At 20mbps because I'm on shitty 2.4ghz wifi, otherwise it should be around 100mbps with an ethernet cable. Currently paying around 15€/month but that's only for a year.

Dishonest comparison. The technology involved is completely different and rendered useless outside of the small urban areas it was implimented. Your fibre infrastructure is literally designed for the small space and only the small space. It does not scale like the approach required for large distances. The only way the USA would be able to emulate something like that is expanding the urban sprawl densely packed across most of landmass and establish tens of thousands of small connecting fibre optic hubs.
It was the corporate push which set up the national wide broadband backbone in the USA in the first place, mostly funded by Silicon Valley. Without that earlier start, it would be very different today, maybe even dogshit like it is in Australia.

I used to have a 15mbps connection a couple years ago.
t.bh I can't notice any difference between 15 and 50. Most websites don't give users enough DL speed to make the difference matter during browsing. I pirate movies and games, so I rarely get more than 2.5 MB/s while downloading big files.

Nah man, thats to the node. My friend lived in place with fibre to the premises (it was newly built) and it was only slightly faster but had shit loads of drop outs and ping spikes, not to mention they put the big NBN box in his built in wardrobe so the thing got super hot in summer.

But hes now on FTTN too and is on about 70-80mbps down

The thing you have to keep in mind about these connections in the hundreds of megabits is that very few servers are actually going to give you that speed. Unless you're going to watch Netflix on five devices at once or something like that, you're paying for more than you actually need.
