as in libre

Imagine manually checking the website and version numbers for your wInDows pRogrAM inStAlLeR so you keep up to date with features and vuln patches

>1. Updates, on your terms
>2. Complete Customization, on your terms
>3. Security/Privacy, on your terms.
>4. Absolute control over the Kernel version.
>5. Your choice from many Desktop Environments
>6. Easiest system to implement servers and programming language specific development.
>7. No proprietary BS (dependent on your distro)

>8. Stability

Can be customized to a specific use case
It's free

significantly faster
extremely stable after first few runs

cons
dev dependencies, you have to dockerize
touch screens suck with it

much faster start-up time than windows
if you have windows 10, don't have to worry about forced updates
if you have windows 7, you've got like 6 months before you stop getting security updates

if you have a mac, you overpayed but you may as well stick with OSX for now, not as big of an incentive to switch

Nigger you can literally change how it looks to your need instead of just wallpaper and shitty 10 different colors you can apply to your taskbar.

1. Arch Linux
2. Gentoo

based

1. it's free
2. programming becomes something you can do for fun a little bit at a time rather than requiring a lot of boilerplate and working around Microshit bugs

>blender renders 25% faster on linux than windows
>I3gaps uses ~600mb which is about half of windows
>ext4 never needs defrags and linux can use it and ntfs, windows can only do ntfs
>not affected by windows viruses, very few linux viruses
AND NOW FOR THE CONS
>if you use a swap your entire computer will freeze and require a hard reboot when one program uses too much ram
>sleep mode breaks everything
>JACK Pulseaudio Alsa is hard to use, kx studio is abandoned, VSTs dont work
>Wine has a horrible open/save file picker with no bookmarks and no back button that makes getting real work done in wine very difficult for no good reason
>nvidia screen tearing
>new kernels break closed source wifi driver dkms and foss wifi adapters cost 80 bucks
>only kde has a good filepicker and kde has a file indexer that uses 100% cpu and 2gb ram turned on by default
>amd and other companies only support ubuntu officially.
>most of AUR is broken unmaintained packages
>autodesk and others only support centos officially
>X is bad but wayland doesnt work on nvidia
>systemd is bad but every popular distro uses it
>cool new programs like milton and olive arent in the repositories, abandoned horseshit is
>the open source blender using the open source opengl renderer on the open source amd graphics cards requires a closed source amd gpu pro driver that performs worse than the open source driver to render anything

Portability and popularity. That's why Google uses it in Android. But if you're not a total brainlet use XNU.

>1
windows is free too (no retard ever buys it)
>2
you can have fun programming on any OS

>windows is free too
Where is the source code so I can modify and redistribute it?
>you can have fun programming on any OS
Good luck jumping through hoops just to get anything working in Pajeet OS.

>systemd
>pulseaudio
Ez

Bash
Security

uses less ram.
you can use almost any programming lang of your preference.
customizable.
not a bot net. atleast until microsoft fucks linux in the ass

>if you use a swap your entire computer will freeze and require a hard reboot when one program uses too much ram
this is true, but you don't have to use a swap partition, especially if you have 8G+ of RAM which is common
>Wine has a horrible open/save file picker with no bookmarks and no back button that makes getting real work done in wine very difficult for no good reason
wine is pretty hit or miss, agreed that it's not worth relying on
>nvidia screen tearing
nvidia-settings
force full composition pipeline
save to X configuration
there, no more screen tearing
>new kernels break closed source wifi driver dkms and foss wifi adapters cost 80 bucks
this can be a problem if you already have a laptop, you can always delay upgrading your kernel though, any sane package manager should let you do that easily
>X is bad but wayland doesnt work on nvidia
I'm using it right now
>systemd is bad but every popular distro uses it
agreed, you can get around it though
>cool new programs like milton and olive arent in the repositories, abandoned horseshit is
these are both in my distro's repos

for the other things I either don't know or it's fairly reasonable

ignore
>I'm using it right now
I misread the original

setting up most programming environments are quick and easy

building and loading library dependencies is quick and easy
