Overall, German cultures are fairly different across the different areas, Bavaria is different from Pomerania, Austria is different from Brandenburg. To boil it down to the most important factors, ethnicity consists of sense of community and group identity, which you'll know isn't something you're born with, but rather something you develop. As an Austrian I can tell you that neither a sense of community nor a group identity exists between Austrians and germans, i.e. not the same ethnicity

i am using the common english use. When someone says "ethnicity" i immediately assume the definition i am using. that being Racially Identical, AND culturally similar (key word being similar). You require both to be ethnically something. Someone who is ethnically german is racially identical (white) and is similar in culture to other germans. Like Austrians. If someone does not share race with someone, theyre not ethnically similar, they are culturally similar. If someone does not share a similar culture to someone, they are racially similar. if neither, then they are not the same at all. Again, can i be ethnically african american if i live with african americans and identify with them?

Austrians are often described as being a mixture of german and italian in terms of behaviour, you know germans being stuck up and orderly and italians being chill people and chaotic. We're often times placed right in the middle of that, are we both ethnical germans and italians then?
