I really don't want a self updating app like that on a mobile device. I'd prefer it to be via FDroid for security purposes, so I don't need to let every individual app update of its own accord and with barn door wide open permissions. Even if it was a 3rd party repo that was FDroid compliant it would be better.

Its not about if the individual program "asks" before update or not (though that could be a separate issue), but rather the idea that any mobile app can update of its own accord as opposed to being gated through one of the very limited apps with update management. On Android knowing that nothing can't update without making a record of itself through using PlayStore (YalpStore or whatever analog you're using here) or F-Droid is helpful.

We don't need that kind of fragmentation. Floens kept Clover updated within a pretty reasonable period on Fdroid. Having yet another version forked with another name for Kuroba, etc.. shouldn't be necessary. If cheese or whomever doesn't want to do it himself, then there should be one member of the community who is "officially" tasked with uploading new branches to Fdroid .

And not only they don't have half of those they dare to release their apps with fucking ads... only to abandon them sooner than Floens coming back to life to fix a typo in the readme and then die again.
