Looking for a job overseas

if i wanted to get a job in the hospitality/service industry in germany as an aussie, what do i need apart from decent skills at the language? i have over a year experience in the hospitality industry as a waiter but i have picked up plenty of other skills whilst working in restaurants such as barista skills, OH&S knowledge, and hosting.
i don't think something like this would be happening for at least a year or two as my german skills are quite poor and im studying at university but is it a possibility for me?

You’d need a visa for a start. Do you have any discernable qualifications or skills?

Or are you a young African or Arab man?

no, we don't want people like you

>You’d need a visa for a start
yes i think this is obvious, but im not talking about logistics.
just the skills ive mentioned and if that meant i was pigeonholed as a dishwasher somehwere, that would be perfectly ok with me.
im anglo.

serious answers please.
whether or not you like immigrants, is it actually possible for someone like me?

Swiss girls are prettier and you'd have a better wage. Why Germany?

im learning the language but i suppose it doesn't limit me to just germany, i could consider austria or switzerland. but i know some people from germany in which i could possibly stay with but then again, it's not a concrete idea, just something i'd love to do.

no, you will feel alone because of your lack of German skills and you will fail at managing everything by yourself, especially the amount of bureaucracy that's required for people like you... then you will bitch around how shitty Germany is and you will want to go back to your kangaroo friends... immigrants are only welcome if they are highly specialized professionals who actually contribute to society >inb4 muh rapefugees

Do it and don't let the German posters get you down. They literally let in millions of Turks and Arabs. One white Australian guy who probably has German heritage anyway who is learning the language and will be a civilized man is no problem. Go!!

But Swiss girls are prettier. They're more petite and have gentler faces. Better demographics and Switzerland is based

well like i said, i don't think i'd be moving there for at least a year or two mainly because my german skills are poor at this time, hence why im going to uni to study the language. but my uni offers study abroad as well so that would probably be the best opportunity to work, live and study there.
indeed, my last name is german afterall so i can't imagine they'd have a hard time accepting me.

Don't underestimate how difficult it is learning a language without being exposed to the country/culture. You WILL struggle, no matter how much you will have learnt in those two years, which isn't even much in order to properly learn German or any other language. And btw, don't be surprised if you won't understand shit after you've grown the balls to come here, since dialects are unfortunately a thing. It's similar to coming to Britain as a non-native English speaker after having learnt many years, but even more complex with much stronger deviations accross the country. The north basically speaks a totally different language than the south. And so does the west compared to the east with a wild mix in-between.
If you really want to stand a chance, then you will have to do EVERYTHING during those two years in German. Even thinking. And you should already have started last week. So good luck with your eager endeavours.

>my uni offers study abroad
Then take advantage of that.

Cringe posts typed by circumcised mutts with cheeto dust on their fingers

Oh, and in regards to going to Switzerland or Austria instead, those "dialects" can't even be considered dialects, especially Swiss """""German"""""....
ANd what I also forgot is your career choice. It's not really a career, so don't be surprised if your efforts will be wasted in a big, sad surprise.

you make a good argument and i completely agree. my uni offers a very comprehensive german program and while this won't be enough to fully grasp the nuances of the language, it is probably the best starting point. but apart from the language, im just wondering if there would be anything else holding me back such as the nature of a working visa, cost of living, jobs available appropriate for my skill level etc.
the best way to learn the language is, like you said, to actually live in the country and so working there would be a great opportunity to accelerate my skills at an unprecedented level.

My friend is from Swabia and understands Swiss German

He's lying or talking about light Swiss German stuff. But since Swabian already is considered an illness, he's probably right.

Berlin has low living costs, good infastructure, and many job oppurtunities. Switzerland will break your budget and its impossible to move there without being an EU citizen, these mutts act like they can take a plane anywhere and stay there forever. You will also have trouble with the work permit because you are not from the EU and the people hiring you have to fill out a shitton of paperwork that they could not find an EU citizen to do the job and convince the immigration authorities to approve you. Most don't bother with it because they can find a Pole or Romanian that works for 5 euros an hour.

i believe the abroad option is not until second or third year for people studying german but i will check with the uni to see if the process can be expedited. im studying linguistics alongside german and i doubt a german college/uni wouldn't offer the same program.
yeah swiss german sounds weird even to me.
i feel teaching english abroad is probably my best prospect, obviously not in the public sector but in a private capacity. is this career choice just too saturated?
why? he was being pretty optimistic albeit a little racist.

Swabian and Swiss German are in the same group of dialects called Alemannian. He told me it took him a few weeks to adjust to Zürich German but now understands them perfectly.

oof, that's a little concerning. i guess i'd have to really sell myself.

Berlin is unironically, honestly and genuinely talking a certified shithole. Most people over there also don't speak German, as it's packed with Turks and working immigrants who only speak English. It's not uncommon to find waiters doing a side-job who only speak English and don't know German for shit. I am hopefully not encouraging OP here.

Attached: germany without berlin.jpg (960x684, 264K)

OP here
i never considered the north, i was looking at munich
i really dont want to move to a different country only to be surrounded by people who speak broken english.

Its ugly and dirty but its cheap as fuck to live in. Bavaria is very beautiful, safe, and rich, but more expensive. And Berlin offers an entreprenuer visa called "artists visa" but anyone can apply for it if they are self employed.

perhaps berlin is a good starting point. it's not like i wouldn't pick up the language just because a few immigrants can't speak german

Münich is a good idea and they also speak Standard German in the city. Have you thought about doing your Masters in Germany? Its free tuition and you can work while studying and you will look more prospective to German employers when you graduate

btw, this extremely popular Dota commentator lived in Berlin for 5+ years and hasn't even learnt A FUCKING SINGLE WORD OF GERMAN... He couldn't even pronounce Döner properly. H U R E N S O H N
Berlin is considered East, not North
Other valid options are (the regions of) Bonn/Cologne/Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Hanover, Stuttgart and Frankfurt.

>they also speak Standard German in the city
LOL, definitely not
Berlin is a shithole, as I've said

Attached: german-dialects.png (1653x1323, 144K)

if my degree is transferable (which i assume it is), i would definitely consider finishing it abroad, but im still only first year anyway so im just trying to consider my options for the future.
it's definitely not a bad idea so i will have to make it a extreme possibility.
my bad but my point still stands, i was really only look at bavaria but i started this thread because im looking for information and see if what i have in mind is feasible.

Berlin is pretty good, its a bit rundown and dirty but thats just the continent. Lots of Turks and shit but its still definitely german. I think its the south east which is the shittest part. But i lived there for 3 months and it was nice.
Insanely cheap, stuff to do, easy to get around because its physically a really small city for its population

München CITY speaks Standard German, I visited there and have a friend that studied there. Once you are outside the city they speak their strange dialect.

>Berlin is a shithole, as I've said
but for someone like me it might be the best option, a "gateway" to live in europe so to speak. it wasn't on my radar though.

>shit murricans say
Do you really want to tell ME what people in Munich speak? lel

"The official language of Munich is German. However, “Standard German” stands out as the dominant spoken language in Munich as the city comprises a huge number of emigrants and ethnic communities."

You are thinking of tourist spots here... Even business people don't speak proper High-German over there. That's how it is. Don't even try to tell me anything about the language which people in my country speak.

"German language courses are a growing industry in the city, as more people look to relocate to the city for work, and as with many other places, some language schools are better than others. Munich University has provided an official list of language schools which they endorse. Check out the list here.

The other language you will hear a lot of course is Bayrisch, or Bavarian. This is a traditional dialect which is spoken in the provinces and villages around Munich."

Here's an article in German talking about how Bayrisch is dying in München.
tz.de/muenchen/stadt/na-servus-in-muenchen-redet-fast-keiner-mehr-bairisch-9551083.html

thanks for sharing friend, i will definitely be sure to check out berlin as an option.

Why does the Germ in this thread hate foreigners so much? Did a foreigner take his job?

perhaps spends too much time on Jow Forums. i hope it's not an indication of a typical german attitude.

Yes, dialects are more rare in big cities, but that doesn't mean that people in Munich will speak High-German. It's a light(er) version of Bavarian. Speaking dialect is also being frowned upon among people younger than 50 or so. Still, even young people do have a dialect over there. You can try to argue as much as you want, it doesn't change the fact that it's not High-German. And how comprehensible it is for non-native German speakers, I can't tell you. For native speakers it can cause troubles sometimes, and I'm not talking about real Bavarian, because that's just utter gibberish and completely unintelligible.

first post was a meme, in all the remaining ones I'm just telling the truth to uninformed, gullible people who think it's easy to learn a foreign language and emigrate
fuck off, I won't ever visit this internet cesspool in my life

Can't really help you there, but I can tell you that I would LOVE to have more migrants from western nations. I'll be happy if you make it, bro.

>uninformed, gullible people
unrelated to the thread i assume? as you've noticed in my posts ive stated many times that i realise my poor german skills won't allow me to work and that simply studying at university is not enough to fully grasp the language.

I have literally been there and everyone spoke High German. The only thing that was different was that they greet you saying 'Servus!' Here is someone saying he is confused that no one speaks Bavarian in Munich:

gutefrage.net/frage/wieso-spricht-in-muenchen-niemand-mehr-bayrisch---bayerisch---bairisch

yes... I have just seen too many naive people who think it's a good idea to come here because >muh tuition fees

Danke, Brudi

I'm from Munich and I hear people speak Bavarian all the time. I don't think the number of Bavarians has decreased, I think the number of non-Bavarians has increased because Munich is an attractive city and a lot of people from abroad and other parts of Germany have moved here.

fair enough. so in your opinion, do you think i'd enjoy germany as an aussie? does germany like aussies?

>does germany like aussies?

Fuck yes. As I said, I'm from Munich. Aussie Oktoberfest visitors are the BEST.

The person asking this question is comparing the light version (which I've told you about) with the real Bavarian which he/she finds so nice. This doesn't contradict with anything what I've just said.

don't bank on just being able to learn it though. German is way harder than english with all the cases. Im the guy who lived there for 3 months and by the end i knew a decent amount of words and could order a kebab in german but no way i could have any conversation at all

hell yes cunt. also ive worked at the brisbane oktoberfest twice now, seriously a great atmosphere. obviously it's not on the scale of munich but it captures the feeling well i think.
pic related is me and the uniform they gave me

Attached: picrelated.jpg (1440x807, 248K)

yeah i agree that the eloquent nature of german (this is what i'll call it) makes it far more difficult for english learners, but i find it very fun. the case system in particular i find fascinating.

I must have really confused you with my first aborigine-post... As the Munich guy already said here , people from western countries are always welcome and very well seen here, but this depends on your attitude and eagerness

I am from Canada. I came to Münich to do my Master's in accounting. After I graduated I found a job offers despite not having EU citizenship. In one year I will be able to apply for German citizenship, and then I can live and work anywhere in Europe, but I think I will stay here. You should come here, I live in Bamberg and it's a gorgeous city. Life is nice here and better than in Canada. I don't have any student debt, housing is affordable here unlike in Canada, healthcare is very good and cheap, (unlike in Canada where I'd be stuck on years long waiting lists for doctors appointments), and people are slimmer and happier here.

Pic related is Bamberg, where I live
