CPUs >Athlon 200GE - HTPC, web browsing, bare minimum gaming (can be OC'd on most mobos with the right BIOS) >R3 2200G - Minimum 30-60fps gaming. 2400G/3400G may be worth to less likely require a CPU upgrade when adding a dGPU >R5 2600 - 60fps+ gaming CPU with great value >R5 3600 - Great gaming CPU >R7 3700X - Overkill gaming CPU >Wait for Threadripper gen3 - Extreme overkill gaming with its larger cache >R7 1700 - Budget production >R9 3900X - Professional tasks
RAM >Do not use a single DIMM. 2 sticks for a typical dual channel CPU >CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 3200CL16 or Micron E-die ("AES" in P/N) recommended >AMD B & X chipsets and Intel Z chipsets support XMP
GPUs 1080p >RX 570/580 8GB - Can be found on sale/used for cheap. Look for 570s which are >1240MHz boost >GTX 1660TI / Vega56 - higher fps / more demanding games; only worth it on sale as normal MSRP is too high >RX 5700 - higher FPS 1440p >RX 5700 - standard, 70-100FPS+ gaming >RX 5700XT - higher fps 2160p (4K) >RX 5700XT - budget option. Upscale with RIS >2080Ti - best for 4K, but poor value
>Navi AIB models have low availability. 5700 non-XT blower is alright, due to low power.
General >Yes, adaptive sync (g/free-sync) is important for gaming >NVMe isn't better than SATA SSD for gaming >QLC is for storage, NOT for main drive >Don't use Speccy >Beware sites which rank CPUs by arbitrary, obfuscated scores (eg userbenchmark, passmark, cpuboss) >Beware posts spamming benches of averages, without 1% minimums >AM4 VRMs, Monitors & SSD Guide under "more"
Yes. That SSD choice is fine but like... it's a high performance one. You just want something cheap, don't you? I see ones on sale for $25-$30 all the time. But maybe it's not worth fretting over $10-$15.
>I wanted to know what to get for 1440p 144hz gaming. A 9900k+2080Ti won't do 144fps at 720p in every game, let alone 1440p. And that's the best setup you can get other than an RTX Titan which is like 3% faster. You need to set a realistic goal. 144fps in every game is impossible as many simply run like shit no matter your hardware or are locked to 60 or 100fps.
Kevin Ortiz
Does MSI's Ventus OC series come with fan stop? I am apparently a retard that can't find any reviews
Anthony Adams
Don't build a gaming pc right now. The ps5 will have the same performance and vram as the 2070 while only being 500$.
>impossible goal That is actually helpful information, thank you.
Benjamin Jackson
Yo where the fuck do I learn more about PC's than what the sticky/thread says?
I want to become a computer nerd to bee honest.
Ian Rivera
ATTENTION: Graphics card prices are excessive by historical standards; therefore, consumers should delay or completely forgo any midrange to high end graphics card purchases. The gouging has two root causes: lack of market competition and shortage/"new normal" pricing during the mining hayday.
Matthew Reyes
I can't play my shitty kMMOs on a ps5.

Consoles are unironically the most important thing for the future of computer hardware because they set the minimum.
Ryan Perry
just go on ebay and get a beat up workstation
Jason King
Wait for threadripper. It's likely going to crush some games due to all the cache. Even if you don't buy it, helps to know where it stands.
Doesn't that GPU have a solid milled heatsink? The 2060 one I'm pretty sure does. If so, surely it does not.
and yeah what the other user says, 85% of games since 2013 sounds about right. Some new games like Destiny 2 sort of run fine at 144fps (though with bugs because it was made to run at 60), Wolfenstein, etc. But lots of games, even at lowest settings 720p, they just run like shit no matter your hardware and you can just be happy for 60. Even WoW drops near 60 on a 9900k in some cases. Powerful hardware doesn't fix shitty programming.
The FAQ in the OP has a lot of information. Other than that, you learn from tinkering with shit. Even the best youtubers and analysts are full of misleading information and errors ie Gamer's Nexus tested dual vs single channel a long time ago, and concluded that dual channel wasn't a significant difference The problem with their tested is they used DUAL RANK memory, which has a much smaller difference between single and dual CHANNEL memory. They also mostly tested synthetics. They recently redid their test without acknowledging how they fucked up and concluded that it is worth it, but still.

I'm an idiot someone please help. After doing some benchmark tests and realizing my newly built PC wasn't running optimally, I messed with a few things, and now when I start it up I get various errors like this one. They're all relating to the System32 drivers folder. What's weird is if I go to BIOS first, Windows will start up perfectly fine. I'm typing this on the messed up PC right now. Is there any way I can fix this drivers folder? I enabled XMP to improve my RAM, could that be the problem? I'm not sure I can undo anything else I did at this point. But at least my performance increased, I guess.
>ps5 Still over a year until that comes out. But you're right, prices are terrible right now. Realistically the PS5 will have an 8c/16t Zen/Navi APU with 5700 tier graphics. Those components alone would cost almost $700 in the current market. Either prices will drop significantly or PC will continue to be squeezed for every last dollar.
Looks good, now put it in the tiniest case possible, or go mITX on the mobo
>The FAQ in the OP has a lot of [garbage] information

Reinstall windows, or run windows repair

>B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC WiFi OR >X570 Gaming Edge WiFi Which one is best for my 3600 CPU? X570 doesn’t require a BIOS update, but B450 is around $50 cheaper.
How important is the sound codec in mobos for mid-range headphones? Will the difference between ALC1220 and ALC892 even be noticeable on headphes like aurvana live?

Interesting, I was unaware. I suppose it keeps track of when new posters enter the thread?

Not as bad as during the actual bubble, but this gen is still ridiculously overpriced
Gavin Rodriguez
prices are expected to drop next year assuming nothing really gay happens, now that amd has caught up to nvidia in certain segments and intel is also entering the market
Thomas Rodriguez
I posted this build yesterday but was busy and didn't have time to check back about replies. This build is solely for video editing and rendering work in Adobe Premiere Pro. I already have an Adobe RGB certified 31.5" 4K monitor
I don't have the 4 months to wait for it to launch, and then another 3 months to actually get my hands on one. My current build is holding up my overall amount of work I can actually finish because rendering times take so fucking long. I'll get the 7nm Threadripper down the road if it's that worth it.

Probably about 2000USD including monitor, building around a 2080Ti
Anthony Martinez
Retarded response, the only graphics component better than a 2080M is a 2080Ti, which is already 1000USD

1,5 years ago i built my pc with a gtx 1080, ryzen 5 2600x 16gb ram, im using a 144hz monitor and still in pubg i have to turn down the settings to get 144 fps, also playing VR games i sometimes get framedrops. Should i upgrade now or wait for next gpu gen?
Liam Johnson
Thanks guys, might actually but this laptop then.
Juan Russell
anyone?
Gavin Adams
Wait Also use fpsVR to see what's limiting you in VR. SteamVR does some dumb shit with automatic render scales, so make sure you don't have like 16X MSAA going on
You're either trolling or retard. The 2080 Max-Q is slower than the 5700 non-XT. Do some research and you'll see you're getting trolled. Don't just trust someone who's trying to make you waste money because he thinks it's funny.
laptop models with the same name as desktop models are significantly less powerful, and more expensive
Christopher Allen
Is there a small 144hz fhd monitor, like smaller than 20inch? Cause my desk is small and space is limited, I just don't want a monitor that I can't look across the screen without bending my neck. Thanks
My sister pretty much just uses her PC for left 4 dead and Skyrim. I was thinking of getting her a 580 for her birthday to replace her 760, is that a decent upgrade?
James Cruz
its like 3 times faster so yes
Ryder Long
also dirt cheap
Gabriel Hall
If it's not too expensive. It does fine with 3200CL16 overclocked to 3600CL7.
overpriced. I saw RX590 like 3 days ago for $170 or $180. 570 should be $120-$140.
desktop cards in laptops still perform worse due to both thermal and power delivery throttling. And really, those cards just don't belong in laptops. Max-Q and M models exist for a reason.
And really, a lot of laptops which SEEMINGLY have desktop GPUs in them are actually just mislabeled on the specs.
search for task chairs Hermen Miller is a popular and good brand
... seems irrelevant. She has a 60hz monitor I assume. If you really want to upgrade "just because", then wait for the better power efficiency of the RX 5600. It'll probably run those games at only 20 watts of power consumption. Or wait for a good sale on a 570 and get both that and a 1920x1200@75 monitor. That'll be a more significant upgrade.
In short, find better things to spend that money on when that's all she plays.

First time build newfag here. I accidentally broke one of the pins (the bottom left one) of my mobo's front panel USB 3 connector, but I just plugged in a usb and the system reads it normally. What the hell?
