If you don't understand why a child can't consent, just look at how small and meek it is. Not only in stature, but also, and especially so, in manner. It has very little to do with the child's poor judgement due to being incompletely developed, and everything to do with the difference in social status between the child and the adult.

A child is barely a person under law. It has basically no rights, and any rights it does have are protected only by harsh post-hoc punishments for violators thereof, not by free exercise on the child's part in the first place. A child is basically property. Cherished property -- property regarded as crucial in shaping the future -- property that everyone agrees must be respected as human and doted upon -- but property all the same.

There's a certain effect living as someone else's property has on a person's mind. That effect takes some time to dissipate after the person has been emancipated -- hence why 18 year olds are still mentally immature, and rapidly begin maturing after that age.

A part of that effect is eager obedience. Even the most obstinant minor will seek to do whatever is asked of them, if begrudgingly, and when it's not clear what they should be doing, they'll always look to the adults around them. Sometimes they'll pick up on cues we don't even know we're giving them.

In other words, coercing a minor is not only easy, but almost completely unavoidable if one interacts with them at all. You'd have to be a prodigy of psychology to prevent a minor from guessing what you want from them and feeling pressured to give it to you.

There really isnt much reasoning necessary to see that the reason a minor can't consent is because their puny social status makes it impossible to interact with one in any way without automatically exerting coercive influence upon them.
