I thinking about buying one of these new for $25k, draining the fluids, and putting it into storage. I will then sell it to so some /o/tist for $100k 20 years from now, which would give me at least a $1k yearly return on the investment.
I am betting on the idea that the auto industry is going in the direction of self-driving SUV's and crossovers, which means a car like this will become extremely rare and valuable in mint condition.
Baby boomers will be selling their exotic car collections during the next financial crisis. Everyone in this thread is a retard
Asher Morgan
Buy 00-05 e46 m3s
That one Need for speed game will make that car a classic
Samuel Bell
literally not going to happen. EVs do not scale because the battery inputs are scarce. EVs are a fad
Thomas Diaz
might work, if you're sure you've got a place to store it for 20 years and that's not going to cost you much. Better cars though if you're going to do this, just spend a bit more.
Camden Martin
do it
Brandon Bailey
I bet if you put your money into a stock index ETF and compound the dividends, you will have more money after 20 years, and you won't have a random car taking up precious storage space.
Carson Fisher
86s are absolutely shit cars, and will be remembered alongside the likes of the 180SX.
You'd be unironically better off doing it with a mint condition NA MX-5, but that would still be a terrible decision.
David Rivera
Oh and if lithium or whatever is scarce and prices rise then new mining exploration companies will find more deposits and provide the necessary supply. That's how the mining cycle works.
Its a Toyota, so that won't happen. You'd have to buy a rare Ferrari or something, and guess what you can't.
Carson Williams
wtf are you stupid? have you bothered looking at production numbers for these things?
Colton Roberts
>diamonds will never change. the jews control them
Nolan Cook
Yes I have. They are low and Toyota is likely to pull the plug on the model soon
Blake Jackson
90% of you guys are dumbfucks. OP, buy a car that has intrinsic value. You're going to have to spend quite a bit of money tho. Buying a car like the Corvette ZR1 (C6 version) would be a wise choice. That will be a HIGHLY desirable car 30 years from now. You have to buy the top of the line vehicle. Examples: Nissan GTR Black Edition, Corvette ZR1, Any Yenko Camaro's, Mustang Super Snake ect. Base models will not appreciate in value like that. Also, for you dumbfucks questioning his motives, why not just give him better advice? There are Cobalt mining stocks you could invest in since you're anticipating an EV dominant market. The EV bullshit will happen & when it does we won't have gas powered vehicles anymore (*cough collectible*). You would also have to undercoat whatever car you're buying & put it in a temp controlled garage (it will rust if you don't undercoat it). Buy a car that you enjoy, but not as an investment. Buy Cobalt or Lithium mining stocks if you want to invest in the EV revolution.
Cameron James
The Toyota 86 doesn't have a V8 engine. If it did I would say buy it. However, they're slow & different from the other vehicles I mentioned on my last. They're "track fast", but not what people are going to be looking for 30 years from now. If you buy a C6 ZR1 with low miles & drain it I bet you will be sitting on a $300,000 car 40-50 years from now.
Thomas Martinez
>Pull the plug >Just as they release the GR brand >Also just as they release two other cars planned to become "The Three Brothers (TM)
They might release a new, slightly higher priced and GR-branded model alongside the S-FR/MR2, but the 86 nameplate isn't going away any time soon. Toyota's putting a lot of effort into starting GR, they're not going to give up on what is currently one of their best selling sports cars of all time.
Andrew Green
Those are still going to be produced though. Their is always going to be a market for high end sports car.
In fact, those are going to be the only non-autonomous cars still produced. Cars like the 86 aren't. There is no point in producing such an autonomous car. it's not practical at all. Large, roomy self driving vehicles will be the norm.
But there's still going to be enthusiasts who want to buy cars like the 86 and tune them. Look at what happened to the Supra and other similar cars in the 90's - they are going for over twice MSRP with mileage and that was without the autonomous revolution that's about to come.
Logan Flores
There are very few notable cars with a Subaru Boxer engine.
The 86 is not one.
2020 carbon fiber skyactiv-x mx-5 will make every other 4 pot, pedestrian safety blob obsolete (on track).
Anthony Ramirez
How much are S12 Gazelles going for nowadays user? They're from the 80s, so they should cost even more. For a 90s example, try the 180SX. They're all cheap because they were shitty cars when they were new.
If you want to compare Supras from the 90s, why not buy a 2019 Supra? Pro tip: NA Supras are going for $10-15k if you're lucky.
Ryder Phillips
It's not about the "autonomous revolution". It's about the EV revolution. Cars like the Acura NSX are already hybrids. The V8 will be extinct in the next 10 years. Cars that have a V8 will become highly desirable. The Toyota 86 is frowned upon by most car enthusiasts. It will probably be worth more money, but I doubt it will appreciate in value like a C6 ZR1 will. You can pickup a used ZR1 for 60K +. The future Corvettes, GTR's, & Camaro's will be electric. True car enthusiasts typically hate electric cars. That's why the classical style V8 will be desirable.
Joseph Jones
Just to clarify I'm selling my Corvette GS for a ZR1 next year. If you look at older classic cars, the more powerful versions are always worth more $$$. Ex: Barracuda vs Cuda.
Jacob Nelson
You are such a boomer it hurts.
Nobody wants your shitty vette.
Thomas Johnson
Yet make well over 100K a year. Buying a McLaren 570S next year as well. Have fun driving your electric powered Corolla in 2040 lmao
>Implying electric cars aren't cool Have fun getting smoked in your 570S (aka "the miata of supercars") by an Ariel Hipercar that costs 1/3 of the price.
Michael Turner
That car has like 200hp essentially a piece of shit
Alex, Ill take inflation and value of money for $500
also you're a moron, not to be confused with a Mormon, who are generally nice ppl.
Brandon Martinez
if you really want to buy a jap car and hold it I'd get the new supra. Otherwise get something with a fuckhuge engine like camaro or mustang
David Scott
All these fucking car experts and I'm the only one who even mentioned proper storage. You think you can just leave a car with a sheet over it in your uncle's garage for 20 years like they do in the movies? Hope you like full bare metal resprays, kek. Also it's taken all night for someone to mention the word inflation. You really are the dumbest of all boards, biz.
Faggot. Don't invest in something that is massly produced. I'd get something that's rather rare and could be in demand by other buyers. A mint conditioned E30 would sound like a good idea to invest, but a shitbox Goyota? Ohno
Parker Watson
Also OP you shouldn't drain all the fluids. If you want to put a car into storage you should fill the engine up to the top of the filler with a nice mineral oil to prevent any corrosion.
Asher Reed
You need cars that;
1. Are going to be displayed in media to jog people's nostalgia of the time period (Delorean for example).
2. Historically relevant cars (Hitler's Mercedes or James Dean's Porsche)
3. Or cars that are simply a meme because they embody something that is perceived as fun because of extreme power/performance/uniqueness.
4. Are rare enough to warrant being collected in the first place.
Here's my list;
E36 M3 E46 M3 SL55 Mercedes SL63 Mercedes E39 M5 E60 M5 (last manual M5) Unmodified JDM cars from the 90s like the original WRX/ turbo Supras. Maybe some American cars from the 80s/90s/00s, but I don't know about those.
You buy low mileage cars on the second hand market about 10 years after they were initially built, miss out out on the initial depreciation, and after that you'll have to hold the cars for another 10 to 30 years for them to be worth anything.
Oh, and you need to have a large enough area to store them safely without niggers stealing them, children damaging them or corrosion fucking them up.
It's not a way to get rich quickly.
Sebastian Bailey
Unironically guns can be a decent investment if you know what to look for. They're easier to flip than cars and are better at both retaining and increasing in value long term.
Logan Moore
You'll get a higher return on magic the gathering cards lmao
Michael Evans
That car won't appreciate OP. It's not a Lexus LFA. Look at Miatas today. 20 year old ones cost 5k, not 100k. This is the same situation. The car needs a certain rarity. It is for this same reason I don't think Nissan GTRs will appreciate either
Julian Ross
Also much cheaper to store and much easier to keep in pristine condition.
Gabriel Ortiz
And you can use your guns to stop people from taking your guns.
Julian Turner
If you can't get higher than a 4x ROI in 20 years, you fucking suck
Carter Hughes
Inflation aint shit. Sure beats leaving your money in the bank earning.0000000001% interest. I also mentioned proper storage. You have to undercoat the vehicle. Vehicles without fluid in them can rust from the inside out as well, so this is a risky venture for a car that I can't see being desirable in 30 years.
Xavier Robinson
I can buy a bike that smokes just about any "car" on the road. The Miata of supercars lmfao! Should I buy a Lamborghini Huracan instead? Oh wait...Lamborghini decided to be cheap fucks and left out the Lambo doors :P
Colton Adams
That's literally just because of an anime
Ryder Bennett
the new 86 isn't lightweight either retard.
Cameron Fisher
>that 30 yo boomer who can't afford a boomervette but thinks mustangs are for boomers so buys a $30k toyota corolla with a body kit so he can nimbly navigate the bumper to bumper traffic on his daily commute.
Are you dense or actually mentally retarded? Just wondering...
Zachary Wood
there will never be a next generation of "classic cars" because cars nowadays are built with chips , injectors and power options. do you even cars?
Juan Rogers
I'm only coming in here as a 2013 FR-S owner, have had it since Scion launched the car. DON'T DO IT OP! It's slow, forced induction mods are a pain, and it doesn't have the best transmission foundation. I had to remove some mods so it wasn't annoying to drive. I hate it, it's so slow, and I wish I kept my Evo X
Now that's a car that you should find and drain fluids of, a stock low mileage Evo X, Evo IX, or WRX STi.
Dominic Diaz
>this entire thread is full of retards who unironically believe manually operated vehicles will be legally on the road in 20 years
You are some deeply out of touch retards. No wonder you play with cars.
Levi Collins
All of you are so closed minded and short sighted. Does anyone on this board even live in the present!? Material things bearly have value to millennials today, a digital cryptocat has more value than some current cars right now. The value of having a car will plummet in a few years. You don't care for a plane because you don't need one in your life except for emergencies and vacations, flying cars never happened because there was no real need for them, things came to us, McDonald's and Walmart built a store nearby so you don't have to fly, now they deliver to your door so you won't have to drive. Combine that with Netflix killing the movie theater and vr killing the appeal of real life environments like parks and sporting events and the next generation will grow up without the love or passion to own a car, just like how we don't have a passion to own a horse. People will pay more to look cool in VR world than in real life. Ford has seen the writing on the wall, which is why it will discontinue making cars, opting to create SUVs which will become the ground Boeing's of the future. Want a 1990 Supra in 2030? You'll be able to 3D print one in an hour and FaceTime a Toyota 'legacy" or "traditions" technician to run a tune so it runs like a car from the time period or to 2030 regulatory specifications. It will cost as much as getting a walkman or nes game is now. I'm sorry to say but it will be so much better to drive in VR than in real life in the future.
Henry Walker
This is a good point, I think the costs will need to come down for some things like ride sharing or other means of transport, but not having to pay for gas, insurance, maintenance will be a welcome thing for society
Josiah White
checked and also /thread
Automated driving is less than 10 years away, used car market will be absolutely gone and non existent in 20 years, probably less.
Eli Wood
no one will pay 100k for this mass produced shitbox in 20 years in 20 years it will be worth 5k tops
Luis Wilson
Car companies are already preparing for the moment ride sharing is cheaper than owning. Cadillac offers a $1500 month to month rental service where you can choose any new top trim level car or SUV and switch it out using an app at anytime. no lease, maintenance cost, insurance, unlimited miles, flat rate. Imagine in the next five years Mercedes or Toyota doing the same thing for $400-600 a month, that's alot of people car payment without insurance right there! And you get to choose and switch out cars when you want!? The future will be wild!
Logan Young
If the choice is a 100k 2018 Toyota ae86 or a $500/month "Best of Toyota: 1980-2030 modern vintage heritage" rental package where I can choose a brand new reproduced 1985 Celica Supra or 2020 MR2 or any car in between!? Not to mention the choice of different manufacturers like a BMW m rental package or Ferrari rental package for around the same price(my guess is that $500 a month will be the cars equivalent of a $50 unlimited plan after the price war) the choice is simple. Of course car companies won't have any more incentive to be creative or produce anything better and will live off nostalgia but that's Nintendo's current model and they're doing just fineeeeee
Not worth storing it for only 1k roi a year. Much better investment options for 25k than that
Henry Russell
holy fuck, just buy some land and grow timber at that rate. jesus
Christian Sullivan
>10 years away computers were available in the 40s too, took another 40 years for fags like you to own or use one. Laying the infrastructure for automated driving will take a good 50 years
Jeremiah White
I said it earlier, and I'll say it again: automated flying cars (drones) will become a thing way before automated legacy vehicles.
Owen Diaz
HAHAHAHA
Jaxson Watson
ur rarted.
Jackson Fisher
Why do you hate the 180s so much user?
Jackson Thompson
This is practically a supra of its day. Your mixing the iconic ae86 media / initial d mass promotion leading to its price. This will be what you can buy a supra or old ass 300zx
People will pay more for a first gen Pokémon booster box honestly
Carson Long
Do you know how much a 20 year old Miata is worth?
This is pretty much the same deal.
Learn something about both investing and cars before making tard-level threads
Brody Edwards
The miata is still in production. It's an invalid comparison.
who's the tard now?
Thomas Lopez
A 20 year old Miata is not a modern Miata you fucking retard
Either way they are both mass produced Japanese sportcars
Tyler Edwards
ok and m3's are still in production yet a clean one from the 80's is worth like 200 grand
Nolan Allen
>Yfw japan continues making slow sports cars that exceed the toyobaru in every way (as they are already doing, see: miata) and nobody wants to buy your shit except for kids who are offering $3k because they need money left over for the supercharger
Buy a BMW. BMW is saying fuck it to fun small cars while Japan is trying to keep the car hobby alive for everything under 2 liters (the upper limit of their lower displacement tax bracket), which makes sense because europe as a whole is saying fuck it to cars while Japan did that a long time ago and cars over there are a hobbyist thing except for the farmers driving mini-trucks.
They're just the perfect example of low-cost 90s shitbox sports cars that have been skidded to death by weed-vaping dropouts.
They're bordered by bugeye/blobeye WRXs on the nicer end of the spectrum and NA Lancers on the shittier end.
Cameron Hernandez
kek
The rarest version of the first generation M3 is the Evo 2. There are less than 500 and the market has been topped for those at $140k
All first generation M3s were rare and premium cars from the get go and here we are comparing it to a dime a dozen mass produced toyota sportscar.
I actually hope this retard buys one and holds it for 20 years then sells it for $8k with rusted internals and in no start condition in 20 years as a "zero mileage classic"
