Spanish Black Legend

Did you ever wonder why most of what you learn about Spain in school seems to be bad? This is part of a centuries old campaign to paint Spain in a bad light made by enemies such as Britain or Netherlands for a long time.
For instance, we all know about the Spanish armada that suffered great losses and had to retreat but barely anyone knows of the english counter-armada that failed miserably in Spain despite having better luck with the weather.
Or you might also have heard that spain as a colonial power was ruthless when in reality the british colonists were much more bloody and Spain treated the colonies as Spanish provinces starting in the 18th century while Britain never even considered that and only wanted to exploit the 13 colonies and Africa
Even the global currency nowadays, the US Dollar, was originally based on the Spanish dollar (peso del 8), wich was the de facto USA currency before they created the USD. The Spanish Dollar itself was the first global currency.

Kill yourself

I find it interesting how subtle parts of the Spanish black legend still persist to this day.
>Spaniards who came to the New World seeking opportunities beyond the prospects of their European environment are contemptuously called cruel and greedy "goldseekers," or other opprobrious epithets virtually synonymous with Devils; but Englishmen who sought New World opportunities are more respectfully called "colonists," or "homebuilders," or "seekers after liberty."
>When Spaniards expelled or punished religious dissidents that was called "bigotry," "intolerance," "fanaticism" ... When Englishmen, Dutchmen, or Frenchmen did the same thing, it is known as "unifying the nation,"...
basically, Spain lost the propaganda war, and the results are still present in the modern world.

yeah we're taught about the black legend and the influence of anglo propaganda

Well you DID ship a lot of gold from those colonies, is that not true?

we know you all are shit.

>

>tfw italians started the black legend

although at first you called us barbarians due the visigothic kingdom

>Tlaloc is the god of rain, water, and earthly fertility.[37] The Aztecs believed that if sacrifices were not supplied for Tlaloc, rain would not come, their crops would not flourish, and leprosy and rheumatism, diseases caused by Tlaloc, would infest the village.[38]
>Archaeologists have found the remains of at least 42 children sacrificed to Tlaloc at the Great Pyramid of Tenochtitlan. Many of the children suffered from serious injuries before their death, they would have to have been in significant pain as Tlaloc required the tears of the young as part of the sacrifice. The priests made the children cry during their way to immolation: a good omen that Tlaloc would wet the earth in the raining season.[39]

Spain just did what had to be done.

>Tlaloc required the tears of the young as part of the sacrifice

what a cunt

Wtf i love italy now
Most countries just pass the WASP propaganda as facts

Lmaoooo

There's no such thing as a black legend.

>On 17 November the Spaniards sacked the Inca army camp, in which they found great treasures of gold, silver, and emeralds. Noticing their lust for precious metals, Atahualpa offered to fill a large room about 22 feet (6.7 m) long and 17 feet (5.2 m) wide up to a height of 8 feet (2.4 m) once with gold and twice with silver within two months.[37] It is commonly believed that Atahualpa offered this ransom to regain his freedom. But Hemming says that he did so to save his life. None of the early chroniclers mention any commitment by the Spaniards to free Atahualpa once the metals were delivered.[38] After several months in fear of an imminent attack from general Rumiñahui, the outnumbered Spanish considered Atahualpa to be too much of a liability and decided to execute him.

I never learned much about Spain in school, tbqh. A lot of the later history taught was just muh slavery and the six gorillion.

Part of this alleged "black legend" seems to be around religious and philosophical differences at the time, as well as political rivalry. And to be fair, even that article claims this supposed legend didn't start with us or the Dutch.

Some anti-Spanish bias no doubt lingered on during the later ascendancy of Anglo powers, but the decline of Spanish power had already been set in motion by French victories on the continent.

people don't care about non white countries such as spain, it would be part of african history such as mali.

The oldest towns in your country were built by Spaniards, DeKeywon.

we read native american history too.

Spanish propaganda

There's still no question that Spain was a pseudo-medieval theocracy under the complete iron control of the Catholic Church and was much more authoritarian than England, or that it had very little in the way of a middle class and the wealth from the colonies wasn't used to buy bling for the Church and the grandees instead of investing in any kind of industry.

Also during the late 17th century the country nearly collapsed from famine, epidemics, and ruinous inflation while being ruled by a deformed freak of a king.

the entire gold mined in 10 years is a tiny amount compared to what latin american countries mine in a single month.

You mean then and today? Because that's not really the issue.

That's no way to talk to your father.

Fuck Anglos. Viva España

I completely agree with you. Fuck wh*te dogs, long live SPAIN

Visited St Augustine a few months ago. Apparently there for there never fell, but you guys kept the area a back water, while the British made it self sustaining within two decades
