Genesis 6 speaks about the general go of history, mankind becoming corrupted, angels mating with humans creating the nephilim etc happened across multiple 100 years and includes the time where the bits in the later chapters already happened. And at some point where all this played out God restricted our lives to 120 years which happened after the time with noah. And turns out those guys which supposedly didnt live past 40 at those times if you trust the common oppinion knew that we pretty much cant live past 120 which fits the oldest people we know of.

The later chapters are more detailed tellings of parts that played during Genesis 6
