i found an online listing for a job as an audio transcriber today, i think i'm gonna apply for it
kinda pays peanuts, but it's work from home when you want and pays per audio transcribed, so it could be pretty comfy work while i look for something more lucrative

i was about to start doing that but then i started my current job soon after i was offered that. supposedly it's very tedious and annoying but like you said, it pays per audio transcribed so you can devote as much time as you like. seemed a good option to me at the time. hopefully you don't get any audio that's too shitty.
remember to post anything top secret you hear on Jow Forums for the world to see

yeah, it's certainly not something i'd want to be doing forever. the reviews do seem to stress the low pay and bad "grading system" for the quality of your transcriptions, but those same people say that it'd be impossible to work at a decent pace without typing "like 60 or 70 words a minute!" and it is a no-requirements position so i take it all with a grain of salt
worst case doesn't really hurt to do it for a week and then stop

i'm curious to see what kind of stuff they send for transcribing. i know polling and research companies like gallup and gfk use services like that so it's probably phone conversations and maybe lectures from conferences, etc. what kind of company is offering the job?

that far? i don't think so. when i was in quebec we went whale watching in the st. lawrence river, i think that's as far north i've been. didn't really seem arctic there. huge river though, i thought it was a bay. i only found out it was a river when i looked at a map later
