It boils down to the question of how do you define language. For instance Low German dialects are not mutually intelligible with Hochdeusch and yet they are considered dialects of German.
As Max Weinreich said, a language is a dialect with an army and navy.

Slovak Lutherans used Slovakized Czech as their language of lithurgy since the Reformation. Slovene orthology is also based on yours.

Swedish, Norwegian and Danish are mutually intelligible too.
