Lots of regular high schools have a JROTC program. Only a third of the members actually join in the military. Only benefit is that it lets you skip a few ranks when you enlist (you would have been promoted to those ranks anyway in the time it takes to complete JROTC).
The smarter ones don't want to be bitch boy enlistees so they join a university ROTC to become commissioned officers. From what I've heard, ROTC cadets who never came from the JROTC hate those that did because ex-JROTC are smug cunts that always brag about it.
