She's a Saudi Arabian girl, the daughter of a high ranking government official. She has always been a bit free thinking ad secular and as a result her father and brother routinely beat her.
She was in, I think Thailand recently and decided she was never going back to Saudi Arabia. The Saudi government (that her dad is part of) asked that she be returned, Thailand agreed but before they could get her she got a lawyer and they turned it over to the media. Once the media got the story and decided that she would definitely be beaten and most likely killed if she went back to Saudi Arabia Thailand decided not to send her back and would not giver her location to her father when he went there to fetch her.
Then countries started talking about who would take her in and save her from her crazy Saudi family. The frontrunners were Australia and Canada, but of course Trudeau, always trying to push his pro-feminist, home-to-all, agenda took her in before anyone really had time to look at all the problems a decision like this might create down the road (Canada might now be expected to take in every Muslim woman that claims her family is abusive). It may also just be a fuck you to Saudi Arabia,if you remember Canada and Saudi Arabia were fighting a month or two ago.

It was a bit simpler than that. Abuse was never proven, our medical examiners found zero signs of it and she refused to be examined too closely, citing her Islamic upbringing and (the same thing she had supposedly renounced) and her dad came all the way over to talk to her and even said he respected her decision but that she probably felt neglected being in a big family. Most evidence seems to support his account and her being really picky about where she wanted to go (first Anglosphere nations, THEN specifically Canada) while expressing almost no gratitude for the people who helped her along the way suggests she took everyone for a ride so she could get a free ticket to permanent residency in the country she always wanted "find herself in."

I never did hear a lot of that. I listened to an interview with her lawyer so that's obviously biased, judging by his accent he was either American or Canadian. They did say that the abuse was mostly mental and that she was detained a lot to her room or house.
Even if her dad is 100% telling the truth and she is 100% lying, there's no doubt that Saudi Arabia isn't really great for women. That's what is concerning to me, basically any woman in Saudi Arabia is somewhat oppressed and abused and I doubt we plan to take them all in.
