I am a Rust enthusiast (getting hyped for HRT xoxo) but even I can see that the current driver model eliminates most of the advantages they would get by switching to Rust. Sure you'll get local "safety" but you would still have to trust manually-packed data behind a cast pointer.
If loonix is ready to adapt a bit to provide the compiler with more static guarantees though this would prove interesting
