Anyone here use Lineage OS? I'm using a Redmi Note 4, not experiencing any problems or anything, it's just that the updates are coming less and less frequent. I'm wondering if I have any reason to change.

Used it and Pixel Experience on my (now dead) redmi note 5. Kinda glad it died since the headphone jack in it sounded like ass, got a G7 now, maybe will root when i have the free time, but there~s not a lot of reasons left to root with Blokada and Vanced working out of the box as intended.

Alternative ROMs are pretty much dead. The chinks killed it by undermining CyanogenMod, and the devs falling for the business meme

Unless lineage explicitly supports your device on their website, you have to rely on third party ports. They're still good either way, I have a pure android 9 on my galaxy S2 running like a champ.
Selling point is you can get root privileges and disable or not even install services you don't need. That's how I'm only using 400 RAM as opposed to 650 on my stock ROM making me swap all the time like an idiot.

I'm on the same boat.
Newer ROMs are either have too much ricer bullshit or literal Chinese bloatware pre installed.
ROM support is dying off it seems.

Pure android seems to be the way to go, That's essentially what I wanted except with Lineage i got to pick and choose which google shit I wanna install so i have only the essentials

It's officially supported, luckily. Guess I'll keep using it

Dead project. Haven't seen any new devices supported. Nexus 7 2013 has been abandoned. Enjoy having an insecure Android phone that never gets updated.

Lots of devices have android 9 with plans for android 10. Remember you can just compile the latest linux kernel and add any binaries you need, making you objectively more secure than the latest greatest $2000 toys.

It does get updated every once in a while but I'm not really looking for any new features as I use my phone minimally. If it remains exactly the same how it is now and secure I have no reason to change

Only thing you should get are Android One devices. These are supposedly at least supported for two years with security updates.

>insecure Android phone
What do you think could happen if you use "insecure" phone? I'm genuinely curious.

This. RIP Nokia 3.1 loved it till the end. Monthly updates.

>Android One
Those are so barebones it hurts usability.

You do realize Android is more than just the Linux kernel

They still have the entire google app store open to them. They just come with a specialised debloated google suite (which is actually pretty good per se).
If your kernel is secure, then your userspace is secure. Look up PrivacyGuard for instance. You can turn your android phone into qubes OS if you wanted to.

No it isn't. What the fuck do you need any extra shit for? There's a fucking app store.

Still good on my Moto X4. Runs smooth like butter.

>NIGHTLY
realy nigga

>wanting more India in an android phone
Yikes

No dual apps, not even call recorder. I need those for work.

same with mi a1
rajeet is taking a break right now.
before that it was constant upgrade after upgrade.
not like it's important lol most of the userspace is upgraded and it's not a server.
hack me I dare you, it's only been a month

>updates are coming less and less frequent
I quit updating it after they did that botched april-fool's joke (or whatever it was) and broke a bunch of people's shit. It only exists to run Signal anyway.

What?

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Please stop talking about any space like you know anything about it.

>I'm using a Redmi Note 4
>same with mi a1
All Xiaomi phones stopped getting updates because some Xiaomi blob got DMCA'd off GitHub. Apparently they'll start getting builds again when the situation is resolved, but it's been over a month now, so you might have to wait a while. Unfortunately, this means you won't get the August 5 ASB until builds start again.

Well alright, I can live with that I guess

well, there are unofficial builds but I'm not touching that.
Also I don't flash right away usually.
The last Mi A1 update got deleted because it didn't boot.

You also have to wipe your data if you switch from an official signed build to an unofficial build, even if you build it yourself. I'm just going to wait it out for now.

LOS only releases nightly builds, not an issue IMO if you don't enable automatic updates and DYOR. I've never had an unstable release on this phone so far.

>le stable weekly/monthly upgrade
nigga really

What so incredible feature would you miss on an Android One phone, to the point that it renders the phone unusable?

the one guy who bothered to maintain it for my phone model just stopped updating and made us all lose support because he wanted to add in some pointless feature that goes against lineageos's policy. i fucking hate the android custom rom scene.

Dual apps for example so I can use same phone for work.

well when you consider it's people essentially working for free in a market that shouldn't really even exist, it's better than what i'd expect it to be

I was wondering why there weren't any updates, thanks for letting us know

Just flash Havoc OS dummy

>dual apps
Shelter from f-droid

As in GOOGLE/Linux or GOOGLE+Linux?
