I did SL 5x5 until I could do 1/2/3/4. By the time I could 3/4 my OHP and Bench was over that though. Then switched to PHUL and still do compounds.
I think they're fun as fuck and always challenging to do when you have to apply max effort, sometimes even feels like an adrenaline kick. What I do think is boring is pumping my biceps and chest for 1 hour, but I still do that to look good.

the idea behind a strength routine is that you get strong, then switch to a bodybuilding split routine so that you're moving around a decent amount of weight which equals more growth. not much growth if you're moving around light weight because you never got strong before switching to a hypertrophy routine.

In short it's good for the first 3-6 months of a gym noob, and there's nothing fundamentally wrong with it.

Also your big guys at the gym are still doing compounds like lat pulldowns, dips, and leg press.

I was 198cm tall at 120kg about 6 months ago and have been there most my life. Now I am down to 105kg and I've also cut all empty carbs. Just by stopping drinking sugar, eating proper dinner meals and intermittent fasting daily with 16:8 I've lost 15kg in 6 months.
