What worked for me was bf basically tugging me in a blanket tightly so I barelly moved and changing my sleep schedule a bit so I fell asleep before he did and he could find enough space in bed for himself after. Barelly had any complaints once we figured it out.
To give you an idea of how bad I actually am, I'm sleeping on something size of a full double bed nowdays and I always struggle to find enough space even though I'm pretty small myself.
Just be reasonable about it, its not his fault you're waking him up in the middle of the night.
