The day the oldfag told me about immutable free speech

>You've heard the rumors that oldfags are working on decentralized image boards in the wake of the 8ch fiasco.
>Immutable. Uncensorable. Unstoppable. Infinite discussions.
>Provable trip codes for whistleblowers because math.
>Non-glowing anonymous admins.

Go away, CIA!
You glow in the dark!

I don't get it. Why does Jow Forums hate this? I mean I hate infinity channers too but whats wrong with putting blockchain tech behind Jow Forums to make it uncensorable? seems really neat at least. only issue is what happens when someone uploads CP i guess

Hmmm didn't realize this was a room temp IQ board at this hour...my bad. Imagine still posting on a centralized server where your A) being censored and B) your data is likely being sold and analyzed by alphabet agencies

The code is on github, have a look. It's just a client so you can run it on your local machine. No server is required. No logs. Data lives in the blockchain not some server in the USA. Anyone can setup a node and taking them all down would be fruitless. Either you gr0k this key concept or you don't.

You know, it always makes me laugh then there's a supposed little meet up among all of the millennial and boomer oldfags to work on something private.

Just be sure to always view the website with Moderation Mode = on in the sidebar user. You can still view the website in un-moderated mode but I'd advise against it. It's up to node owners to have this on/off by default. Check here for details on what we moderate (not much): blockchan.ca/about

It's early days for this project and we'd love to have your input. See the meta board: blockchan.ca/catalog/m

Do you need to have a copy of the blockchain on your PC?

If yes, doesn't it grow at an insane rate and does it mean I'm going to have a copy of all CP posted?

Sounds completely retarded. Here's why:

1. The only problem that blockchain was really designed to solve was the double-spend problem, and maybe a few obscure problems involving sybil attacks. There are some related problems that can also only be solved with blockchains and blockchain-like things, but for the most part, blockchains are overkill for most applications. Standard P2P techniques will almost always suffice and scale vastly better.

2. Why the hell would you want to make an anonymous image board immutable? Threads on this site are deleted after a certain amount of time, ignoring the data hoarders who decide to archive everything.

3. With the "provable tripcode" nonsense, clearly you're either trolling or don't know what you're talking about.

Want to build this? Do it with normal P2P tech.

We're all ages but the lead devs are oldfags. tbqh this project is waaaay overdue but the tech to really accomplish it elegantly only appeared recently. ph33r.

Attached: l33t_hacker.jpg (500x500, 111K)

it's just a combination of 1s and 0s user

>gr0k
That was a terrible book. go be a neohippy elsewhere

Oh dear, someone left behind from the Chanology era. Someone please sweep this pest away.

doesnt that defeat the purpose if you leave keeping the blockchain to only a select few?

1. What you say is true but it ignores the introduction of memo field on the Ripple blockchain. It presented a great opportunity to stuff post content into for a very cheap price, almost $0. IPFS (for images) is absol-fucking-lutely perfect for an image board and is P2P tech.

2. Yes we currently archive threads in the client after no activity for 90 days but are playing with how to do this properly. We'll unpin the images from ipfs at least.

3. Huh? We have provable tripcode via XRP secret. Anyone can gen one with free software. It's not rocket science user. You do know that during the Qanon LARP on 8ch that Q was tied to the platform by Ron with a lame rewrite of their tripcode. It was done on purpose. You know this right user? twitter.com/HW_BEAT_THAT/status/1169033904063307776

>Want to build this? Do it with normal P2P tech.

We did. Now go to bed Travis!

Attached: uncensorable2.png (1200x675, 591K)

yeah just a minor issue there, it's not like it totally invalidates the concept or anything.

So yeah, instead of "censored" Jow Forums you now hold an entire copy of the imageboard on your computer which undoubtedly includes child porn because that's what everyone complaining about censorship really means
great idea guys

Heinlein was a genius and visionary for his era, kys.

Lmao implementing secure tripcodes for autistic Nostradamus larpers.

Oh please fren show us all what you're doing to fight censorship and keep free speech alive?

meh I agree...but it's also useful for any other type of whistleblower.

Attached: fight_back.jpg (1024x840, 50K)

I fight censorship by not having stupid ideas that get censored

retards shouldn't have free speech

Why? Nobody listens to retards.

How long until childporn is posted there?

If only that were true

You seem to have a problem seeing the forest from the trees user. Freedom of speech doesn't protect speech you like...it protects speech you don't like.

Attached: go_time.png (1200x675, 998K)

Good joke.

Nobody will go whistleblower on autistic site for kids to pretend they are doing something useful with their lives by mashing blockchains together until they spell "Nigger"

>Le annoymoose type shit
Fuck off, you stupid edgy fag. I don't want to associate with people like you.
Way to give yourself the worst public image right out of the gate.

>immutable free speech
sign me the fuck up, i started using Jow Forums just because of that, and it's failing miserably at this basic shit

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences, and what your tiny little walled garden aims is to free yourselves from the consequences of being total moron shitheads everywhere else on the internet. Now go in the containment site of your own doing, and stay go.

We've already moderated some, it is inevitable in a system like this. We'll continue to moderate it.

You seem beta af. We don't want you.

Join us brother.

Attached: wipe_sweat.jpg (426x341, 31K)

I'm sure you'll be happy about your "freedom of speech" when your computer is full of CP you didn't even put there

>moderate
I thought you said freedom of speech?
dropped

Don't forget the autism manifests posted minutes right before a mass shooting!

>come on guys who cares about free speech! freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from being forced not to express yourself by mega corps and governments, c'mon!

Attached: DEbLj7o.jpg (904x960, 55K)

Dude, relax, take some breaths. Nobody said you have to use /pol. We have an anime and tech board with plans for more you might like. You're revealing your power level man, just lurk a bit now.

Attached: SoyBoy.jpg (640x360, 20K)

What the fuck is with the lost post numbers? How are we supposed to check em if the numbers are long as shit? fix it.

>tripcodes

Can't think of a single time any corporation or government has had control over what I say

Thanks friend I agree with that, please post to /m

Me neither. But that is because I am not American.

But it's immutable. How can you moderate it?

>Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences
People that say this would be the ones being censored a few decades ago. Would it be simply "the consequences of your actions" if you were censored during the McCarthy era? What about in the modern day, if you're arrested for protesting for women's rights in Saudi Arabia is that not just the consequences of your actions? Or is it just more acceptable when corporations do it?

Attached: CtdmC5XUkAAi43A.jpg large.jpg (1024x961, 62K)

Adjacency matters, the culture of a site is generalized across the entire site even here in Jow Forums.
If your site is aimed at shitheads, I expect shitheads in all boards and I want nothing of that.

>Things that never happened
>Total misunderstanding of what Free Speech even is

>blockchan.ca/abo

their Jow Forums board seems a little wanting

lets face it, the old fags grew up and got jobs.

old Jow Forums was a time and place, when the internet was more like the wild west. that time is over now it's not coming back. We should look to the future instead of trying to relive the past.

infinity was definitely not like old Jow Forums,

neither is 7 chan

neither is any other chan that tries to capture that

Attached: DISCHAN.png (1680x1050, 412K)

says the leddit spacer.

>freedom of speech only matters if the government is the one censoring people, there's nothing wrong with corporate monopolies doing it!

>chanology retards reminiscing about "old Jow Forums"
kill me

Nobody said that you can't fight a bad law. But there are also varying degrees of justification, and being a shithead online is not nearly at the same level at all as real political persecution or human rights.
And damn, this little Chanology version who cares is not all for a good cause.

Their rules, their services. If you don't like them, make your own services.
Which is why this supposedly secure site is a good thing, it keeps you out of my sight.

>there's nothing wrong with corporate monopolies doing it!
correct

I

niggers

They are happy with the censorship where it stands currently, they are now in the safe so everyone else that gets silenced don't matter and should get fucked.

no one will stop you but also no one will give a fuck about what you think faggot.

Hey retard
Censorship does not mean "thing I like is not in"
>My shitpost was deleted? CENSORSHIP
>Supermarket ran out of pizza rolls? CENSORSHIP
>Stopped paying the bills, now got no electricity? CENSORSHIP
>Ran out of gas? CENSORSHIP

>please pay money to post CP
lol

Attached: 1566258499788.png (2008x2008, 1.97M)

doesn't matter who listens, I'll have an argument, you wont have anything more than muh whitespace

old Jow Forums wasn't what it was because of no censorship, moot and snacks banned people all the time. so did the mods

what made it good was the users, the users that initially immigrated from something awful were pretty cool, so were the 2chan users that came after they found out about this place

the two commingled to form a unique quirky and mischievous community that became the center of the internet

it was cool that Jow Forums had free-er speech than most of the internet, but old Jow Forums wasn't cool because of free speech, it was cool because of the people and the community, which is what finity-chan, and this chan and alot of the "free speech" chans miss

I'm not saying free speech is bad, but it's not the basis for a community

also hotwheels got kill, why is it still word-filtered gookmoot?

Attached: t9g1ekjp55ny.png (889x479, 100K)

>admins
nah no thanks

>moderated
So no freedom of speech. Get rekt

Attached: 872.png (680x797, 330K)

>Tripcodes
>Brave Browser
>Blockchain

Again, read here: blockchan.ca/about

We only moderate what is absolutely necessary to comply with with 47 U.S.C. ยง 230 BUT like I said you can view the website in un-moderated mode = YOU CHOOSE whether to see moderated threads or not. Kapiche?

Attached: pepe-mouth.png (454x453, 53K)

>Heinlein was a genius

Attached: 1544088125846.gif (260x150, 1.45M)

What's the chance of loli mode being a honeypot

so everyone's still going to be hosting CP on their system against their will?

This, exactly.
The community is what determines how the site is, and like the saying goes, a few bad apples spoil the bunch. Thus for a good community with good discussion you need to relentlessly kick out idiots and chronical shitposters, spammers and others that bring the community down.

But guess that for some retards, being a retard online matters more than having a good community.

So just like freenet, but without the encryption that protects you. lol

this is incredibly retarded but probably a good exercise in block chains. so... not a complete waste of time I suppose

>IPFS

yeah so you do get CP on your computer from hosting a node, plus you deal with the security risks that come with that

>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InterPlanetary_File_System

Block chains are a waste of time

Are you dense friend? I addressed this multiple times. and

Attached: interdasting.jpg (720x540, 51K)

>Thus for a good community with good discussion you need to relentlessly kick out idiots and chronical shitposters, spammers and others that bring the community down.
That sort of works for some specialized communities of autists, but not for imageboards. It drives newcomers away and makes the community a stale circlejerk

NO you will not. The files are pulled from IPFS but you are not required to host a node. We did this on purpose so you are not susceptible to hosting illegal content. Please just read our about page before making moar assumptions: blockchan.ca/about

Attached: actually.png (680x680, 124K)

If the newcomers don't integrate, if the newcomers fail to LURK MORE; they should definitely be driven away.
This is why Jow Forums is like this now, because of the failure at the above

Honestly, blockchain is the future way of hosting such content and provide a real freedom of speech experience.
Jow Forums is a honeypot tracked by a number of agencies with ease of retrieving eho made the post. Whatever you once said here years ago can be found and will held you accountable.
I think the implementation of blockchan is still not up to par, as in the user experience, because most normies on Jow Forums and other boards wont or cannot adapt.
So this ain't it chief, but we do have a dire need for such a platform if we are to respect ourselves as individuals with free thoughts

well for this purpose it definitely is but there are some actual cases they can be useful . this case is so laughably stupid. probably just some undergrad cs student . but still better than sitting around shit posting all day

Nearly all cases where a blockchain is used, it would be far easier to implement with a mere database. This is one such case.

You don't even respect yourself.

No thanks. I'll just wait for infinity to come back up

>muh blockchain memetech
ICO scam incoming.

>Uncensorable
= Will inevitably be flooded with CP and pajeet/ruskie/chink spammers drowning out any worthwhile discussion

Attached: 1521715356650.png (600x550, 85K)

yeah exactly. when I first study block chains I thought of something similar to this but then I thought about it a little harder and realized how much of a bad idea it was. this was determined in a few hours max.

No shit a database is easier to implement, tbe idea of implementing blockchain has nothing to do with simplicity or good architecture philosophies.

You missed the target by a mile

Oh, because distributing a database is suddenly impossible.
What are you even using the blockchain for in this case? Why do you need the transaction ledgers?

Distributing a database attacks a different concern than using blockchain.

I'm actually surprised how blind you are to this.

Answer the damn question

I agree. this is just a case where someone started to code before thinking about the problem. cool new tool to use and just try to force it in.

Just assume I have no answers I guess.
Its far too shitty to explain whole concepts on this board to random individuals.
In other words, you're right.
I hope you're not in a position of authority at a meaningful tech company.

I would want someone to work for me that chooses to drive a nail with a hammer not a jigsaw. this is just a bad use case for a block chain. knowing that would only benefit a tech company lol. I hope when you finish your cs degree you have a better understanding

Truth.

Wrong. How would your simple centralized DBMS handle a DDoS? A disk failure? An ISP takedown? Right. We're not affected by any of this.

Attached: recruiting.png (600x523, 421K)

Some of the posters in this thread are literally beyond help. It's embarrassing.

Attached: kys.jpg (460x276, 12K)

oh cool a forum that's just gonna be nazi polshit. the internet really needs more of that.

If I were in a position of authority at a meaningful tech company, there would be far less attempts at reinventing the wheel but with a blockchain. And blockchain or not, I would ask the why of the implementation before starting a project.
You have no answers you have nothing, get out of my face.

There are multiple decentralized hosting projects that don't require meme chains.
>A disk failure
Goddamn, you don't even know what backups are for.
