I've never worked with coreboot before, but I think me_cleaner cuts the native ME code down from several megabytes to something like 100 kilobytes. They try to remove everything they can without making the computer spaz out. What's left is mostly not the part that you need to about. It's all pretty arcane stuff, though, so who knows?

That's not what I'm flashing. I'm flashing 100% free firmware, which means you can literally look at the source code and change it yourself if you want.

The original code on the computer is what you have far more of a reason to scruple.

Qubes may serve a practical purpose for some people, but most of the time it's a meme.

Compartmentalization only mitigates the threat to information integrity and confidentiality. That's not usually the threat posed by running sketchy programs or opening sketchy files. Also, such an attack rarely happens as long as you're careful. Run a VM yourself if you want.

It's the government trying to see what you've been up to. Those kinds of attacks target machines at a lower level of abstraction. Qubes still has an underlying operating system, and that's the main threat to your security, just like any other operating system.
