Switching a version, you can catch a set of bugs never occured before, but staying with the version, you have a definite list of bugs you know how to bypass.

They don't release a newer version unless it's stable, it's as stable as you're gonna get, by that logic might as well stay with Angular 4(two versions back), and never update in any new project.
btw the idiot manager who said this wasn't technical, later had to get a actual technical manager involved who told to use the latest stable release.
