/pcbg/ - PC Building General

ATTENTION: Graphics card prices are excessive by historical standards; therefore, consumers should delay or completely forgo any midrange to high end graphics card purchases. The gouging has two root causes: lack of market competition and shortage/"new normal" pricing during the mining hayday.

CPUs
>Athlon 200GE - HTPC, web browsing, bare minimum gaming (can be OC'd on most mobos with the right BIOS)
>R3 2200G - Minimum 30-60fps gaming. 2400G/3400G may be worth to less likely require a CPU upgrade when adding a dGPU
>R5 2600 - 60fps+ gaming CPU with great value
>R5 3600 - Great gaming CPU
>R7 3700X - Overkill gaming CPU
>R7 1700 - Budget production
>R9 3900X - Professional tasks
>Wait for Threadripper gen3 - Extreme overkill gaming with its larger cache

RAM
>Do not use a single DIMM. 2 sticks for a typical dual channel CPU

>3950x or wait for threadripper

hello and WELCOME to tech deals

Can someone recommend me good ram sticks for a 3700x?

I've been researching alot and still can't make up my mind. Might be too much of a brainlet. Don't know if I should pay straight up for a fast ram or go for overclockable one.

Would really appreciate the help.

Attached: 41203491.jpg (400x400, 24K)

The human eye can't see above 2400MHz

I know a fair bit about ram and even I don't know what to buy

its another "just wait for stock" month

3950 is going to be insane
anyone telling you to wait is an idiot

your target is 3600mhz or 3800mhz with tight timings, whether you get that with a certified xmp stick that costs more or from a game of chance from cheaper ram with a bdie or micron edie is up to you

wait for threadripper it's going to be insane

3200 cl16 works fine, or you can pay up for 3600 c16

absolute faggot
just get the 3950 there is no reason to wait if you are a person who actually uses the machine instead of one who wanks off to benchmarks
>ISHYGDDT

*has his pci lanes saturated*

Does brand matter? From what I've gathered so far it's either gonna be gskill or corsair.

Is one brand better than the other?

based Asus TUF Gaming price/performance power delivery
Z390 on suicide watch

brand matters, but not what's printed on the outside of the ram, what matters is what memory modules they're using
you have to look up the spreadsheet that tells you what memory is on the inside of the stick, buy based on that

if you want to avoid everything you can just buy the gskill trident z neo, but it's more expensive than figuring it out all by yourself

>furiously masturbates to benchmarks
>achieves nothing

*has his cores memory choked*

attempting to trick people into a more expensive platform
how many stocks did you buy faggot?

AIB reviews fucking when?
MSI Mech and Gigabyte Gaming 5700 XT have been available in my region for a week, are they at least better than Evoke?

Can somebody help me understand my motherboard's supported RAM list?
Particularly the # of Ranks x DRAM devices column in the pic. Does it mean that it supports 2 sticks of 16gb RAM, or 2 sticks of 8gb RAM equaling 16gb?

Sorry for the newbie question, just trying to make sure I buy RAM I can actually overclock to 3200

Attached: Screenshot_20190904-085228_Drive.jpg (493x957, 257K)

MSI mech looks heavily overpriced, might have same issues that evoke has
i havent heard anything about the gigabyte videocards

based tech deals poster

rank is a characteristic of a single stick of ram, it can be dual rank or single rank

1Rx8 means 8 sticks of single rank ram
2Rx8 means 8 sticks of double rank ram

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor $327.89
ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO CPU Cooler $39.99
Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard $189.79
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory $64.99
Samsung 970 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive $169.99
MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB GAMING X TRIO Video Card $539.99
Cooler Master MasterCase H500 ATX Mid Tower Case $144.98
Corsair TXM Gold 650 W 80+ Gold Certified $79.99
VIOTEK GFT27DB 27.0" 2560x1440 144 Hz Monitor $279.99
Anything obviously wrong? Going with Nvidia because AMD's promo doesn't stack

Both mech and gaming are cheaper than evoke here, also cheaper than asus blower somehow.
I guess if there's no Red Devil available by the end of next week and if the other cards are not proven to be good I'll try to get Pulse during its brief availability windows.

get a sabrent rocket 1tb over the 970 evo
switch the corsair CSU (cringe supply unit) to a seasonic PSU

very nice build otherwise

Get the wifi version of the motherboard for $10 more.

A dongle isn't going to be better value and a card isn't going to perform better and gets in the way of your GPU airflow

>the pulse is cheaper or similar price to most reference cards
>performs better
based

guys, help me build the most budget amd workstation pc

go to your local dump and salvage parts

pcpartpicker.com/list/Rbtz8Y

will do some programming/ gaming on it, tried to go budget
thoughts?

also no bully bc the ssd, no clue wich is the best

but I dont trust those guys, I have to know first what parts I am getting

its a dump you just rummage around and find something yourself

comfy build, beware that ssds under 1tb will be slower than 1tb ssds due to the size of memory modules currently in production, and drives smaller than 1tb having fewer modules to split data between
consider the sabrent rocket 1tb drive, otherwise looks good

my client wants brand new pieces

What makes the Seasonic better than a TX-M at a similar pricepoint?

it's not, he is just one of those cringe guys who shill seasonic

Worth waiting for 9900KS over the 9900K?

I would wait for the 9900KYS

absolutely based

cope and seethe harder poorfag

Depends what the price difference is. Any more than $30 premium, then fuck no. Just like the whole 8086K saga where the 8700K remained the same price, but any chance of getting good silicone was robbed with binning for the overpriced SKU

So what was the initial price premium for the 8086K? Probably gonna be similar for the 9900KS I guess.

How's this for a mid tier build? I already have a RX580, storage drives and PSU, but these upgrades seem to not be sufficient for my old ass PC built almost a decade ago. Plus, the old motherboard is starting to give me trouble, so I might as well build a new PC from scratch.
The disk reader is for the bunch of CD's/DVD's I have lying around.

Attached: hurdur.png (1533x640, 54K)

explain to me why anybody would buy threadripper when last generations chips which cost thousands in motherboards and cpus and use 500W of power are now outperformed by a $500 cpu in am4 that draws 100W

Oh, forgot to put a link for convenience.
pt.pcpartpicker.com/list/6vcfMZ

I'd probably call that lower-mid but eh, should be fine.

>8086K
oh man what a meme, now that takes me back
good ole intel lol

I'm sure PC Partpicker will make a liar out of me, but from memory it was $50-70.

anandtech.com/show/12945/the-intel-core-i7-8086k-review

65 bucks

Attached: soyboy.jpg (678x508, 43K)

because posters here bought amd stocks lad

Not too bad, I think it's worth it considering you eliminate the silicon lottery and don't have to do any tricks to get the most out of the 9900K.

As far as I know only 30% of the 9900K chips can do 5 ghz OC.

RX 580 8GB Red Dragon for 120?

You're not wrong, and people actually ate it up.
Thanks man, it was a pretty big premium between something that all core overclocked to 4.9 and 5.0ghz. I guess there people who'll buy a 3800X over 2700X

>3800X over 2700X
3700X*

remember when intel released the "auction only" high binned 9990XE

anandtech.com/show/13804/intel-core-i9-9990xe-up-to-5-ghz-auction-only

people were hyping it up that it would sell for an enormous price, and then some of the guys who ended up bidding it up tried to sell it on their website but now have to keep lowering the price because nobody is buying them

slav autist says 3950X end of september

FUCK

its never coming out bruv

Good deal.

Brand new 2070 Super windforce, and I'm at 58°c idle temperature. That seems very wrong. What could be the problem?

DeepCool Gammaxx 400 or Cooler Master MA410P?

The malware bitcoin miners on your pc are running

You forgot to plug in all the power cables.

How can one determine if this is happening or not?

what case? tons of cases have really shitty airflow

They're in, and what would that even matter at idle, if it functioned at all??

Meshify C. Default fans for now, and a Scythe Mugen 5 on the CPU, if that matters.

are you running a silent bios? if so the fans will turn off when idle and a higher temperature is normal

wtf, 58 idle is not normal under any circumstance for a GPU

The card is on default settings and not spinning up the fans at all. I suppose I'll just use afterburner to force them to kick in before 60°c but that seems weird.

shouldnt be on this board if you dont know how to use a computer and i am not going to help you

yes it is. a hot room and a fan stop idle will reach those temps. the msi 2070 super idles at 51 in a cool air-conditioned room.

Attached: Screenshot_20190904_105129.png (534x328, 44K)

>The card is on default settings and not spinning up the fans at all. I suppose I'll just use afterburner to force them to kick in before 60°c but that seems weird.
sure, that sounds fine. verify the fans work but that's about what I expected. I would check your load temperatures and make sure things are working ok. make sure you have up to date drivers etc and maybe mess around with some of the settings.

Giv me a budget and usage scenario and ill give u PC cs i have nothing smarter to do w life atm

Attached: 201908191541776185_5d5a44b2bc5ae.jpg (3000x1959, 352K)

Only the 600+ shekels premium boards have good cooling. Why is this acceptable?

$450
Just curious if you can beat me

Oh, I apologize. The usage scenario is gayumz

it shouldn't be, considering buying good heatsinks for an entire board is like $20. but I actually blame consumers, same with rgb shit and bad airflow cases
brands do it because they know the lower price will move more boards than quality cooling

desu u cant buy shit for 450, 550~600 great PC yeah but 450 is diminishing value on bottom line

How to determine if a miner is on your machine and how to isolate it is a totally valid question you faggot

anyone ever bought refurbished stuff from blinq, particularly monitors? they have S2417DGs for cheap but Im scared I might get a piece of shit.

Wrong.
Thanks for wasting my time, asshole.

single digit iq posting

Would rather save 100$ than have
NVME
fast ram 6 cores ok GPU and noon chink PSU in build

Classic trash lol

I'll bite, build me a great PC for 550-600.

Sounds like a bad idea for monitors, who returns monitors that don't have fucked pixels? Unless you don't mind dead pixels I doubt it's worth it.

What the fuck are you doing? You said:
>Giv me a budget and usage scenario and ill give u PC
I gave you budget, and you're only complaining in return. Jesus, I can spend "550~600" myself and doing it well. If I had more than 450 why would I ask your opinion? You made me angry.

Whats the point of buying faster RAM i thought the ryzen memory controllers only supported up to 2933mhz anyways

>who returns monitors that don't have fucked pixels?
Right now I sell my second monitor only because I need money more than the thing I didn't use and probably will not.

Dear Diary,
Today graphics cards were too expensive.
